UFAs still unsigned

Forwards:

RAY WHITNEY Age: 31 Last Salary: $2,600,000

Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 24-52-76, 22, -26

Despite a nasty plus/minus playing for the struggling Blue Jackets, Whitney has been among the bright lights for a team trying to shake off the expansion label. He helped carry the team's offence with 140 points in 151 games.

SLAVA KOZLOV Age: 31 Last Salary: $2,350,000

Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 21-49-70, 66, -10

Paired with Dany Heatley and Ilya Kovalchuk for much of the year, Kozlov returned to his earlier excellent form. He has been a consistent 20-goal threat, and that might be enough to earn him another big paycheck.

JOE NIEUWENDYK Age: 36 Last Salary: $5,000,000

Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 17-28-45, 56, +10

Whether it be age, injuries, or the defence-first mentality playing for the Devils and Stars, Nieuwendyk's numbers have slowly dropped over the last few seasons. However, he is still one of the league's best faceoff men and excels in pressure situations.

LUC ROBITAILLE Age: 37 Last Salary: $4,000,000

Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 11-20-31, 50, +4

Detroit's roster was just too deep and he got buried. Robitaille should still be able to score goals if given the chance. But he's no longer worth the high price tag and may have to settle for less if he wants to play.

MAGNUS ARVEDSON Age: 31 Last Salary: $1,650,000

Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 16-21-37, 48, +13

Arvedson has made a career out of a strong two-way game and is considered one of the league's best defensive forwards. His playoff perfomances are quite a contrast, as he has never finished in the positive column in postseason plus/minus.

Also: Chris Simon, Steve Thomas, Donald Brashear, Cliff Ronning, Martin Rucinsky, Sergei Berezin.

Defensemen:

BRIAN LEETCH Age: 35 Last Salary: $9,680,000

Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 12-18-30, 20, -3

He is slowing down a bit, but Leetch can still log a lot of minutes and remains a dominant force on the powerplay. He missed 31 games with an ankle injury, but continued to put up offensive numbers after returning to the Rangers' lineup.

DMITRY YUSHKEVICH Age: 31 Last Salary: $2,750,000

Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 3-11-14, 46, -9

Don't be misled by the fact he played on three teams last year. When he finally went to a good team, Philadelphia, Yushkevich played very well. He doesn't score much anymore, but Yushkevich has become a tough and steady defender.

KEN KLEE Age: 32 Last Salary: $1,550,000

Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 5-21-26, 96, +13

He doesn't put up many numbers in the stats columns, but Klee does a lot of the dirty work required to win games. He blocks shots, makes big hits and clears the front of the net. Klee isn't a top two defender, but he would be a reasonably priced addition to any rotation seeking toughness and elbow grease.

Also: Boris Mironov, Lyle Odelein, Oleg Tverdovsky, Stan Neckar, Fredrik Olausson, Calle Johansson.

Goalies:

FELIX POTVIN Age: 32 Last Salary: $3,550,000

Vital Statistics (W-L-T, GAA, Sv %): 17-20-3, 2.66, .894

Potvin is coming off the worst of his three full seasons in Los Angeles, but much of that can be blamed on the rest of the underacheiving team and a sprained knee that caused him to miss the final 31 games. The Cat still has the skills and veteran experience to be a number one goalie.

Also: Garth Snow, Jamie Storr.
