wow.

Can Murray here get sent down to AHL without having to clear waivers? This must be a factor if Montreal got him.

Looks like Gainey is set on adding more gritty players to the team, or at least the Bulldogs.

I'm guessing the chances of Latendresse making the team just increased.

I figure Sunny and Latendresse get a spot, while they send Perezhogin down to the AHL to dominate there. lol.

Zednik - Koivu - Kovalev

Latendresse - Ribs - Ryder

Bulis - Bonk - Sundstrom

Higgins - Begin - Pleks

Although, Dagenais can stay, and Latendresse sent down, while Perezhogin may get a shot at the team if Dagenais falls.

Yeah, I don't like this move at all. Making room or not, we got a bum ######ing return. Garth Murray will never be a regular on this lineup. I'd rather send Latandresse to Juniors and Perezhogin to the AHL for a year.

Glen Sather is a smart man sometimes. Pick up the garbage Montreal is shedding. I think we took Edmonton's place as their the big apple's new Farm Team.

Well, I'm sure the NYR are a bit upset they lost the chance to get Latendresse in the draft. I mean, it was the Rangers' pick that Montreal traded up for to snag Latendresse. What a steal.

This makes it somewhat more even on all levels. lol. The universe balances itself, even for the Rangers it seems.

I'm really angry about this one, why not cut Sunny, send him down, hope he doesn't clear waivers instead? Hossa is a bigger, stronger, younger, cheaper, 3rd line option. Man... We better be making a right move here, I'm steaming mad.

Don't kid yourself. Hossa doesn't have anywhere near the defensive presence that Sundstrum has. There aren't many guys in the league that do. He's an excellent defensive specialist, and as of right now, is still a better player than Hossa. The question is, would that have changed this season?

Horrible, horrible move! I don't see the need to find Latendresse a spot NOW especially at the expence of loosing a promissing Hossa. This is way too shortsighted and reeks lack of patience. If Hossa had a good first half to the season, they could have gotten a lot more for him. There was no need to rush this!

I'm okay with dealing Hossa...he's never really amounted to anything for us and the organization has had years to evaluate him.

Only problem I have is that I don't think we got equal value for him. I just think that some GM in the league would give up at least a 4th rounder, maybe even more. Hossa is still a guy who is pretty much NHL ready and still has some decent offensive upside in the "new NHL". Murray is at best a 3rd to 4th line player...and probably just a mediocre one at that...

As for Latendresse getting his shot...I'm still not sold that this is a smart move with the new CBA. We have players rights for a limited amount of time and he's going to be UFA eligible before his prime years (generally considered to be 26-30). The long term implications of this move are questionable IMHO. I see no reason to have a kid like this continue to develop in the NHL when he could certainly continue that development in the QMJHL. I suppose they figure he's got nothing left to learn there...

Oh and Sundstrom is going to be a nice guy to have in a league that is cracking down on the clutch, grab, obstruction and interference. He plays a smart defensive game instead of one built on physicality and intimidation. Means we've got a defensive specialist who won't be as negatively affected by the new rules...

I think Sunny will be quite valuable to us...

Hossa is really unproven. Sure he had a good rookie camp, but obviously Gainey and Co. didn't think it was good enough.

We've got other guys, better guys. Sunny is a proven guy who can get the job done night after night. He also holds much more experience than Hossa, and would be a better fit for a defensive third line.

And as many were quick to point out all along, coach Julien and GM Gainey both like Sunny, so he was never really going anywhere.

Personally, I don't love this move, but I don't hate it either. Murray will add some grit to our AHL team, and who knows, maybe he'll surprise us one day.

I'm sure Gainey ran through his options, and this was the best thing he could do. Better than losing him for nothing.

Thank you! At least someone I can agree with.

Never impressed by Hossa . He's had a shot a few times already and done nothing with them. His numbers in the AHL are less than impressive so what makes you think he is going to do any better in the NHL? This is simply a move to get rid of extra bodies and trying to get something in return. I'm sure Gainey got the best he could for Hossa though I would rather he picked up a draft pick even if it was a later one but I don't know much about the guy we got in return so maybe it's ok. Hossa is getting on in years for a prospect and Gainey just gave up on him. He couldn't wait forever for Hossa to wake up.
