Bournival is far from gritty. He has speed which lets him finish a check once and a while.

Bournival only cracks the lineup if Prust/Moen both get hurt or Bourque gets benched.

I said this before and I'll say it again, Sekac gets the open winger spot on the 3rd line:

Pacioretty - Desharnais - Parenteau

Galchenyuk - Plekanec - Gallagher

Bourque - Eller - Sekac

Prust - Malhotra - Weise

Moen, Bournival

And there's no way the team carries 3 goalies, it's Budaj's job to lose. And if he loses it, they trade him. They also have MacDonald in Hamilton for depth. They shouldn't waste a body on a goaltender when the extra head count could be better served on defence:

Markov - Subban

Emelin - Gilbert

Weaver - Beaulieu

Tinordi

Price

Budaj

Who the heck knows whether will be Tokarski or Budaj?

The 'kid' is a winner at every level so far, but the 'old' guy is ready for and used to riding the bench most games.

It doesn't really matter to me who is the backup, unless Price gets hurt, then playoff chances would fade fast if it was Budaj in nets for an extended period of time. I like the fact that when Budaj has been in nets the last couple seasons, the Habs could play for the tie, and then he was great in a shootout, but in big games Budaj has sucked his whole career, and that's not going to change. Tokarski has won at every stage and in a lot of big games his whole career. I look at in "worst case scenario, Price injured, who gives us a chance to win? Tokarski wins that question hands down.

I say whoever loses the back up try outs, gets sent to the waiver wire....

The players have (unevenly) been broken into three teams and one of them is going to get killed if they have to actually play the other two...

Only two players are listed as injured coming into camp, Stefan Fournier and Dalton Thrower.

Joey Macdonald has to be the most forgotten signing by the Habs. He's obviously for Hamilton but still.

They clearly just wanted two teams and tossed the extras that will be let go eventually on Team C. They could have easily balanced it better.

Would have liked to see Bennett on Team A or Team B.

I really want to see Nygren do well. I have no idea why, but I just have gut feeling about him.

He's a big time PP guy. If he shows that he can play enough defence to be on the third pairing, the Habs could have a major shooter on both powerplays. That's a big reason to root for him.

If Nygren somehow cracks the squad do you think a trade happens with one of the young D men

Probably not, at least in the short-term. All of Beaulieu, Tinordi, Pateryn, and Nygren are waiver exempt so whichever ones don't make it can be sent down. Even if Nygren were to make the team, they'd still be evaluating him for a little while so they would be wise to hold on to their young depth until he proves that he is (or isn't) a legitimate NHL'er.

Ghetto - Plekanec - Sekac for Team White. Looks like they see Sekac as a right winger right now.

They don't seem to want to use Bourque on the right side despite it being his preferred one so they may as well see if Sekac can play there.

Bouillon scores...that might make some people nervous...

Haha it shouldn't. His play has been average. Bergevin himself reminded media he scored two goals in camp when he was a youngster. Meant nothing.

Nygren is a suicide passer like Diaz was. Not good.

Pateryn has been one of the best blueliners.

Drayson Bowman has been... impressive actually. Knew nothing about the kid.

Czech chemistry found between plek and Sekac.

Thomas had three consecutive shifts where he looked like an NHL all-star.

Sekac looked great.

Tinordi played like Montreal is actually Dr. Frankenstein and realized their Cullimore and O'Byrne monsters didn't work because they didn't have a brain so they gave Tinordi one. Big, strong, fluid, smart.

Parenteau looked good with DD and Patches. Liked how Patches and Parenteau would switch positions if on the offensive zone right side.

Scherbak looked like he could be ready for the NHL next year. If we were a crappier team he'd be playing top six for us at 18. Made Bournival look like an AHLer trying to keep up with him on the line.

McCarron is a Pokémon. He has two special moves: Dig (In Corners) and Screen (The Net). He does those two things quite possibly better than anyone on the team. Everything else he does leaves to be desired.

Also Sing. He's mellifluous.

Bouillon offered a two way deal and turned it down. Said he refused to play in the AHL because he can still play in the NHL. Don't be surprised to hear about him showing up in a different city soon.

Michel Therrien says Magnus Nygren, according to the #Habs, will play either in Montreal or Hamilton. Returning to Sweden not an option.

Good post. High hopes for Sherbak? Were you watching scrimmage?

No real shocker there. He doesn't have a valid contract in the SHL to go back to this year; he can't sign one without Montreal's approval so he doesn't have the leverage this time.
