Plekanec cut

This leaves the roster at 27 players I believe, a few of whom are injured, and could spend time on the IR, leaving no more cuts to be made until next week.

I guess that means they chose Higgins over Plekanec to play with the big boys against Ottawa and Toronto... Good for him.

Too bad about Plekanec , he was one of my favourites (Though realistically I knew that he was going to be cut,...) , Oh well maybe next year for him (or later this year...?) ...

Not sure what this means for Higgins , he might end up still being a healthy scratch or something... We'll see.

BTW : Welcome to the forum guys

Yes Higgins is being favored over Plekanec.

Plekanec was centering a line with the injured Kilger & Zednik in yesterday's practice... which is the kiss of death.

Since Koivu, Kilger, Begin are injured... our 4 centers will be Perreault, Ribeiro, Juneau, Higgins.

With Zednik potentially out, that might give us a lineup similar to:

Bulis-Perreault-Ryder

Hossa-Ribeiro-Audette

Sundstrom-Juneau-Dackell

Dwyer-Higgins-Ward

And then there's still the question of how they plan to deal with the 4 right defensemen on the team.

I'm positive Hainsey will be cut eventually, leaving a choice between playing Bouillon or moving Quintal to the left side... or sitting Komisarek.

Ah, the joys of coaching...

The fact that Plekanec was cut today should suggest that Zednik will play on Thursday. They wouldn't have needed to cut anybody today if Zednik wasn't ready.

Cutting Plekanec brings the roster down to 27. The roster needs to be 23, excluding injured players. Since Kilger, Koivu, Begin, and Langdon don't look ready, they are placed on the injured list, bringing the roster down to 23, including Zednik :)

When the four injured players above come back (which should be pretty soon), the Habs will need to make 4 additional cuts. The only obvious player to cut seems to be Higgins, after that management will be faced with tough decisions. I think either Hainsey or Bouillon will be demoted. That leaves two more which should be among Dwyer, Begin, and Dackell... tough decisions...

I cant believe theyre gonna keep Bouillon. Sure he's fast and he hits, but he's often out of position and he gets manhandled like a porno star by anyone whos over 6feet tall. Do you really wanna see Bouillon and Brisebois against the top centers in this league? Id take devopping Hainsey over Francis any time. Same thing for Quintal, Komisarek has better tools in every department. Its time for us to finally stop using the same average players. I hope they'll at least look at what Hainsey and Komi can accomplish.

I haven't seen any of the pre-season games, but from what all accounts Hainsey & Komisarek have both stunk.

Hainsey in particular has apparently looked completely our of place... I can't see him making the team.

Bouillon has trouble clearing the front of the net at times, but aside from that he does a lot of things very well:

- His speed allows him to carry the puck out like no other on this team, relieving the pressure in the defensive zone.

- He's the best hitter on the team, and he's dropped the gloves with Domi a few times and didn't get beat so he's tough.

- Even offensively, he has a decent shot and join the rush with his speed.

I'd definitely take Bouillon over Hainsey at this point and time.

But that won't matter much if CJ decides to move Quintal over to the left side... I'm curious to see how the "4 right defensemen' logjam will shake out.

I think it may have something to do with Julien. He used Bouillon a lot in Hamilton and seemed to rely on him a lot.

So Bouillon is to Julien what Traverse was to Therien/Savard? Oh joy! :P At least the guy can play, but if Hainsey begins to push for a spot, I would hope personal preference wouldn't keep him out of the lineup.

i cant see personal preferance having anything to do with it.

If this was the case Ryder would be on the top line, top powerplay, and Pk all season.

Ryder and Julien have been together in Hull, at the World Juniors, in Hamilton last season and now with the Habs.

I think Julien will go with the best he has at the time.

but if he has Audette on the top line, maybe he wont play his best.

:ghg:

I might be reading too much into this, but these seem like kind of ominous words from Julien:

"He's going in the right direction," Julien said of Plekanec. "He has the skills to become a dominant player in the AHL and he can be an NHL player, if not with this organization, then with somebody else."

Yesterday CJ said he was sending Plekanec down because we had similar small offensive players like Perreault & Ribeiro... so he'd keep Higgins.

And even with Perreault, Audette, and even Ribeiro perhaps not being here next year... we have small players like Perezhogin & Kastitsyn on the way who are above Plekanec on the priority list.

Plekanec is a good one, but being a small player on a team looking to get bigger and having other high draft picks who are also small... Plekanec might lose out in the end.
