Short translation:

"Now I can stop lying and start coaching" said Carbo, visibly happy to start the season with Latendresse.

Lying?

"With each game, it was clear that Guillaume had his place with us. There was a nice battle and other kids impressed us, but Guillaume can help us in so many ways: he can play on a 4th line, but also on a 1st line and on the powerplay. I couldn't say the others didnt have a chance. But what matters is that Guillaume is with us because he deserves it."

"He's going to have a lots of friends now. More than he had yesterday. When something like that happens, suddenly lot of people are interested in you."

"I didnt know him, but after all he went though last year he was more prepared. Now he has to face NHL exigences. He'll have to be serious, train, be constant in his efforts. The McDonald's, that's over." said Carbo in front of a Habs logo that stands next to the sponsor of the coach's office, McDonald's.

"I spoke to Guillaume this morning and its sure nothing is garanteed. He'll spend the entire season here, but its sure he might not play every game. From now on, I'm his and the fan's worst enemy because I will have to make decisions to keep him out from some games. If he plays and plays well, he'll make it harder for me. All he has to do is play as well as he did in preseason. He didnt have a bad game and he worked hard. That's what I expect from him. As a matter of fact, that's what I expect from all my players."

ITs tough to be a coach in Montreal. Or any sports team in any big market. The media and fans are all over you all the time. Some times you have to lie or miss-direct answers to accomplish your goals.

He should be used to it though, with all the time he spent here as a player

And in this case, it's more pressure. After the camp he had last season, there was a buzz about the guy all year. Now that he's on the team, everyone is watching, and not only Latesndresse. The coaching staff is going to be questioned every shift, his linemates. Because everyone wants him to succeed so badly, not just because of what he may be capable of, but because there hasn't been as much talk about a player in I don't know how long.

He's handled this situation very well. Now it's out of the frying pan and into the fire. The first two parts of the test have been passed. The coaches are obviously impressed with him, and from Koivu's comments during the week, his teammates know that he's mentally ready for this level. Now all he has to do is show his talents when it matters.

Is he sticking with 84 or is he going to wear a different number?

The positive in Latendresse's case is that most fans love him because he's big and hits like a freight train. That's much easier to do than rack up points. So even if he hits a slump, fans won't get on his case too much if he keeps plowing through the opposition.

i kinda was hoping he'd get a new number too

I'm starting to dig the #84. Lats can make it unique.

Also... with the number 84, we can now nickname Latendresse "Big Brother"!!!

i think i totally missed that reference

1984 the famous novel about a future where technology has created an anti-utopia. A world where "big brother" monitors your every move. A classic novel of the 20th century.

I really like the reference and am really impressed by the idea.

Sunday 09-10-06 10:47:07 - Wo else had a jersey numbers in the 80's?

LOL I dont work the graveyard shift anymore. Thank God.

When I used to do it, I'd drink about 6 cups... before going to work, were I'd drink 2 silex... minimum.

No wonder I went through withdrawal when I tried to stop drinking coffee. Worse than trying to stop smoking, seriously.
