jetsniper
mm Oklahoma City area got a population of 1.3 million. Would that really be enough to support a team in an area where hockey is not the number 1 sport? Ottawa area population is slightly lower than that, hockey is definitively the number 1 sport in that aregion and the Sens used to have lot of problem before the cap... Before the cap. The cap is designed to bring in parity so non-hockey markets can compete and so Bettman is more able to bring in non-hockey markets. You could use the same argument for Quebec City or Winnipeg (which, of course, are hockey markets). Oklahoma has completely owned all attendance records for minor pro hockey in the United States AND is #1 on THN's list of places that need a franchise. So they also know it could be done. How do we know they don't like hockey anyway, they've never had an NHL franchise. Don't assume becaues its in the south that they wouldn't like hockey. Dallas is all over the Stars, always have been. Jean
Well it means at least some interest is they're, but will it survive the significant price increase of tickets that are inevitable when you go in the big leagues, and does OK City have enough corporations to buy lodges? Thats what killed the Nordiques, the lack of corporate support.
simonus
I'm a big fan for more canadian teams but the problem lies at the top. Bettman doesn't care about Canada. Would rather have a team in Kansas City (which can't even support 2 teams let alone 3) the suncoast and Las Vegas. When Bettman finally leaves and a real hockey person takes over then we will see move towards looking for teams to move to Canada instead Florida. I dunno... the chiefs seem to do ok... the royals are just too horrid for any town to support.

Fanpuck33
Kansas City Kings remember them? That's a poor argument. Remember the Colorado Rockies? Now look at the Avalanche, who have awesome fan support.
CerebusClone
That's a poor argument. Remember the Colorado Rockies? Now look at the Avalanche, who have awesome fan support. To be fair, the fans in Colorado have always had some very competitive teams, as well as many superstar players such as Sakic, Forsberg, Blake, Hejduk, Roy, Tanguay, etc. We'll see how much they support their team when it goes 3-4 years without making the playoffs. It happended in baseball. The Rockies were a string team from day 1, and their attendance was amazing. Howerver, the team has been pretty bad for several years now, and the attendance has been much lowerfor the last 3-4 years.
