Also, don't know how likely it is, but am I the only one who would love to see Stephen Weiss in a Habs jersey? He's not big exactly but 6'0 instead of 5'6 sounds good.

I think Desharnais will be hard to move for any decent return. Not many will be willing to take on a 3.5 million dollar cap hit for a small one dimensional player who just had a bad season. Is it worth moving him now or better to wait? I mean his value probably won't get worse than what it is now.

A 45-55 point center who makes 3.5 million is a god damn bargain.

I don't understand where people get this idea that he's overpaid.

Look around the league at what 50 point centres get paid.... look at Tim Connolly, Olli Jokinen, Mikhail Grabovski, Matt Stajan, Ville Leino, and others all got as UFAs...

Tyler Bozak is looking for 6 million bucks.

3.5 million is not a bad contract.

Not a bad contract.

Just a player who completely vanished after he signed it.

Was a complete embarrassment in the playoffs.

Florida, Calgary and Winnipoeg all have a need for 2nd line center.

DD isn't going anywhere. They just signed the kid. Give him a chance. He blew the roof off in junior. His vision doesn't come around to often. Give him some solid line mates and watch what he can do.

Solid line mates? He had Gally and Pax most of the season, how is that not good linemates? I don't dislike DD, I love what he's done, but he's the worst of the short guys on montreal, if Gionta is a no touch and Gally is obviously, then DD has to be moved, if you are of the opinion that the habs are too small.

Here is a offseason change that doesn't involve player movement, how about MT have some faith in the kids and let them play. I look at other rookies in the league getting 17-19 mins per game and then you see Gally and Galch get like 9-13, give them time to make mistakes and learn from them.

Yea, they were also the most productive forwards in the playoffs, Bourque as well.

I said when they signed DD< that was MB first bad move and i'm sticking by it.

You are going no where (playoffs) with Pleks and DD as your top 2 centers.

You sign a kid to 4 years that means organization has faith in you. He was on pace for 50pts. There is no chance in hell he gets moved.

Therrien and gallant both had their stints at coaching at the junior level. They know better than anyone the kind of ice time these kids should be getting. 12 minutes a game is perfect for a rookie. You pay your dues in Montreal, then you get your ice time. That's how it works.

Replacing Desharnais with a forward who will not be so easily manhandled would improve the team. Points aside, Desharnais was just not an impactful guy this season. He looked like his critics have always suspected he would look.

That said, unless you're hoping to win the Cup next season, he probably should be conceived as a transitional C for this team, tiding us over until Galyenchuk is ready to assume his role down the middle. At that point, we'll have Pleks, Galy, and Eller; Desharnais will either become a winger or totally redundant on this team.

So within two years, he probably will no longer have his current place on the Habs. But until them, he represents a relatively cap-friendly body we can throw in there who has some degree of offensive talent.

No. As the thread title indicates, I don't believe that Paajaarvi is required...

I was questioning why he's even a thought. If we're doing a slash and burn rebuild our go to guy can't have a career high of 15 goals and struggle to crack the lineup on a lottery team.

That's what I'm thinking. I like desharnais, and actually thought the signing was alright at the time he signed it, but he needs to bring more since he's small and has no grit. Look at Bourque. 3.3 million, similar production and he brings a physical game. Lets just hope DD can bounce back

Bourque really showed up to play this year was very impressed with him. now looks like excellent trade (for a between periods trade) ^_^ they will give DD some more time. Maybe they should have sent him with Cole. Gio my boy time to go. We are going to have to look at trading Markov, and I really hate that idea, but he has lost 2 steps, All in all we have a great nucleus to build around but some more size would be good. They may resign Armstrong. Weber and Kaberle are obviously gone. We have 6 draft picks maybe we can trade a couple of 2's for another 1st rounder. That would be good. :habslogo:

A couple more big mean bodies is what we need. To punish opposing D and wreak havoc in front of the net. Another big physical D man to help emelin and we are good. 2 or 3 more guys who can drop the gloves and win gives help to prust and moen can fight in his class and let's our young talented guys put the puck in the net with no fear. I hate to say it but with the small and young talented players we have, a set up like the leafs have would help. Dress 2 goons and prust. No one steps out of line with us

Here is an idea. let's take the team that finished 2nd in the east and blow it up!! Brilliant idea!!! Maybe we can finish last in the east again next season!! Reading lots of stupid comments from people who are talking out of dismay at the early playoff picture and are not seeing the big picture. This isn't EA Sports. Go have a drink, maybe six, come back and post once you are sober and have really thought this through. Just ask yourselves what happens if we let 9 players walk as someone suggested and no free agents sign here. Where do we place next season then? Or worse yet if all we can sign are guys nobody else wants. We placed at the top of a league for a reason, we had a bad spell for a little over a month at the wrong time. Washington had theirs early. I bet they are glad now they didn't blow up the team. Get a grip, chill the $%^!@ out, smoke one if you need to. This team is not 9 players away from contention, and if you don't believe me ask yourself how you felt two months back.

Oh yeah, there is an idea, base or lineup on what the Leafs do!! More brilliance. They are also gone in 5. What the heck are you talking about?

The bottom line is that since the lockout and rule changes, the disparity between regular season officiating and playoff officiating has widened greatly. What works in the regular season does not translate to the playoffs. Saying the team is not too small is a bit silly. I don't think it needs to be blown up, but a massage is definitely in order. Ottawa was inside and cycling on us regularly. While our transition is exciting to watch, it does not work without guys who can get inside and get that rebound. Size was an issue this playoff. Size is why Therrien adapted a system which allowed many odd man chances and gave our goaltending fits. Changes are needed to compete in the real season. Having said that, I am very positive about this team's future. With the right additions I think we could be in for a very successful 5 years or so.

Torres, Clarkson, Cooke and Clowe are some interesting UFAs to look at.

Gionta imo needs to go, make room for the youngsters. He was a good captain, has heart, but isn't close to playing like he used to.

My priority would be Ryane Clowe but he will probably be too expensive. I would go for Clarkson and Torres. Our forwards would look something like this:

Pacioretty-Plekanec-Bourque

Gallagher-Eller-Galchenyuk

Moen-Desharnais-Prust

Clarkson-White-Torres

As for defense:

Subban-Markov

Tinordi-Gorges

Diaz-Bouillon

Once Emelin comes back, I think we should try and deal Bouillon and maybe trading Markov if Beaulieu is ready to come up to the big leagues.

In nets:

Price

Budaj

Price is still our #1 but I believe he needs to raise his game to a whole new level this year...

Coming soon

Tom Bozon

Danny Kristo

Sebastian Collberg

Darren Dietz

Charles Hudon

No Smurfs there.

We moved from worst to first. Keep the course and things are going to get better. Freak out like kids playing a video game and we are in for rebuild after rebuild.

Please draft Frederik Gauthier, Samuel Morin, Jordan Subban and Jacob De La Rose. Then I am more than happy with the results of the season!!! Also William Carrier may be a complete steal if available.

As for officiating, I say the league reviews every game and if officials blow too many calls they get a suspension and fine. Too many times and bye bye now. File for unemployment.

No smurfs maybe, but Kristo, Hudon an Collberg are all around 5'10, not big. Still love the prospects though.

I like Gauthier as you said, but I wonder if we could move up just enough to draft Anthony Mantha? He had a beast year in the Q.

We have better talent than the leafs. But when push came to shove we got our asses handed to us. There was no response to eller leaving on a stretcher. They got dusted in a line brawl. Our skilled rookies got bullied and we got beat badly when it mattered. Bottom line is the team is soft. Skilled and soft. Works in Europe. Not here

Markov has to be a PP specialist...he doesn't have the legs for a long season and playoffs playing 20 plus minutes.

The thing to do with DD is keep him as he might rebound and be okay in the regular season.... Then get a rental at the deadline who is a bigger, better center for the playoff rush, since I doubt we can trade him.

I would not give up on Gorges yet. Keep in mind that this was a weird year with no training camp and a lot of players didn't look great. Should Boston trade Lucic for a bag of pucks! (I would make that deal...won't happen).

I am okay with Budaj and Boo boo as they did their job and are transitional players. If the D prospects come along Boo boo becomes a seventh D. Next years Drewski.

Gionta produced more then any other completely useless player in the league. :) He isn't going anywhere.

Moen, Halpern, etc... All spare parts. Take a penny, give a penny... We will have some mix of them, or guys just like them some other team thinks is garbage.

I hope we draft a decent goalie... Kind of like Boston did with Subban... We need better prospects in goal for 5 years out.

We need a shrink for Price. Call him a goalie coach if you like, but fix him.

I still feel we need to draft another top three player...
