I think this is a big enough deal for Habs' prospects that it merits its own thread.

Yeah, we've had this as a thread in the past.  I usually waited until closer to the tournament to get it going (we don't even know yet if Fonstad's in) but it's definitely worth its own thread.  I'll have a StatTracker on the site as well.

Fonstad is in.

So Hab Fans have someone to watch on all 4 teams...if consider Halifax's Lavoie as a key target in the draft at 15.

Puck77 is doing team-by-team previews (http://puck77.com); here are excerpts from the first two.

Quote

Joel Teasdale: Postseason Monster

The biggest move the Huskies made at the trade deadline was the acquisition of Joel Teasdale from Blainville-Boisbriand. The move paid dividends as Teasdale made an immediate impact as the Montreal prospect scored 42 points in his 29 games with Rouyn-Noranda. The playoffs proved that Teasdale could be a big-game player as well. The Lavaltrie, QC-native led the QMJHL in playoff scoring with 34 points. After scoring nine points in the semifinals against Rimouski, Teasdale scored eight points against Halifax. The biggest part of Teasdale’s game is consistency. While his hands and quick release make him an incredible talent, it is his play in the big moments in these playoffs that have made him a formidable presence for the Huskies.

Suzuki’s Swan Song

Nick Suzuki has been arguably the biggest trade deadline acquisition in the entire CHL. A first-round pick that is primed to play for the Montreal Canadiens next season, Suzuki scored 45 points in the first 30 games of the season with Owen Sound. After being traded to the Storm, the London native stayed consistent, scoring 49 points in the final 29 games of the regular season. The playoffs saw the best of Suzuki. In 24 games this postseason, he was only held off the score sheet three times, twice in the Storm’s second round series against his hometown London Knights. That series against the Knights was where Suzuki cemented his junior legacy, scoring 13 points against the number one seed in the Western Conference. While Suzuki was consistent in scratching his name on the score sheet, he was also as consistent in putting up multiple points night-in and night-out, as he amassed 12 multi-point games for Guelph en route to the OHL Championship.

Fonstad did not get a mention for the Prince Albert Raiders.

And finally Halifax Mooseheads:

Lavoie est L’Homme

Every good junior team has at least one player that plays outstanding in crunch time. That player is the team’s go-to guy when they need a big play, and can always be counted on to put up exceptional performances night-in and night-out. The Mooseheads have had that player in these playoffs with Raphael Lavoie. Lavoie has been dynamite this postseason. Despite only scoring 73 points during the regular season, the potential first or second round pick has been at the head of the Halifax offence during their run to the President’s Cup Finals. He finished second in the entire QMJHL in playoff scoring with 32 points in 23 games. His 20 goals were the most in the playoffs, including scoring six goals in the four game sweep of Moncton back in round two. His confidence has been growing through every passing series, and while he has yet to play on such a big stage as the Memorial Cup, Lavoie seems poised to step up once again when put in the spotlight.

Halifax leading Prince Albert 2-1 halfway through the second. Fonstad and Lavoie have an assist each.

Oh yes, it's live on Sportsnet if you prefer this to the NHL playoffs. :P

All done for tonight, 4-1 Halifax. An impressive game by the Moose, who sneaked into the tournament as the home team (although they did make the QMJHL finals).

Lavoie looked like a man against boys in this one.

He had nice assist on 1st goal and yes he is tall with long reach, so stands out.

I think they said he has upped his game and is playing better than reg season, more intense or consistent.

Seems to like to set up in same area, top left circle as many RH snipers do for the one-timer.

Many rankings have him in Habs range for sure, but given size and playoff scoring i wonder if likely gone by 15th pick?

A big french kid would make the local HabFans a bit more excited and bit more size up front probably wouldnt hurt.

3-1 for Guelph over Royun-Noranda at the end of the first period. The shots are only 9-6 for the Storm but they have controlled the play for much of the period. And Toropchenko scored a natural hat trick, three goals in the span of 7:23.

Some nice plays by Suzuki but nothing on the scoresheet yet.

4-2 final for Halifax. Lavoie with a nice SH goal, Suzuki had to settle for the single assist in spite of ten shots on goal.

That Halifax goalie is huge.
