Scouting Report: Fischer succeeded Ottawa Senators prospect Brian Lee as the 2006 recipient of Minnesota's Mr. Hockey award as the top high-school player in the state... will attend the University of Minnesota in 2006-07... displays the all-around ability from the blueline that scouts love... skates extremely well and is capable of logging huge minutes... needs to make a smooth transition from high-school hockey to the WCHA... must add more bulk to maximize his pro potential... should spend at least two years with the Golden Gophers before turning pro... his right-handedness adds to his overall value...

COME ON RANGERS... Sanguinetti to us

DAVID FISHER???

I agree ??

Especially when SANGUINETTI is still available.............

If this guy is that far "off the board" we probably could have got him with our 2nd round pick from the SJ trade.

"Off the boards" Red Line Report 42, 50 something ISS, TSN 36

Needs a lot of time to develop apparently...Offensive defenseman who didnt put up a lot of numbers though. Won "Mr.Hockey" award as the best player in Minnesota.

The Habs select an American once again.

Interesting they passed over Bob Sanguentti.

David Fischer, D, Apple Valley (USHSW) -- 6-3, 185 R

Fischer succeeded Ottawa Senators prospect Brian Lee as the 2006 recipient of Minnesota's Mr.

From NHL Central Scouting - Strong skater with a wide base, quick first two steps and his pivots and turns are sharp allowing him to gain time and space...has excellent balance, soft hands and a lot of confidence in his skill when rushing the puck...reads and reacts well to the play at hand...blocks shots and plays in all games situations.

From ISS: A workhorse who's only going to get better. An offensive d-men who opened many eyes this year thanks to improved defensive play and excellent puck skills. Fischer played in a relatively poor competitive level but his skill level can't go unnoticed. Has a hard, heavy shot from the point that helps make him a tremendous PP triggerman.

From TSN: Won Mr. Hockey Award, given to the outstanding senior boys high school hockey player in the state of Minnesota and named St. Paul Pioneer Press boys hockey player of the year...played in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League for St. Paul...battled through a difficult flu, hip pointer and his mothers' battle with breast cancer to captain his high school team to knock off Bloomington Jefferson and heavily favored Academy of Holy Angels in the Section 5AA semifinals in Minnesota High School Tourney...will attend the University of Minnesota.

Looks like a project pick.

Big frame, sound athletic abilities with some leadership and character intangibles.

Says he thought he connected well during the interview and seems to be into the whole Habs mystique.

Sounds interesting.

Our friend Dann Linn said about Fischer:

David Fischer- RD (6’3 185) The smooth skating defensemen hails from the USHS and is headed to the power house University of Minnesota next year. Would be a surprise if picked so high but his skating and size will get scouts attention at some point in the first round.

Fischer was not that far off the mark. THN had him ranked 25th. An extra 2nd round pick also looks well. Wasn't expecting Fischer but I like what I hear about him.
