It wasn't a masterpiece, but they beat the Leafs without Weber and that's no small feat.  Price, Suzuki, and Kovalchuk came to play.

Well ... the second period was nothing to write home about, apart from maybe Price. I would have loved to hear who said what in the dressing room during the second intermission to get them fired up for the third.

Weird to see the Leafs playing like nervous old ladies with a one-goal lead - that's not what you expect from a team supposedly in its "Cup window" 🙄

Kovalchuk - the guy's an all-star FFS. The entire Kings coaching staff should be fired.

Give him up for a third-round (or even second-round) pick? Madness. Unless he really hates Montreal and won't sign for us -- but that doesn't look like it's the case.

Agreed.  I have no interest in a 2nd round pick...not worth what Kovalchuk is to us as a player, or what he will be worth to us as a comforting presence for Romanov.

Which is weird, no such thing as clutch but commandant says they have a lot of bad luck when they loose,

im totally confused

Luck and clutch are not at all related.

Lucky bounces both for and against teams happen in every hockey game.

If Montreal wants him, we will have to pay market rate. Bergevin has a tendency to bail instead of paying up (see Radulov, Markov). That's why we'll lose Kovalchuk.

I dont believe that to be the case.  See paying up for petry.  See paying markov multiple times before letting him go.  Giving radulov 6m to begin with. Offering more money for gardiner and lucic only to.be turned down (thankfully). Paying price.  Etc...

I think this will come.down to the pull of kovalchuk wanting to be in a city where he is having fun and he loves the hockey history of... vs wanting to be close to family as his oldest daughter wants to do high school in california.  This has been the talk from Gagnon and Basu in their podcast.
