(I've seen speculation Mete will be out for a bit.) It could also just be as simple as loaning him back down to get him AHL playoff eligible and then recalling him on an emergency basis at 3:01. That would make sense. Would having him at the AHL make a difference if trading him. Allowing other team to burry his contract in the AHL too? Allowing other team to burry his contract in the AHL too? He's been there all year save for the last few days so him being back there doesn't really mean much. Renaud Lavoie is saying it's a paper transaction for eligibility purposes and that he'll be recalled after the deadline.

Would be nice to do the same for Suzuki.

Right. It would be a big impact for the Rocket, assuming they are able to claw their way into the playoffs.

Habs don't seem to do this with players who have been in the NHL all season. Also I think there is a good chance Suzuki gets an invite to play for Team Canada at the World Championships. Hockey Canada ties in the past, and they always like to take a few kids with the team. Probably a better experience for him than the AHL Playoffs.
tomh009
Apparently discussions in Trois-Rivieres are progressing well, with the likeliest scenario being UQTR and an ECHL team sharing the use of the Colisée. https://www.lenouvelliste.ca/sports/steve-turcotte/le-plan-a-la-cohabitation-6d53d8654ef1da2983b15fe5222d4dda
dlbalr
The Habs papered Ouellet to Laval yesterday and recalled him. As he was on IR at the deadline, that was legal and makes him eligible to return (though by then, he may need waivers to go down) later in the season. He becomes regular recall #2. In doing so, emergency conditions no longer apply which means the Habs were forced to convert Alzner's recall to a regular one or send him to the Rocket. They chose the former and thus, he is now regular recall #3. They only have one left this season. (On the other hand, with carrying the minimum number of forwards, any injury would result in an emergency recall anyway).

dlbalr
A random tidbit - Kinkaid joins former Hab goalie Mike Condon as the interim goalie tandem for Carolina's farm team as Tampa loaned him out earlier this week.

I have a hard time envisioning this duo backstopping a playoff run for the Checkers. 😬

Evans was regular recall #1. 13.12 (m)(ii) of the CBA notes that emergency conditions exist for illness or injury only. The Habs went below the 12 forwards because of a trade, not illness/injury so it's not actually an emergency situation. (It's a self-inflicted situation so they don't get to benefit by having basically a free emergency roster spot to shuttle players in and out of down the stretch without touching the four recalls.) Hudon's recall was because of Drouin's injury so his qualifies as emergency status but not Evans.
dlbalr
Curious timing considering Fleury's now hurt and they're only carrying six healthy d-men. Here's hoping this means that Juulsen could soon be ready to return and/or that Fleury's injury isn't serious. (McEneny could be one coming back too.) dlbalr
The ECHL has cancelled their season. Laval has a couple of guys left down there in Connor LaCouvee and Morgan Adams-Moisan that could come if the AHL schedule resumes.

With the many players under contract in Laval at the end of the season, it would be a pity to lose some of them for lack of an ECHL team. dlbalr
It's not like they have one now (and the ship has basically sailed on one for next season anyway, even if this does go through). They have a few guys on two-way AHL deals (Lamarche, Culkin, and Adams-Moisan) but they're hardly irreplaceable. The latter two leaving would be ideal, to be honest. dlbalr
The AHL commissioner mentioned today that he doesn't see how they could get their playoffs in. That's not a big shocker considering they don't have the TV deals that the NHL does to fall back on. That would pave the way to lift the recall restrictions for any possible NHL stretch run. Without the TV deals, you lose money by playing games without fans. It makes no sense for the AHL to finish the season.

Commandant
He signed with the Rocket on an AHL deal, just to be clear. This is important as he doesn't take up a contract spot on the 50 man. He will have to earn an NHL contract with his AHL play.

dlbalr
One-year extension for Yannick Veilleux, a well-deserved deal.
