Streit's Near Future

MAK

as we all know, streit as to play a minimum 30 games in the Nhl or montreal as to pay his swiss team something like 1.5M

we also know that streit is not NHL caliber. or so I say.

now streit's GP is up to 25 so only five left before the 30GP.

what do you think will be done after.

I thnik he's gone

I agree with Tony - I don't think it's that much.

Also, I don't think he's gone. He's been getting some decent minutes lately. If they had given up on him and wanted to send him packing after 30 games to avoid a financial penalty, they'd sit him on the bench every game. (note to self: check if Komisarek and Perezhogin's contracts have a 30 game clause).

Yeah I have to agree with Mont Royale and Tony. Streit has been working hard and his mental mistakes have all but disappeared. He is finally getting the puck through to the goalie on most occasions and his defensive play improves with every game he gets more than 4 or 5 shifts.

If Hainsey hadn't have been claimed then yes, Streit would be gone.

Unfortunately, Streit is the number 7 defenceman, and no one is left to replace him.

Man all u guys are is want striet gone and say he isnt good first of all hainey is a lazy bum so iam happy we lost him. Streit is playing exceptionaly well recently getting a lot of ice time and his confidence is going up montreal will resign him i say about 2 years for 1.3 million in that rang. watch the games closly and observe him he is going well brining the puck in and getting scoring chances i am happy with mtl chosing him over hainsey. :king:

he's not tough. he's not very efficient moving the puck either.

the habs don't really need him in the future, for now he is a serviceable depth dman. but id much rather have komisarek racking up playing time instead of him.

in terms of seventh defensemen, not too many teams have the luxury to pay bucks for one with the cap room issues..so most teams including the habs are gonna have to make do with minor leaguers and such.

My comment was more towards the state of the Habs depth at D than my feelings on Streit.

However, he so far hasn't shown being worth any contract extension, let alone 2 years for 1.3 million. Also, if the Habs trade for ANY DEFENSEMAN then he is the one bumped to Hamilton.

He appeared to be more of a power play specialist than a regular defenseman the last month or so, but I agree that his performance has improved as he's played. It's too bad that he doesn't have the numbers that would support it. He's just not done anything that would jump out at you. He's not making the stretch passes, he's not shooting howitzers from the point, he's not putting guys on their butts in front of the net. He's not spectacular in any way, good or bad.

Streit was scratched again last night.

K REX was given the opportunity to play a bit last night and laid a huge hit on LeClair late in the third period. But I don’t know if that is enough to keep him in the line up. He did not have a regular shift and was tied for the team lead in giveaways. So look for Streit to get another shot against the Devils Thursday night.
