MAK
kostitsyn's learning how to be a winner with the london nights. who would've thought that dale hunter would somehow help the Habs !!
option+
I wish his big brother would have came to North America to play Jr. too. Sergei is going to have a much easier transition to the pro game than Andrei is having. Looks like we struck gold with our 7th round pick! Tony_
One of the draft strategies that the Habs made public in the recent draft was that they wanted to draft both Dan Ryder and Sergei Kostitsyn if they were available when it was their turn. Looks like Calgary screwed the Habs over on that one

Guest Biff Malibu
He's been sent to Team Belarus for the world junior championships. Good news. These WJC will be fun to watch from a Habs prospect perspective. Here is an article from londonknights.com regarding Sergei at the WJC B Pool: Monday, December 19, 2005 Kostitsyn Named Top Forward and MVP of World Junior Pool B Championships LONDON, ON: London Knights Winger Sergei Kostitsyn was named Top Forward and Most Valuable Player of the 2005 World Junior Pool B Championships held in Minsk, Belarus. Belarus defeated Kazakhstan by a 5-2 score in the final game. Kostitsyn, 18 had 4 Goals and 5 Assists in leading Team Belarus to the Pool B championship. Belarus is now eligible to take part in the 2007 World Junior Hockey Championships. Kostitsyn is currently in his 1st season in the Ontario Hockey League and is leading all OHL Rookies with 45 points this season. He will return to the London Knights on December 26th, 2005. Since his return to the Knights, the team has gone 1-2 in 3 games and he has had 2 pts. However, the Knights are without the league's #1 and #3 scorers in Rob Schremp and David Bolland who are playing in the WJC A Pool Championships. JMMR
Nice read. It would be nice to see him continue to put up consistent numbers while the big players are currently playing at the WJC's line up. If he can’t do this he will fit in just perfect with our current Canadiens team when their big players are out.

JMMR
Bloodlines are very important in sport it is shocking how many athletes are from the same families. The Habs should not steer away from using brothers they usually have superb chemistry. Look at the Sedin's who have now come into their own, offensively and defensively. I'll let you know my impressions of Kostsitsyn. :king: :hlogo: :king: And tonight is the night! In about a half hour i'll be going to the sudbury arena to watch the london knights play the sudbury wolves. i'll get a close-up look at Siarhei Kostsitsyn and Ben Pouliot. Should be interesting. My seat is behind the Knights bench, about 3 rows back. I look forward to watching the kid. As to any other habworld guys/gals from sudbury, i'll be bringing a small sign that says, on the one side 'Siarhei' and the other 'Kostsitsyn'. The small hand sign also has his number (24) and the Canadiens logo on all four corners (on both sides). If you see me, come and say hi! I look forward to putting a face on a webname. shortcat1
Watched Kostsitsyn play last night at the Sudbury arena. My impressions. 1) gosh the kid looks like a 'kid'. i see him with the other players on his team and he looks like a child compared to many of them. nevertheless, this 'child' is not to be taken lightly. 2) he's very much in his own element out there. he's quite comfortable and, if last night is an indication, he plays his part on the team extremely well. 3) he's an offensive specialist and his coach, dale hunter, who has no problems with having him in ALL offensive situations. he's on regular 5 on 5's and ALL power plays. he didn't play any penalty kills at all. 4) he's got the total confidence of sutter. i saw him on complete power plays all game. he played several positions but, mostly, he played the point. from there, he made precision passes regularly. as a result of this, he was directly involved with one of the london goals - a bang-on pass to adam perry who simply shot it it. in at least one situation, after playing the total power play time, he stayed on ice for a minute or more after the power play was done. when he got back on the bench hunter did nothing about it - that is no obvious reprimand. 5) he played primarily on a line with bolland. one may say that his success is in great part to bolland's presence but, from what i saw, bolland's success is in part due to kostsitsyn's presence. 6) he's not a physical player but he went into the corners, he stood in front of the goalie to help provide screens so he didn't refrain from getting into physical situations. one interesting incident that did take place was when he took out a wolves player in the 3rd period. the player flew up into the board and glass. likely the 'flight' was in part the wolves player's way of dodging a hit but, nevertheless, kostsitsyn did make the effort to take out the player. 7) he's fast, he reads the ice well, his passes are VERY accurate, he's got stamina. i didn't see him make any mistakes on the whole, this is a good kid, a good player and a great prospect. i'm excited.
