Scouting Report: Every year some unforeseen prospect jumps up out of the woodwork, grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go, like Juraj Mikus. Here at ISS we believe Mikus is one of the more skilled and talented forwards available in the draft, and as a result, he has risen to 32nd in our rankings. His game-breaking speed, balance, net drive, shot selection, and versatility leave all sorts of doors open for him. He could turn into a dynamic first-line scoring forward, or a two-way second-line forward if he works on his defensive-zone coverage. He adapted extremely well to playing in the Slovak Extraleague. He started the season alternating between Skalica’s first and junior team. With the first team he mostly played on third or fourth line. In November, shortly after a coaching change, Mikus took advantage of the increased ice-time to become a regular player.

NHL Potential: Huge potential and upside – lots to work with for a NHL team. Style compares to: Milan Hejduk.

Seems like a good pick.

But I'm still wondering what happened with Latendresse. What did the Habs give up?

They gave up their 2nd & 3rd rounder to go up in the seconde roound and grab him ...

For a bit on info on Mikus, check this site: It's nearer the bottom of the page. It looks rather encouraging.

..to move up 11 spots to draft Latendresse. If it was anyone else, I would have said it was too steep a price, but Latendresse is a better prospect than Alexandre Picard who went 8th overall last year.

Oh well, I think Timmins is going with the "drafting the best available player" theory because if this wasn't the case than how would you explain Price and a bunch of other non-defensive players they get.

Like Lou Lamoriello says, they draft the best player available and its his job as a GM to get the best players to fill up the gaps in the team.

WTF?!?!

A goaltender?! We have Heino-Lindberg in the system and Jose Theodore in net. We have Huet as a backup and Yann Danis ready for this year. And the pick another goalie?!?!

Latendresse was a good pick but why didn't they pick Ryders younger brother?

And Brule was still available at fifth!

I just don't get it.

Aubin is the same age, the same size, and put up similar numbers with a similar team as Pouliot. Thank God they didn't get a shot at Ben the Chicken, if they really were interested in him.:/)

Theodore is the only legit #1 goalie in the system, and he is questionable as well. Price was a great pick at #5. They also managed to get a couple of Francophone's with size and character. That is not easy to do.

Do you guys think Carey Price was drafted in order to make a deal with another team since Johnson and Pouliot allready had been taken?

There's got to be a tought behind that draft. We lack defenceman and are solid in net. Hey, we even have a former MVP between the pipes!

*Edit*

Will Gainey trade Theodore to the Bolts for LeCavalier?

Beckham's last two sentences could be taken in a variety of ways.

I laughed, thinking of the ways one could receive the comments "They also managed to get a couple of Francophone's with size and character. That is not easy to do."

:ghg::ghg::ghg::ghg::ghg::ghg:
