House11
1. An obvious omition on Habsfan's part. 2. Because that is what Begin is, a 4th liner. He brings a lot of heart and hustle to the team, but he does it from the 4th line. well I think Begin, even being a 4th liner he gets more ice time than most of the 3rd liners on the team ... mostly because he's the #1 PK option he gets alot of his minutes there. habsfan88
2 questions 1, why did we sign Johnson if not to play him? 2, Why do you feel Begin deserves only 4th line ice time? Starting to say screw this site until camp opens and people stop talking out of their pant seats. Too much speculation and what ifs with no real thought going into them. Oh, and a big name center and Dupont would blow the cap, leaving us no space for future considerations, even if you drop Ryder (bad mistake at this point of time) and Ribs. Woops..I forgot Johnson. My bad...well you still know what I mean..those lines would only be a general idea of what i'm thinking. And although I put in Jokinen, that was sheer example. I really had no intention on having as big of a name as him, all I was really thinking of was a bigger frame, and a physical presence. That is why I emphasized the fact that Jokinen in there was pure example, just for the read I guess. So I bet we could afford it if it wasn't a Jokinen calibur of player. Ribeiro to Ryder
No need to make too many trades. Find a way to get Dumont and the cup will come with him
bigbird19
No need to make too many trades. Find a way to get Dumont and the cup will come with him But if you were banned for loving Dumont, won't you be banned from the parade ???
Ribeiro to Ryder
hahahaha damn I must admitt that was pretty good, and quick too.
jordy11
As much as I'd like to see another Quebecer with the Habs, I don't see where Dumont would fit. He's a good 2nd winger at best. I think that Ryder, Higgins, Samsonov, Kovy are better fits than him. The only way I'd see him come to Mtl is if Sak is out for at least 2 months. I could see Higgins going back to center (where he played before) and have Ryder and Dumont as wingers.

Jean
http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/210347.html No thanks, JP. I was about to post the same thing So basically, teams that are interested in him are - Detroit - LA - Buffalo - "Unindentified canadian team" (but not the Habs)
sbhatt
Picking up Dumont would push our cap to the max. I'd rather save some cap space for picking up a hired gun at the deadline.

KoZed
Starting to say screw this site until camp opens and people stop talking out of their pant seats. Don't say you're starting to say it. Just do it. (screw you Nike, I'm not paying royalties for that!) Too much speculation and what ifs with no real thought going into them. Oh, and a big name center and Dupont Funny one would write about people not putting any thought into their posts and then procede to talk about a fictive player named Dupont? Come on. Lighten up! Picking up Dumont would push our cap to the max. I'd rather save some cap space for picking up a hired gun at the deadline. Well unless you can pick up a better player without having to give much in return, Dumont is better than a hired gun: dont have to give an asset for him, have him right from the start of the season so it improves our chances and it doesnt screw our chemistry later in the season. bombTHEice
Dumont would surely give us more depth, I wouldn't cry if we sign him. But it also means that there won't be much chance for a guy like Kostitsyn or Perezhogin to play enough minutes on an offencive line (it would be a waste in my eyes if they play on a 4th line). It also means that we wouldn't have much cap room and so it would be also harder to get a real good addition (for e.g. a true center instead of Ribs ). Colin
The only reason Gainey would pick up Dumont, in my opinion, is if he already had a trade worked out. For instance: Souray, Ryder and Ribeiro to Phoenix for Comrie and Morris. Oh wait. Can't talk about that. :king:

HABSROCK11
Just another made up rumour by the french media in MON trying to pressure the Habs to pick up homegrown talent Every time a Quebec born player becomes available, this is what happens..ALA Briere... When are they ever going to learn that Gainey is a rock and will not crack under the pressure? LOL Oh, and one more thing...it isn't going to happen... :hlogo: forever Edited August 10, 2006 by HABSROCK11
Dalhabs
2M$ added to the cap for a player that we have a great chance of replacing with a prospect. No thanks. Although it would make my NHL2006 team alot better Seriously... I think Perezhogin, Kostitsyn or even someone else of the bulldogs can be as good as Dumont. BTW. love the words "Dum" and "ont" means in swedish. Dum = dumb and ont = hurts (as in "it hurts") sooo.. Dumbhurts no pls
C-Love
Well it looks like the Dumont move is nixed. From the last RDS article posted on this thread it appears that BG is not interested. Oh well, I'm sure he knows what's best for the club, I just wonder how big of a paycut (if that's true) that Dumont was willing to take. I would hate to see the Leafs sign him and in turn come back and bite us in the ass this year.
Dalhabs
We cant start doing like top soccer clubs in europe either. Example: Real Madrid buying every starplayer that comes up becaus they dont want any other team to get them.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Either way is good. If Bob signs him, we have more assets to package for a heavy duty C. If he doesn't, good for him for committing (within reason) to developing the young guns. We can't lose. As for TO, what the hell, there's always gonna be SOME decent players over there. It's interesting to notice how things are shaping up these days. The Canucks pick up Habs' cast-off Bulis to play as a top-6 forward...Buffalo 'star' Dumont wants to come here and we don't want him...this just shows how much more fundamentally solid our team is now. Four years ago we'd have been begging Bulis to stay, and doing cartwheels that Dumont wanted to come. Slowly but surely we are beginning to approach the league from a position of STRENGTH. And damn, it's feelin' fine.

The-Habby2919
I really dont see the problem with having 3 equal scoring lines and an effective shutdown line. Buffalo did it and look where it got them. Ryder-Koivu-Higgins Samsonov-Ribeiro(Hopefully we can get somebody better, hell, even Grabovsky might be good)-Kovalev Dumont-Plekanec-Johnson Begin-Bonk-Murray/Downey (Kostitsyn and Perezhogin) :hlogo:

I would like to see that as well, but the addition of Dumont would still make me very happy, i have seen him play lots, love the way he uses his body and he is underrated in that aspect of the game.
