Trizzak
Wasn't Muller the mastermind behind a very successful PP? Or am I thinking of Carbo, back when he was an assistant? (I recall Muller getting rave reviews as an assistant with us, but I don't remember what the specific basis for those raves was). If Muller was a great PP guy, then we should snap him up posthaste. I think he was a great PK guy, but also a rah-rah/buddy kinda coach, which was a perfect yin to Jacques Martin's yang.
Machine of Loving Grace
I think he was a great PK guy, but also a rah-rah/buddy kinda coach, which was a perfect yin to Jacques Martin's yang. He's the good cop. That's always his job. He gets along with the players and tries to translate their message to the head coach. In Carolina, being everyone's friend was a detriment for him. Carolina had awful special teams when he was the head coach. He's not really a specialist of any kind, more of just a really good motivator. ehjay
Might just be the translator the Habs need then. Maybe he can put in normal words for the players what MT wants to do then I can see on tv what that is
hab29RETIRED
Hopefully he will learn French and can become a viable option to le genius.

dlbalr
There are no restrictions on the size of a coaching staff. I don't think Muller would take a specialist type of assistant job, I think he'd rather be either a lead assistant (or #2, someone on the bench) or head coach in the minors. Uh...I mean, sure, he'd take an assistant coaching position in Montreal. Happy to be wrong about this one.
Colin
Guy Lafleur has indicated a French speaking coach is not required. Only a guy who gets the best out of his players. Why does current management not see this truism? Fire Therrien, hire Cucumber and let's win some games.

Assistant/associate, it's still a non-head coaching position which is where I figured he was going for (I figured he was AHL-bound).

kickass528
So Kirk Muller with a healthy price is going to save MT ass great Edited June 12, 2016 by kickass528
DON
So Kirk Muller with a healthy price is going to save MT ass great Well I guess that if you are lucky, Price will get hurt in Sept, team will struggle and the PP will suck.

Yeah, we've come to a pretty pass when fans start to think that the whole objective is to get the coach fired, rather than win a lot of hockey games. habs rule
Well I am the guy that started this thread, and since we have added Kapitan K to the mix. We do not need to fire Le Genius, I will always call him Le Genius, cause he finally showed some balls and hired a good coach. Our PP will be a lot forking better, and the guys have someone to talk to and respect. I believe we can win the cup now. I am a happy camper. A healthy Price, a happy PK, what the fork, can things get better? Ask me again when we win the BIG CUP. 25 on the way.

I'm half-tempted to ask whether this post is written in sarcasm, habs rule, but I'll take it as sincere, and therefore an indication of how much faith the fan-base as a whole puts in Captain Kirk! Machine of Loving Grace
I don't have your guys high hopes until I see the team add a serious top six forward. I want all of Bergevin's excuses to be legitimate and see him add some scoring. If we come out of this summer with a bunch of bargain deals I'll probably write the season off. The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Nope dead serious. I'm sure Bergy will sign at least one UFA FW. I'm still inclined to wonder whether we'll see the One Big Signing (Okposo) or two 'middling' signings. Either way, we need to remember that the team went to the second round in '15 and was dominating the league for the first quarter of 2015-16 without that added forward help. It's not the season I'd write off if MB fails to hit for extra-bases in the off-season, it's the chance of this team going deep into the playoffs and becoming a bona-fide elite contender. (That assumes that Price stays healthy, natch. Everything depends on that).

Would Versteeg, Hudler, Vrbata or Perron add on suffice, or would you demand more a Backes, Lucic, Eriksson, Okposo quality? I want an Okposo quality free agent signing (or a Kessel quality trade). Versteeg/Hudler/Vrbata is just the kind of garbage bargain signing I want this team to avoid. We don't win a single thing if that's the best Bergevin can do after last season and seeing what adding Kessel did for Pittsburgh. https://twitter.com/DownGoesBrown/status/742184646641782784 @DownGoesBrown Martin Jones vs. Phil Kessel with the Stanley Cup on the line, but remember your team's GM says he can't make trades because it's too hard. Commandant
I wanted Phil As for Martin Jones, that was never a position we were addressing last year at this time... Jones left LA cause he was an RFA and he basically forced the Kings to move him. He wanted a starting gig and knew that if he refused to sign an RFA deal they would eventually move him to a team that would give him better money and a shot at starting. The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Well...is it fair, then, to say that Bergevin dropped the ball in a big way by NOT acquiring Kessel? He had a team with a glaring need for a scoring winger. One of the league's best scoring wingers comes on the market, and - poof, he does nothing. I don't agree with those who attack MB just because he's 'failed to make his mark' on the team, as though the point of GMing is to make change for the sake of your own ego. But to attack him because he's failed to go all-out to fix the team's biggest weakness, when the opportunity is realistically there - that seems reasonable to me.
