My first 2 kids have adopted the Habs as they should have. It did require me to move to Ohio from Toronto to ensure this - but so worth it.

My failing is my 3rd child who has become a Ducks fan.

For shame. I know.

I was playing for a team that wore Ducks jerseys and found one that would fit him as a 1 year old. For cryin out loud he never forgot the d*mn jersey and has had a place in his heart for them ever since. I rue the day I let my 1yr old look cute in that jersey.

Where is Shakespeare when you need him. Tragedy.. deep tragedy mitigated by the two rightly heroic paradigms of all that is virtuous and noble in mankind. I will pray for the lost one... I must stop.. the tears flow..:( ...

TH... there is sooo much more deeper truth to your pun ...and i am sure you saw that as well; that she is a prisoner (very attached) to her cell...

true story: when her friends come over for a "get together" they all (5 or 6 of them) have their heads down on their individual phones..quietly texting ...its the strangest thing for me to witness...

No question. I don't mind that, though, so much as I mind the fact that my kid will stay glued to her smartphone screen from dawn to dusk if I were to permit it.

I know.. its a little scary alright.. What scares me in the west generally these days is that lots of people are incapable of making sustained arguments or paragraphs of coherent thought... that really scares me.. and universities are increasingly places where one goes go get disaffected and disconnected. .. Aristotle where are you...

This will disappoint, but I didn't think of the deeper prisoner motif you so adroitly unearthed... Wish I were that smurt. ^_^

There used to be two four places. The home .. and the other than home,,, , the park.. and school. The other than home is now in the home and the out there is in here. What a parenting challenge.

Well, we should remember that kids USED to be glued to TV sets watching inane garbage for several hours a day...it's not clear that surfing Instagram (or whatever) is any worse necessarily, since it's much more interactive and creative. The exception is of course the easy access to porn. *shudder*

I was just saying that to my wife. I stared at screens for a good Chunk of my youth. It was just a 19" RCA or an arcade game, instead of a 7" Samsung.

Too true.. I'm frankly a little terrified at how incredibly stupid modern man is.. and the mass media are primary conduits.

Goebbels wrote: (after Hitler made the big point)

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State." The most effective Nazi use of the Big Lie was against the Jews.

Modern man scares the hell out of me.. as he should...

Just a few cheery diversionary thoughts.. :D

Good example. I guess I have to see it as overall, a really good thing.. but it sure requires some moderating influences. Parents are so vital.. now there's a tautology.. !!
