Bonk's Bonehead Play

Still trying to figure out what he was thinking. Does he know something we don't? Like maybe he is being traded to the AVs? What a stupid play, he was hanging his head at the bench as he should. Man, does he owe a game to Huet.

Also ... noted how short of breath Huet was before the tieing goal. Avs take a timeout to rest their big guns, why isn't Huet given oxygen at the bench? Would have woke him up and refreshed him, I know what am talking about here. My drummer is 66 and we do alot of outdoor gigs in the summer, 90 minute set 10 minute drum solo 104 in texas/minnesota etc. We arrange for a shot of oxygen after solo and it revives him. It would have worked and we would have won 1-0. Sometimes the norm must be replaced by the practical.

Sigh.

Montreal's just paying Bonk too damn much for what he does. As of late he's been nothing more than a third liner and a pretty run of the mill one at that.

What's fascinating about that comment is that that's exactly what Bonk was brought in to be - a third liner. So, for him to be performing as such... well, shocking. As for his pass that *cost us the game*, that's a load of bull. It cost us a goal, and every single player on every single team makes mistakes like that every year. Since the microscope is on him, however, some tend to be going overboard. Why don't you ask the attackers why they couldn't put the puck in the net - like perhaps Sunny, who was staring at mesh only since Aebischer was apparently going for popcorn, and he missed the cage.

We are not losing from individual plays, that's impossible in hockey. You lose as a team. Bonk made a mistake, yes, but Huet made the first save. Where was the defence to clear the puck? Why was Bonk forced to make a cross-ice pass when the other forwards could have made things easier for him rather than doing their usual and streaking away scared from their own end? It was one mistake, and he played a solid game other than that.

Seriously, I know he's overpaid for what he's bringing to the table, but at least he gives a damn. When it happened, did you happen to catch his face on the way to the bench? No amount of us getting on his back will *ever* come close to how he's getting on himself for that play. Now, ask the same thing of some of the other players - you know, the ones who are in this seeminly for the paycheck, and hardly put in any effort at all. Zednik, Kovalev, Ribeiro for starters. If even ONE of them had had a good game, I think we win. But they all sucked the shingles off the arena with their play.

It definitely was an awful play, but you simply cannot expect to win games by scoring only a single goal. I only got to watch the third period, so I don't know how they played in the first two periods, but from what I saw Huet gave them the chance to win and the WHOLE team let him down. Colorado was running all over them during the third and even though the Habs had some good chances, they couldn't score. On the bright side, at least Bonk felt remorse. At least he cares. I just feel he's trying too hard, I think he needs to do like Souray and just simplify his game.

Had Huet not played amazing and the score ended 6-1 like it should have been, no one would be blaming Bonk for his giveaway.

To me, the one who is to blame for our past couple of losses is Kovalev. He has all the talent in the world and can make us win whenever he wants - but he doesn't care. He doesn't rush, he doesn't try, he doesn't play with intensity. The fact is that if Kovalev shows up, we win. Period. If we lose, Kovalev most likely had a bad game. We're a team that shouldn't have to rely on one guy but this guy has the power to make us win. He's given a choice of whether we win or lose and he sells us out to the other team. He controls the outcome of the game. I haven't seen him work since his comeback against Ottawa. He doesn't even throw bodychecks. I definitely don't want him to be traded but it's frustrating to have the God of Hockey on your team yet not get sufficient results from him. Having Kovalev on your team is like winning a million dollar lottery but having it paid out to you a dollar a day.

Sure.

But what's fascinating about your comment is you to fail to realize that Bonk hasn't played well as a third liner by any stretch of the imagination. He's not a bad player, and at his worst in Ottawa still put up decent numbers and was solid on the second line. How did he suddenly drop his production to 1 goal in 37 games? Icetime is a lame excuse. He plays often, and unless he plays very well, he won't be bumped up. Simple as that. Linemates? Come on, he's playing with Zednik and Bulis. They both don't suck. His defensive play has been solid, but he's never going to win the Selke Trophy, that's for sure.

smon have a point. Bonk is one of the best paid players in Montreal. He was brought in to be a third liner who could contribute offensivly. So far he has done that. Or at leat 49 %.

Third liner? Check.

Offensive contributor? One goal = 1%, check.

Ahhh someone agrees with me on the kovalev issue awsome player, but a lazy ass! do i want someone like that on my team hell no.I wouldnt like to see kovalev get traded but what this team needs is a major wake up, And i say SUTTER!!!!!!!!! he will sertainly wake up kovalev and evreyone els....

And it was a bit bonks fault the goal but also its a team game so i cant' just blame him and if we burried all the chances, we would have won the game. Huet was on his head and solid...once again aother 35+ shots on goal game.....

I have to object to Bonk being "protected" by some of the HW members.

First of all, he's a veteran who very well knows better than to clear the puck, cross ice, from within his own end ESPECIALLY when it's a tied game, away from home, and you've been outplayed badly for most of the game. Furthermore, for almost $3M a year, he should never be making those mistakes. What he should be doing is shutting down the other team's power play, using his big size consistently and be on pace for 20-25 goals this year.

And the reaction on the bench said it all. Instead of getting fired up and going out and running over a couple of the Avalanche players with his next shift - he was totally invisible and then he sulked on the bench. From where I'm from, that is the sure sign of a LOSER. He's dead weight, can't be traded and probably has no leadership skill in the dressing room.

The thing that pisses me off the most is that next year is a contract year for him. And he'll probably play his heart out NEXT YEAR out so he can get as much money as he can. Someone like Koivu or Souray should take that guy out in the parking lot after the game and just wail on him verbally. Someone like that should realize that if it wasn't for hockey, he'd be shovelling sh*t back in the Czech Republic for a living. He could at least show some heart.

Well here is my 2 cents.

1. Kovalev has not been showing up anyone watching the games can tell you so.

2. Ribs must have lost his playmaking ability he was been playing with Kosty and Kovy and what has that line produced?

3. Huet played spectacular stopped odd man rushes all night long.

4. Bonk made a huge mistake and was invisible on his following shift.

5. This team needs to score. To do that give ice to the guys who have produced when given the opportunity such as Bulis who thrived with top two line ice.

6. Leadership is a question I have within this team without a doubt, Koivu needs to call a team meeting or lead by example by coming out even harder and carry this team.

Let just say that the evening was a disaster in terms of Bob being able to showcased in a

favorable light his ''would be'' available players from his roster to the Chicago Black Hawks.

They probably had an early leave just as likely did Gainey's cap's specialist he had

brought along with him.

Nobody I hope wants to get any irrational than need be towards Bonk, yet there is something

in photographie called '' the decisive moment '' which,... and there is no way around it, wether

in sport, politique or art,..... can turn, by virtue of ''context'', a relatively mondaine incident

into one able to project a level of un-expected dramatique significance to the observer.

The layers of accumulated subjective impressions preceding the moment all played parts into

making the incident a little larger than life (and the fact that he has made two surprising

mistakes on the same sequences) didn't help.......yet I agree entirely about the fact that he

deserved to be supported in his effort to help this team play better next time.

Damn right on that Bonk gave a damn!! Check out the No expression after Ryder's MAJOR missed oportunity!!! Going to a dumb ass lame backhand..HE could have at least twirled his eyes after his pitifull effort! it looked as if he was content... like at least had a shot! I would have prefered him smashing his stick on the crossbar for crying out loud!

Higgins He went for the back hand too! He's a rook so he's forgiven!

but Ryder come on! SHOOT The freakin puck! SunnyD a clear example of what Dandy says ... "Some of them think their better than they are!" SunnyD aimed at the inside of the post missed by 10 cm when He should Have just shot at goal smack middle! YOU AINT THAT GOOD SUNNYD remember!! and yet again No reaction from his face! That I could tell!

I said it before when Kovalev had a minor brawl with Begin! and that in later games He was nodding and shaking his head when he was not getting passes etc...!! frustrated!

So I say to many of you here that have blamed him for his efforts!! WHY TELL ME WHY SHOULD HE GIVE MORE EFFORT THAN HE HAS DONE THESE LAST 4 games! 90 % of team isnt!! He's been through this before! in NY but this is worse!!! this time its a bunch of third rate linesmen not giving extra efforts... And we blame Theo?!?! ! for giving too many early goals and that it doesnt inspire the rest of the team?!! 18 shots to 4 in the first period! Huet stopsthe Av's for 50 min and it doesnt inspire the Lame bunch of Yuppies!?!?! PATHETIC

NO WAY HABS should have gotten a single point!!! IM GLAD we lost! the few that did deserve a point were no more than 5 and Bonk was in there!!! Big time! HE at least showed he cared!!

About Ryder going to the backhand, what would you have done. Pretty easy game when your sitting back watching. He tried a move and it didn't work, if he had shot it might not have worked and then you'd say stupid shot, should have deked. What many people don't realize is that one on one the goalie has the advantage. Ryder breaking his stick over the crossbar might have made you happy but it would have made him look like a sooky crybaby. He kept his composure whats wrong with that, not everybody outwardly shows emotion.

your taking things out of context...

the point is that for that was as bonehead as Bonks mistake! Meaning Ryder made a Mistake too! he wasnt expecting the pass from Kovalev ( extar effort example ) Ryder was caught of guard ... yes he's human yes thinking back he could have one timed it! he could have made a better back hand attempt etc... the point is that he too missed! Period!

Get real, I'm not taking anything out of context. He wasn't caught off guard, by the time the pass hit his stick he was in close and pretty well out of options. Yes he missed, and guess what he'll miss again in his career, but to say there was lack of effort is ridiculous.

Obviously at the time you wrote this You had no clue what effort meant!

Now I hope Gainey's shake was enough to show you on Saturday what Effort really means!
