By-Tor
TSN is now reporting that both Komisarik and Riberio are now signed. No details as to salaries although Ribiero is reported at 1.178 mill. Can somone find out how much Komo is getting? My guess is 1 mill. So far it looks like Habs will be around 35 mill cap wise. This will give them room to add a player at some time if they need to... Psycing
Great to have him back under contract, I'm curious if it will be long-term or one more like Ribs where he has to prove himself for a big money contract. PS, If you could fix the spelling on his name... It's Komisarek. thx.
bebehabs
i CONFIRM that HABS signed KOMISAREK http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/185513.html but we dunno about the financial terms of it but it should be sumthing worthy
Habsrocket
Would Halak be the back up to start the season then???

Trizzak
Originally posted by HabsrocketWould Halak be the back up to start the season then??? That's jumping the depth chart a bit isn't it? I'd expect Danis to get the next shot at a role on the Habs.
Colin
What's with the one-year contracts? Are all these players so convinced that they're going to wow management that they feel the need to sign short-term so they can get a better deal? Is this the way of the future? Or is this about Gainey having some kind of master plan that sees him remoulding the team? Perhaps he's very cognizant of the fact that the cap is going to probably diminish somewhat, and in signing these guys for one year, he can renegociate next year with a tougher stance. But on the other hand, wouldn't that potentially make it harder to sign these players? I dunno, but I'm not comfortable with it at this point. Habsrocket
one year contracts are fine for now. If the guys dont produce then the Habs will be able to shed the garbage if there is any. Then the Habs can go after a good free agent next year with the remaining extra cash available. It just makes sense to do this right now. Let the players prove themselves to Gainey and Julien. Then remould the team next year. JMO.
Tony_
The one year deals is because aside from making sure players aren't a one hit wonder you also have to consider whether the cap will increase or decrease next season if the league revenus are low. I don't know if it would apply in this case but you never know.
Fanpuck33_
I'm sure the players are asking for 1 year deals. These guys have not truly proven themselves, so they know they cannot be asking for big money. If they put up good years, however, they will have the bargaining power to get more money. If they sign 3 year deals now, they will be stuck earning below market money if they prove themselves.
bookworm
one year deals are great for the teams in most cases anyway cause then the players have to work their butts off.
nut62001
With Riberio and Komisarek signing 1 year deals, will this make them unrestricted free agents after this season or will they be restricted free agents again? These 1 year contracts can be benificial as the player will want to improve his worth for the next season, but on the other hand, if they become unrestricted we face the possibility of losing them. Players cannot become unrestricted free agents until: a) They are not tendered a qualifying offer B) They are 27 years old c) They have spent 8 years in the NHL Komi and Ribs do not fall under any of those conditions, thus they cannot be unrestricted free agents after this season. Token Leaf Fan
Expect the Habs to play Jaroslav Halak in the ECHL for many games this season. He's a great CHL goalie, but he's got very slow feet and would be absolutely demolished in a tier 1 professional league such as the American Hockey League, even as a backup. Hamilton will be deep with the Edmonton alliance. Good news for you guys on the other two signings, expected. shortcat1
This is good news all round. The one year contract will put the onus on them to show that can continue to progress and be positive contributors to the team. If they do that, then a longer term contract would be a better risk for the Canadiens. Good job, Bob.
