I will be dissapointed if we lose. If ABI plays the same way and our lines keep it up, we should definitely win this one. Maple Leafs dont make excuses as they beat the 2nd best team last night so we should do the same against a lesser opponent.

Expect a big night from Higgins. I have a feeling he'll pop 2 tonight.

Hehe... was close!!!

Awesome night for Higgins, he had two brilliant rushes (one on his goal and the other where he split the d and was robbed by Emery).

Our penalty killing was awesome once again! We're 3rd in the league with 92%. Kovalev was playing well as a center both offensively and defensively. I did not see him play much in this game though. He only played 10 minutes even strenght, around 1 shorthanded and 2 on powerplay time.

He should play more! If he does I'm confident he'll get more then his point per game has now.

Well very fun game to be at thats for sure.

Plekanec drew 2 penalties and looked great in a more defensive role

The Russian line was excellent all night very good puck possession.

Higgins = God.

Aebischer played great.

Streit made some great passes and is starting to lay the body more nad more.

Only two conernes

1. Komisarek I really hope he will be 100% Thursday.

2. Faceoffs after a great start the Canadiens are slipping every single one of them.

Hmm i bet this has been posted here before, but 17 pages to read. I just ask again ;)

Higgins - Koivu - Ryder

Samsonov - Kovalev - Perezhogin

Latendresse - Bonk - Johnson

Begin - Plekanec - Murray

Were this the exact lines? or were Begin and Latendresse switched? Cuz i saw Bonk assisting the Begin goal.

Those were the lines, except for Downey who replaced Murray. But at the end of the game to hold the lead Perezhogin and Latendresse were replaced with Begin and Plex on the 2nd and 3rd

After a very halting beginning (the 1st period), the game picked up in the second & third periods.

The skating was terrific on both sides. The upside is that the Canadiens won... :D

Man, I do love how the 'new NHL' is maintaining it's policy on obstruction, clutch & grabbing, hooking, etc. It's making for a much faster and WAY more exciting game to watch. (Thank you Bettman & Co. on that one).

Carolina's next. Looking forward.

Go :hlogo: Go!

Ah oke that makes sence.

Btw how did Downey play, like the old Downey, or could you see his not 100%?

Downey played less than 5 minutes, he layed no hits. But skated well and played with heart.

The Sens didn't cheap shot because we scored the first goal and we led the score all the game.

So it was more with his good attitude that he helped the team.

A good soild game for a change and it was nice to see. TheBigRedC asked about officiating, i thought it was fine last night, all the penalties against the Habs were ligit. One on Perez may have been soft. I thought the first 2 periods were good in all 3 zones. The third it looked like they were trying to protect and almost let it get away. The gave up almost as many shots in the 3rd as the first 2 combined.

Good News:

2 points

Lats,Markov, Higgins stood out

PK looked great. They get enough practice

Played hard for 40 minutes, getting closer to a full game.

Bad News:

Penalties, My god do these guys learn from mistakes? Apparently not.

Komi injured?

The PP looked awfull

I thought they mailed in the third.

As Kozed stated many times, Give Niinimaa a break. He IS on the wrong side. His partner Streit gets alot of credit but his turnover lead directly to the second goal but everyone mentions Niinimaa. Why is that? I think his plus minus is better then Rivet and Souray.

His plus/minus is minus 4, tied for 2nd worst on the team with Begin and Murray, and worst among Habs defenceman.

Latendresse has the worst plus/minus with minus 6.

My friend who is a Dallas fan and also watches the Habs, keeps telling me that what I am seeing in Niinimaa, is what I am going to get. Perhaps being on the wrong side is hurting him (although many of the bad clears I see don't seem to be relevant to that issue), but my friend is not convinced.

Let's face it, Niinimaa is a "project". The project is not going so well right now. I am sure Gainey and Carbo are expecting better then this for the money they are paying.

Well Niin was playing very well with Dandy, making good clearing passes and skating the puck well. He could hit guys in strides right out of the zone. They were probably the Habs' best pair... when Dandy got hurt and Niin was forced to switch sides, you saw he wasn't comfortable. He's a left shot on the right, so his passing lanes are screwed up, unless he skates to the other side of the zone.

The automatism for a D who wins the puck along the boards is to turn to his shot side and try to clear the puck along the board. Niin can't do it, if he turns to his shot side, he's facing the center of the zone. If he turns along the boards, he's on his backhand. Its like using a 1st basemen at shortstop.

Little details that make a huge difference when you've got an opponent on your ass.

I think the "project" was going fine. Actually, if we hadn't had Niinimaa, we might have been forced to see Streit, Souray or Markov on the wrong side, which could have been just as bad if not worse. The fact that Niin's holding is own is actually a testament to his talent. He's not even doing worse than Rivet!

Exactly Kozed, Dandy and Niinimaa were the best D pairing the habs had. I beleive they were plus 8 until the injury. Once Dandy comes back i think they will be a solid pair again. Steit goes back to # 7.

Coach's don't put as much stock in the plus/minus stats as the average fan & the media does. If you think about it, every player on the ice gets a minus for every goal scored - yet 2-3 of them may have had no real fault in that goal? And they still get a minus thanks to the mistake of another. It isn't the best measuring stick of a defenceman's(any player actually) ability, just like a lack of offensive numbers don't judge a defensive specialist. A coach is counting giveaways as well as looking for things like missed assignments in order to see if a player is performing well or not. To be honest the plus/minus stat is very minor when evaluating a players performance - not ignored but not high on the list!

I'm just curious what people also watching the game on TV thought of the officiating? I know we have been getting a few hard calls, but so has the other team. So I was just looking for an impartial observation of the game tonight. I have my own, but a family member was on the officiating staff tonight, so I would like to hear what others have to say.

I thought it was an extremely well officiated game. I didn't see any bad calls.
