dlbalr
No surprise here given the year he had but Cole Caufield won the Hobey Baker Award today for the best player in the NCAA. Nice way to end his college career. https://www.habsworld.net/2021/04/cole-caufield-wins-the-hobey-baker-award/

Prime Minister Koivu
First impressions of watching Caufield for one whole period: -fast but skates like he is running -high offensive IQ -it’s obvious that he is a sniper -he needs to overcome his size at nhl level. He is very very small and he needs to become a wirey, slippery, sneaky little bastard to survive nhl. For those that have seen more of him, how did he handle board work and defensive responsibilities?
GHT120
Congrats Cole Caufield!!!

Only thing I noticed in that respect was that on the first TO goal, Weal's man beat him cleanly but as the Marlie crossed in front of Lindgren Caufield was coming in from the right-side and waived his stick at the marlie rather than try to engage him ... not certain CC could have done anything but it wasn't a great play ... of course, he since scored

Commandant
Seperate those who won as seniours and those who won as freshmen and sophmores and you see the difference. Lots of players dominate as an older player in their fourth year of college. When you do it as a teenager in your second year there is a big difference. I’m hoping Kariya is the comparable for him - although CC is more of a shooter

But it would be nice to have that kind of talent. Just extremely wishful hoping.
Commandant
Kariya, Eichel, and caufield are the only u20 players to win the award in the last 30 years.
DON
Kariya as a rookie in Maine had 100points in 39games and was a smart top 5 draft pick. I think Gionta would be a better comparison than Kariya #swise for NCAA players.

Was just noting the rarity of winning it as a u20 and how that list is significantly better than those who won it as seniors.

alfredoh2009
Looking at that list of winners, I wonder how Blake Geoffrion would have done if not for that catastrophic injury I hope Cole Caufield is given time to learn to protect from blindside checks and that he does not suffer a career ending injury

He had 3 pro seasons (8 goals in 55 NHL games, 21 goals in 84 AHL games) before the injury ... from what little I recall of seeing him, don't think he would likely have been more than a bottom 6 NHLer for a couple/few years
