Not only was this game postponed but Montreal's next three games are off the schedule as well.  No on-ice activity until Monday but there were no new additions to the CPRA list.

Lebrun says more names are coming... TBA though.

Hope it’s Armia (sorry buddy but you know)

So, the boys from Pori were hanging out together, it appears: not a big surprise there.

The odds are that both of them will be fine, but there is always a risk.

Yeah read about what happened when Sabres dman Rasmus Ristolainen had it earlier this year.  He nearly died.

Absolutely correct. Most (young) people are OK but it's no flu, it's a serious disease.

There has to be, because why would they postpone 4 Habs games for 2 players? Other teams in the US have been hit harder and had to play.

However, they are now much more cautious after the New Jersey-Buffalo debacle.

The main thing is that the infected player(s) safely recover. Jesus. You’re damned right Covid is serious, and the new variants are apparently more dangerous to younger people than the original. 🥺

In trivial hockey terms, how the Habs will make up these games with their already-crammed schedule beats me, and there is a high danger that the team will be exhausted by whatever insane ‘makeup games’ they’re forced to play. Sigh.

Agree as to the priority

Not certain the Habs will be made to make up the games ... may come down to whether the games impact a team making the playoffs ... if not, then standings may just be set by points% ... NHL wants to keep NBC happy and not delay the playoffs & Stanley Cup dates, or compress them because they start late ... as of now the Olympics are still on ... if the NHL playoffs run into the Olympics those games could end up on Bravo ... they paid a reported $1.45 billion for these games and need to try to catch every eyeball possible to make back that money and turn a profit.

There is a window of a few days at the end of the regular season that no games were scheduled in to serve as a potential fix to something like this.  Many thought it'd happen when Buffalo and New Jersey had their outbreaks but they instead rescheduled a whole whack of games in the division.  Now with a lot less time left in the regular season (making rescheduling harder), they could conceivably use that window for these games.

Also tap danced around whether Tuesday's game in Ottawa might be shifted ... said he would let league address the schedule but that he had made requests/suggestions ... wonder if next week might become Weds/Thurs in Ottawa instead of Tues/Thurs to give Habs an extra day to shake out the cobwebs

Interesting to note that, even though the Habs aren’t playing, they haven’t lost ground in the standings. We’re 2 points ahead of Van with 6 (!!) games in hand, 4 ahead of the Flames with 3 games in hand.

It looks more and more like if we can come out of this thing playing reasonably well, we’ll be just fine.

The standings also support the prediction of many that the North would be a two-tier division, with the Habs in the upper tier. The difference is that I was expecting Calgary to be in the upper tier. Oh well, small beer.

Will the game vs Oilers be immediately after? I'm a bit mystified as to how this helps the Oilers.

I think the suggestion is that the Habs will still play Tuesday but it'll just be against Edmonton now.  They're in Toronto at the moment so already sort of in the area.  It's easier to make up an extra Montreal-Ottawa game where it can be squeezed in as a one-off than trying to find room for three straight Montreal-Edmonton games given scheduling and travel considerations.  Two is still tricky enough but it's easier than three.

Heres an interesting hypothetical:  if those 3 games aren't made up by the end of the season, and the standings end up with the Habs facing the Oilers in the 1st round, and those unplayed 6 points dont change the standings and series, would those games even need to be made up?

The answer really depends on if fans will be let in the buildings or not... in canada they haven't been and it doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon, so the league might be fine to cancel them (although they do have an empty week between the end of the Regular season and start of the playoffs to put those games).

That said, if it was two US teams with fans in the stands, owners won't want to cancel games that they have sold tickets to.  They are still trying to recoup every dollar they can after the big losses in the last year.

The revised schedule is out.  Assuming the Habs are cleared tomorrow, they'll play Tuesday against Edmonton now instead of Ottawa as expected.  Eight of Montreal's games have been rescheduled while two have had a change in start times.
