dlbalr
For those who wanted to see the Habs get more involved with the 'fancy stats', apparently they've hired a new 'data guy' according to TSN's Travis Yost. No word on who though. Somehow I suspect it won't get the attention that other stat hires got last year. https://twitter.com/travisyost/status/617106496699154432
DON
Cant argue against better info can you? Just evolution of the sport. LIke goons who are almost all gone and many said will always need them and important part of game. But are the Parros-John Scott's gonna be missed? Not one bit! newf
Sounds like the guy may be, himself, Travis Yost.

dlbalr
So the hire is a part-time consultant, replacing the old part-time consultant. Knowing this, it's probably not a well-known name.
DON
WHAT IS HIS NAME! should be a contest to find that out?
DON
MATT PFEFFER is the name. supposedly not full time Hab employee.
dlbalr
Pfeffer apparently worked for San Jose and Hockey Canada last year and also has worked for the OHL's Ottawa 67's. He also wrote for Hockey Prospectus. And, he's just 21 years old. Here's his writing archive: http://www.hockeyprospectus.com/author/mpfeffer/
DON
Now he works for a hockey (sports) 'biostatistical' consultant and will primarily crunch habs numbers, or something like that is it?
dlbalr
Now he works for a hockey (sports) 'biostatistical' consultant and will primarily crunch habs numbers, or something like that is it? Since it's a consultant job, it'll probably be flexible. He may do some stuff for internal evaluation (although I believe they've said in the past that they only use the advanced analytics for players not in the organization) or they may want his input on potential acquisitions or something like that.
