The need for an attitude change

Bergevin has made one trade and cleaned up the developmental coaching staff.  How is that moving in the opposite direction?

The reference was to fixing the roster.

Galchenyuk > Domi.

He did this in 15-16 and that's why I lost faith in him.

As a GM it is your job to make your team as great as possible. If you are losing, making a trade is a great way to tell your locker that management cares and is trying to help.

Bergevin let two veterans in Markov and Radulov go while from the two he brought in, Streit didn't make it to the season and Hemsky was a non entity. And then he tells the club that no help is coming. He handicapped them then told them it is their fault.

This more than any trade or signing or press conference is why he is one of the worst GMs in the league. Twice now when the team needed him, when he needed to do his job because the club HE BUILT was sinking, he let them sink. He did nothing to help. He blamed them. Inexcusable.

Or there was no trade available that would help the team.  None of the other 30 teams are gonna throw you a bone and help you out because you're an Original Six team.  When teams know you're not dealing on equal footing, and they have you over a barrel, they're not going to just give you what you need.  There's a lack of depth in the system already, so that means that you're dealing from the roster.  The only players that are going to bring in any decent return are the very same guys you don't want to trade.  McCarron isn't getting you a top-two centre.  Scherbak isn't getting you a top-two centre.  So you're stuck with what you have, and you'll just have to play through it.

Letting Radulov go was a huge mistake, but then when he decided to come back from the KHL, there weren't a whole lot of offers on the table for his services.  He should have been extended halfway through 16-17.  Hemsky was trying to recreate the Radulov signing, and Streit was just grasping at a very short straw.  He wears those on his own.

On the plus side of the ledger, Mete was a pleasant surprise and Noah Juulsen stepped up when given the opportunity.  If their development continues, then maybe there's some hope.

Reimer was available. They went for Scrivens instead. Blow that tied hands bull up someone else's tubes. Lack of depth is Bergevin's fault. Every other team is this league can make trades at any time except apparently Montreal. If you can't do your job and make the team better? Quit. And again, BERGEVIN is the one who claimed it was up to the team. He chose not to make a move. He chose to twice abandon them during a slump.

Radulov wanted a two year deal. Bergevin insisted on one year. This is well documented here. Not gonna hunt the articles again.

Bergevin is no victim of bad luck. He is the architect of his own failure.

What do you mean he didn’t get depth.  He probably traded for the most 6/7/8 dmen and 4th/5th liners in the league. Almost good enough for an AHL team.

I'm actually shocked that we weren’t the ones who picked up Brooks Orpik who is the prototypical MB dman.

And how much of it is actually that our management team needs an attitude change ?

I hear is was Bervgevin's additude problem with Markov and Radulov and Subban that was a problem. And now we've got a Domi on our team?

The habs are a tavares and statnsy signing, and a Pacs trade for a good LD away from being a playoff contender

It seems to me that the CH's attitude this year is definitively better than last season. The changes made are positive and the players that are now part of the roster and the AHL/depth chart are going about business in a more positive way.

"Five years ago, we had a core group of players that was a very promising young group of players that we decided to build around. And we did well but just not well enough. So this summer we decided to make some adjustments to try to get to the next level and so far it’s been a good start.” [https://montrealgazette.com/sports/hockey/nhl/montreal-canadiens/geoff-molson-says-time-had-come-to-change-the-canadiens-philosophy]

I believe that the team "hearth transplant" in now complete and that this new core group will get better and better as the prospects graduate to the NHL and there is a good infusion of talent.
