Kinkaid on waivers

Mete? Really? You do realise how young he is and how far along he is in his development at such a young age? This is not a vid game. You would regret that in 2 years.

We were not contenders in September. Had a great start. Having a bad slump. Hopefully they get hot again soon before the idiot fans railroad the coach that they felt should get the Jack Adams last year and up until 8 games ago.

MB is not the problem in Montreal, nor is CJ. Problem is the presse.

PK Subban was traded, and Mete just doesn't score. Various Stanley cup winning Ds have been traded through the years. We need an upgrade on Mete, someone who skates as well but that can play 25-27 minutes and replace a Weber or Petry is they get hurt.

I love Mete, but he is a very good trading chip that packaged with a pick and a prospect will bring a top pair LD

Man, common, look at the trade chips we have! there are only a handful of players we can trade away to get the LD we need. When we get a top LD Mete will unfortunately be pushed down the lineup, might as well get an upgrade on him

Mete currently has more points then the beloved PK Subban.

We dont need to replace Mete, we need to add to Mete. If we move Mete in a deal for a LD we are just back to square 1 and moving sideways... My goodness, Mete gets zero love or respect. Guy just turned 21 in the summer and has already got close to 150 games under his belt. On top of that id guess 75% of those games he was matched against the leagues best lines on our top pair... if he was 6’1” could you imagine the love then... fickle fans

I see a left handed Brian Rafalski in the making with this guy personally.

ok then: what assets do we trade to get the top LD the CH needs. Let's not throuw names of whom we want but the type of player we need. What is the price (names) to pay to get the elite LD we need to make this team a lock for a playoff spot for the next 4-5 years

Brian Rafalski and Victor Mete couldn’t have taken a more different path to the NHL. Rafalski went undrafted, played in Europe in his early 20s and didn’t play in the NHL until he was 26 or 27.

In his first NHL season, he came in and produced 5 goals and 37 points. Many people attributed the fact that he was already ready to produce as a result of him developing and gaining confidence in Europe.

Mete is the complete opposite.

He will be good, that’s for sure. But if he is indeed anything like Brian Rafalski, it will take him another 5-6 years to show it.

I understand it’s a comparison made as a result of their size, speed, and puck handling skills but the comparison is a shot in the dark.

None of that has much to do with the topic though. Personally I like Mete and would rather trade Danault over him, but he should be far from untouchable. All that being said, I don’t see Mete being moved for a few more years, if at all.

Who freakin cares about what path they took.

The only difference is one had to work his way up undrafted (similar to St.Louis) because of the rock n sock em era where small players and more particular small defenceman were thought to have no chance in the 90's and 2000's.

The world has changed, hockey has changed and the Mete and Ellis of this world actually get oppurtunity now. There was probably countless undersized fantastic defenders who didnt even get a sniff over 20 years from '90-2010.

The point is they have a very similar style to there game although rafalski was a little chippier and I think Mete is a little faster. That I believe has to do with the fact that Brian was 26 and a man when he started... Mete still has peach fuzz on his face and will get alot stronger/ tougher in the next 2/4 years.

Anyways, I'm not sure why you believe it would take Mete 5/6 more years (age 27) to match Rafalski. If anything his development has been accelerated.

For the record , it would be a grand mistake to move Danault at this juncture.

Prospects and picks and CAP space is our strength/ leverage. Not our current best C.

Closing one hole and openong another is not the answer.

If we are going to trade to get better now it's to Add to the current line up not add and subtract. 1-1=0

All I was saying is that Mete and Rafalski are bad comparisons based on nothing. I also take your perspective on prospects with a grain of salt because you often hype our young players up more than they should be.

The mere fact that you compare Mete and Ellis is more proof. Ellis was always better than Mete. Ellis came into the league at a young age with an already clearly defined role of power play specialist. Mete didn’t come into the league because he would be the perfect partner for Weber. One was thrust into a role, the other was placed into a role. Nothing against Mete. At this juncture, he deserves to be on the team.

If someone is willing to give up a top LD it will likely be because they have depth at LD and players ready to step up. So I think most likely our trade chips (for a top LD) would not be lesser LD players, but either players in other positions (where the other team has a need), or picks/prospects further away.

Comparing Mete to Rafalski is out of left field, is useless. Kind of like throwing Ryan Ellis into the conversation out of nowhere as well.  Ryan Ellis has a ton more grit and far better shot than Mete ever will btw.

Mete survived on the top pairing, he did not thrive. The team obviously hasn't been successful with him in top 4.   We've now seen how much of an anchor he was to Weber who is a more dominant force now that he doesn't have to babysit Mete.

Currently Mete is not top 4 quality and is too small to play on a third pairing, the pairing that sees a lot of dump-ins, hard forechecking from other teams bottom 6.   He cannot clear the front of the net, has to be at his best to win basic puck battles, and doesn't drive offense.  Since paired with Petry, Mete has further been exposed as a weak link.

Was he rushed into a role, yes.  Do I blame him, no.  But that doesn't mean he gets a free pass.

He wouldn't even crack the roster on most competitive teams, the roster construction (or lack thereof) put him in a spot where he was thrust into a role far too prematurely.  This may actually stifle his development as he is being forced to adapt before he mentally, physically matures which can result in players not realizing their full potential.  These types of payers often end up sticking with tactics/tricks that work to reach the minimum acceptable level to keep their spot because the margin for error is non-existent; whereas in a developmental league any failed attempt would be taken with a grain of salt and seen as a young player finding their way.    I don't think Mete will ever become a true top 4 dman, I think whatever chance there was at that has been squandered by forcing him into a role he wasn't ready for.  I blame that on management.

I realized this in the summer when I'd still hoped we'd land a top pairing d.  I saw Chiarot on 2nd pairing with Petry and then you have to consider whether Mete fits on the third pairing, which I do not believe works for reasons mentioned above.  When looking at it that way, I see him as expendable on the NHL roster (ideally in Laval to develop and hopefully grow into a savvy play maker), but I would not be upset to see him go, if it's part of a package that brings back a true top 4 left d.

Side note, I hope Primeau plays so well that Price's starts are no longer guaranteed, I believe Price needs to be challenged by an up and coming number one, and Price will rise up when that happens.   Nobody should be guaranteed ice time, starts when a team has such a terrible track record over past x amount of years.  Not just current slump, they've been consistently inconsistent for years.

Exactly...

I'd add that our leverage is not key roster players but prospects, picks and CAP space!

please name the prospects I've hyped so I can see where you coming from there?

The mere fact that you compare Mete and Ellis is more proof. Ellis was always better than Mete. Ellis came into the league as a 21yr old playing only 30 games. (in comparison that is this current season for Mete). The following year he played only 30 games again.  He didnt play a full season in the NHL until his 3rd season at age twenty freakin three (23). That's 2 years from now for Mete or the 2021/2022  season.

And as his defined role of PP specialist:

Grand total of 4G 8A on the PP in his first 3 seasons over 144 games. Not to shabby

But then you look at his numbers in his 9th season in the NHL and he has a grand total of

16G 33A over 500 games.

The real point and comparison I alluded to:

My comparison of Mete and Ellis was that both were afforded an oppurtunity to play/get drafted in the NHL due to the era of which they were drafted. Would Mete and Ellis have been drafted to the NHL in 1994? I highly doubt it due to there size. My Golly Gee even today players like Caufield are clearly still passed on merely due to size. That's the comparison not there style of play.

And I do see a little Rafalski style in his game. IF u Watch a little bit of Rafalski play you'll see Mete plays eerily similar. MINUS THE CHIPPENESS  as it was a much more smash league and he has less scoring punch early on (which I would attribute to his youth in comparison) rookie at 18 and rookie at 26!!!

I will be surprised if Primeau gets a start.

As for kinkaid, there is no recall waivers anymore.

Julien announces Primeau will start one of the 2 back to backs this weekend.

Subban used his Defensemen of the year trophy🏆to get the contract from Bergevin.
