Habs @ Kings 10:30 PM EST

Recommended Posts

Edmonton wants to shed the center salary to add it into the defense, they have made that obvious and every insider of worth like Dreger, LeBrun and company all agree RNH or Eberle only leave for a D-man of consequence with term and ability. With that said we are off the table because we don't have what they are looking for.

I still believe we are where we are because we lost one of the best hockey players in the world for the majority of the season, who happens to play in the most important position in the game. Does Washington lead the league, and have the kind of offense they have if Ovechkin missed all but 3 weeks this year? Where is Chicago if Kane plays 15 games only this year? How About Dallas, if Benn or Seguin go down 90% of this season, are they in the position they are in? And the bottom line to this point is also none of those players are as important to their teams as Price is to ours, and none play a position as important to Hockey as Price does.

So we can all yell at Bergevin, or make a scapegoat of whoever we feel like, but at the end of the day this team was gangbusters when it was healthy, not just for a week but 2 freakin months. That happened while Bergevin was still upstairs and while half of these guys were still on the team. Panic and Blame all you want guys, but if you take a very good team's very good player's away, they just simply aren't very good anymore.

Kane went down last year and Chicago went on to win a cup so...

You shouldn't have a catastrophic season because one guy goes down. There's clearly some major underlying issues with this team and they were brought to the surface this year.

Underlying? Wasn't it right there for all to see?

Habs haven't been able to consistently put a puck in net for several years, well below average team scoring/PP and have had zero All-star forwards for couple years now.

So take one big guess this teams biggest weakness, is no surprise and isn't a new issue, as has been 30 years since Naslund was last top ten NHL scorer Habs have had.

RNH for Plek is not going to solve a damn thing in my opinion. RNH has been in the league for a while now and his numbers just don't scream first line Centre. I wouldn't do that deal by itself. I would do it, but more for long term knowing that Plek is going to start slowing down due to age. That move doesn't fill any holes short term. They need to remove overpaid third liners and number 5 defense and add legitimate top 6.

Removing a top 6 and replacing him with a top 6 with equal numbers but less defensive ability will not help the team short term.

Well who actually will be available as a UFA to upgrade scoring & centre this July? Backes & Stamkos seem like it.

So will need to trade for it most likely.

Nugent-Hopkins or someone like that.

And at least can add Emelin to a deal come July and shipping him to Edmonton becomes a possibility.

And this is why figuring out if chunky can be a c is so key.

If he is it opens up offseason options as there are plenty of wingers.

lets not forget that Chicago for 70% of the season was looking like it was going to miss the playoffs, they came on strong at the end and never looked back. And people need to stop saying 'Just because one guy goes down.." Its not just one guy, its not just one guy AT ALL, its THE GUY. we are built around HIM, he is the best in the league at his position which also happens to be the most important position in the sport. It is like saying the Devils could have had the success they had if Brodeur was injured for nearly a whole season. In our last cup win, we were a middle of the pack team with the best goalie in the game at the time, we won the whole damn thing in the end, does anyone think the 93 Canadiens are a deep playoff team or even a playoff team if Roy plays 14 games that year? Jesus guys..

When you are built around a goalie, and he goes down, its catastrophic, when he makes you a great team and masks your issues and then goes down it makes you look silly. But he is part of the team, he won't miss 90% of the season all the time, we wouldn't even be talking about whether Bergevin should have done this or the other right now we would be talking about how many rounds this team goes through. The team is a work in progress, but Price puts it way ahead of the curve, and I think this season will have Bergevin focus even more closely on the offense during the off season. Perhaps a guy like Price makes you a little too passive when trying to address issues because he makes you look so close to contention, in the end we suffer through this year and we will benefit from it in the ones to come

Let's not forget shipping out Semin and then Kassian after Gallagher went down, leaving a gaping hole on RW. That is what I fault management for. MB acknowledges there is a need on the wing so he gets these guys, and then gets rid of them, leaving the same need as before the season started. Other than that I don't mind holding steady during the sinking ship. Let's keep in mind that the odds that this team would lose this many games without Price is incredible. I think at one point we were like 99% to make the playoffs after 25 games.
