No question that it depends a lot on the return. Agree on that.

Agree that Price's contract is a big impediment. I think so much of goaltending is confidence and Price's confidence has taken a hit playing behind a mediocre defence. I think in the right situation Price could do what Patrick Roy did in Colorado when he went there.

Roy went to Colorado a year out of winning the Conn Smythe and winning 10 x OT games and the Stanley Cup. Hardly the same as Carey’s current situation. Again, Price has put together a string of 3 /4 games of good goaltending and we can only hope it continues. If he finds his old form then for sure he could be in play. But this 1 game on and 2 games off will never net us anything !

The trade was in December 2015... 2.5 years from winning the cup and Conn Smythe in June 1993

93-94: The year after winning the cup the Habs lost in 7 to the Bruins in the first round, in the series where Roy missed time due to appendicitis, came back to win game 6, but lost game 7

94-95... The next year was a half season lockout, and then missing the playoffs in the 48 game season.

The next season they started off 0-5, demers got fired... tremblay came in, and in early december Detroit happened and Roy was gone.

Ok so 2 seasons out... forgot about the lockout shortened season. The point is they were a top 10 team post stanley cup, key word being post stanley cup champs.  Hardly the same as the current 3 years of missed playoffs and below avg goaltending.

I'm sure we can all agree on that!

I think we have to start thinking that maybe we need to get rid of Price and not expect anything valuable in return.

That 10.5M/year is making him look a bit Gomezesque.

Weber on the other hand should fetch a nice return.

Sign Halak off season and let him and Primeau/Lindgren share time in net. 😜

A pet peeve I have in these discussions is the assumption that Price and Weber will automatically decline so bad in the upcoming years to the point where they can't help a championship team.

A total of five Latvian-born goaltenders have played in the NHL.  Two of them have made the last two starts for Columbus in Elvis Merzlikins and Matiss Kivlenieks.

(The others are Arturs Irbe, Peter Skudra, and Kristers Gudlevskis.)

Looks like Weber hasn't lost anything off his shot. But man when did the skills competition get so boring🤔

Don't know why they don't make the all star game an outdoor event.

If you ask me - and no one ever does 😄 - the All Star format should be like this:

1. Skills competition gets all the big names together so the sponsors can feel important and 10-year-olds can get their jollies watching Weber blast and Barzal race

2. The game itself is the year's only "Outdoor Classic." It's a regular-season game between two actual teams, with something on the line. The All Stars attend the game, do media hits, etc..

Don't call it the All-Star Game. Call it the NHL All-Star Celebration. This way we get an actual game that people care about out of the event, while also seeing all the league's big names doing stuff.

How fun would it be to have an all star game in LA outdoors and players on Rollerblades.  Or an all star game outdoors in the winter time. You want to sell the game and the top stars in it, that would be a start.

You could even include the 3-on-3 mini-tournament we had (and the women's game) but having the Outdoor Classic as the culmination of the activities is a great idea.

If you ask me the all-star game should go something like this.

Years 1 through 3 the game is cancelled.

Year 4... the league takes a two week break and all the all-stars go to some foreign country to play with the rest of the all-stars who are citizens of the same country.  They have a tournament and at the end the top 3 teams get medals of gold, silver, and bronze.  The US team trashes their hotel rooms and then everyone comes back to the NHL to finish the season.

woah, Woah, WOAH!...

That is making waaayyy too much sense, and thus, be impossible for them to execute, because they prefer making the decisions that don't make sense when it comes to these matters.

One thing I'd change for sure :  You miss the ASG and get suspended (like Ovy),  your suspension is applied on your first HOME game.  People pay tickets to see other teams' best players like once or twice a year.  Make them miss a home game.

Just for comparison; Canucks 17-8 at home

Habs 10-16

WHY, are they so much worse at home this year, when last year were 25-16 at home, already equalling last year home losses?

Nearly ten years after the Habs drafted him, Jarred Tinordi has his first NHL goal.

He has more goals in the NHL than the AHL this year.
