Once we lost Radulov, the net result became one whereby we traded our only elite prospect in order to not get too much worse. The Drouin trade did not make the team better relative to last season; it merely prevented the team from falling back to a catastrophically bad level at FW. Given that the team needed to IMPROVE, the incompetence speaks for itself. Letting Markov go for no apparent reason was just the icing on the cake of managerial ineptitude. Bergevin is the king of lateral moves, but there's a basic problem with making lateral moves when you're not good enough in the first place; and when your prospect pool is thin, the net result is slow corrosion - which is arguably just what we've seen over the past three seasons. Have you seen or read anywhere that Radulov was even contemplating returning to Montreal? Or just a wild assumption that he would resign and base rest of whine on that assumption. I also got no problem not resigning the old timer...BUT, he sure f'ed up royally by not having any plan B in place 'if' he walked or signed elsewhere. (21pts in KHL after the hot start he had is pretty weak in a weaker league and Markov could be near end of playing days.)
Toronthab
I get the feeling we're a collection more than team. We had been a team.
