Simon Drouin reports this morning in La Presse. The quinquennial plan put in place by André Savard in 2000 is starting to bear fruits.

In other words, Bob Gainey, the Habs' new GM has no intention of increasing his roster by the acquisition of UFAs or RFAs.

Besides rookies being currently developped within the Habs farm system, goalie Jean François Damphousse and forward Pierre Dagenais will be the only newcomers when training camp opens next September 12th.

"Although it's not absolutely certain, we anticipate having a real good look at the young players in our organization. We'll give them a real chance to prove themselves. If a new player should join our team - and I'm just speculating here - it will more likely be through a trade than via the free agents markets", said Bob Gainey during an interview with La Presse earlier this week.

As far as the negotiations with the Koivu and Markov camps are concerned, Gainey said he had a few exchanges with their agents, but, for the moment, (c'est le calme plat) it's dead calm.

I'm glad they are leaning strongly towards having "a real good look" at the kids... it's time.
