The Politics Thread

After watching last nights Republican debate I have to say that I cannot stand Romney. He's all over the place. Not matter of factly at all and mutters on loose strings of political blather. All politicians do this but with Romney it's so obvious I find him totally vacuous. Ron Paul is too tedious and also seems too tender. Would Hillary or Obama bring him to crack his voice in a heated debate? Too skaky.

I like McCain, Thompson and Giuliani. Not surprising considering they're the leaders. If the party has anything to stand for it must choose between these 3 carefully. The Republican party is about to get a new and better voice and tact than it does presently.

Some will say that there exist questions on McCain and Giuliani due to policy skeletons in the closet or bad baggage, but at least these guys are SHARP. I like Thompson the most but he won't win. Too bad he had to reach out to the Bible belt but he had no choice. Do this or lose. He doesn't worry me about being dishonest on that flipflop. He had no choice! His attacks were cheap but effective last night but IMO; bring it on!

Thompson

America needs this and the Democrats are looking to turn in a new positive direction. God bless America. She needs it.

those comics are really juvenile and vulgar.

that is exactly the point why it's funny, turning politic into a vulgar and juvenile comic show. You might not like South Park hein?

Steve Bell is the greatest political cartoonist of all time. Plus, if you think that is vulgar in the british media you haven't read the two right wing british stalwarts The Sun and the DailyMail.

Its a tough world out there and if you can't handle a little prodding, then you aren't tough enough to handle politics or life.

South park = witty, Steve Bell = not. The British on the whole are quickly corrupting themselves in just about every possible way, comparisons are not apt.

Anyways, came across something that may explain a few things about our buddy Pierre. Turns out their is a scientifically documented mental health gap between left and right.

haha dion is a sad loser. kinda sad when harper acts like he has a majority and the supposedly official opposition doesn't give a sh*t.

Welcome to the circus:

minority government conservatives- Harper- but i act like i have a super majority and a mandate from the people

official opposition: jack layton and thomas mulcair and danny williams the pride of newfoundland!

official Losers 1A Liberals: went on a hiking trip, no where to be found

official Losers 1B bloc quebecios: who are out for a permanent bbq somewhere in their nation, location unkown, afraid to come out where ever they are

The evil Sith back bench tories: plotting something sinister

some lady outside named elizabeth may is talking

the media: lost with the liberals angry at the tories, so they try to tell the liberals to do something through secret messages, but since the liberal party is a dead horse they're like "talk to jack he's the official opposition".

the public: in a confused state of mind, wondering who they elected in the first place, apathy continues to grab hold

------------------

ADD: This might be the greatest political website ever, brought to you by the official opposition in ottawa the ndp.

Oh first BC provinicial news!

The drunken marital cheater's heir apparent quits the B.C. Liberals rumour has it she's running for mayor of Vancouver against mafia boss sullivan.

Prediction: If she runs she splits the right vote, Vision or Cope wins, the people win, and vancouver wins.

Just a refresher course this is our premier:

campbell_mug_shots.jpg

pulled over with his chief of staff who is his mistress, on vacation in Hawaii.

A pretty good move by the Québec government who is already sending a delegation of economic specialists in Rio, Brazil to ask about and evaluate what kind of needs and expertise will be needed to build/organise the 2016 Olympics infrastructures.

Rio said that we're among the first nations to do this. Good to heard.

Finally, the federal Grits come up with an attack that isn't stupid other than: "doorknobs is not legit infrastructure spending since it already exists". H1N1 shortage is a grenade Harper can ill afford. But, it just goes to show how derailed the Liberals are. It took this long?

De-facto Majority. Iggy is no better than Dion.... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Maybe the Grits are finally waking up!

Doorknobs? They might be right but Canadians generally don't listen to people waving doorknobs!

Anyone remember Angelo Esposito?  He was the can't-miss prospect in the 2007 draft that wound up busting completely.  Evidently, he's found his second career...

Well I hope he busts one more time.

I don't remember him being touted as a "can't miss" prospect when he was drafted, but rather the opposite: a high risk, high reward guy.

A year or so before the draft, he was hyped as the possible number one pick.  The Habs were skewered by some for passing on the next homegrown superstar.

Stu Cowen’s Montreal Gazette article is very disappointing. Doesn’t bother me at all that he doesn’t like Trump - many people I respect don’t.

but to give up your childhood hero because they are in support of Trump? Kinda shallow if you ask me.

Trump to me is like Gallagher - hate him on the other team, love him on yours. (Or any mouthy star on the opposing team).

Trump’s noise aside, he does what he says he will do. If you don’t like his policies, vote against him, if you like his policies, vote for him.

His economic policy will long outlive his tweets.

It's kind of like ditching a friend just because their beliefs differ from yours. Many people here will remember PTG and how I seemed to despise him. The thing is, he was so much like one of my best friends from college that there were times I questioned if it was really just him impersonating someone from Missouri. If I actually had known PTG in real life, there's every chance we could have been friends. But only knowing someone by the words they put on a page, it's much harder to make a meaningful bond and get to know a person. I personally cannot vote for him in good conscience, but I also understand we're in a climate where it is "anybody but the other side" in politics. This is the biggest issue in the world to me, that there is so little compromise anymore. It's A or B and no room for C. This is my biggest issue with Trump - American is a country that comes together when the going gets tough. WWI, WWII, 9/11... under Trump, the pandemic only served to further divide the country and that is largely his fault thanks to his rhetoric.

He's more like Darius Kasparaiitis or Ulf Samuelson. He's definitely a dirty player. He's not likeable whether he's on your team or not, you're just happy to not play against him if he is on your team.

Yeah, he really got Mexico to build the wall, stopped illegal immigration, helped my fellow middle classers, and replaced Obamacare... Oh wait, he just repaired some existing wall with taxpayer dollars, hit 10 year high illegal immigration numbers last year, made significantly lesser tax changes than promised, and pretty much only got rid of the federal mandate to have health insurance, which has had no effect on lowering people's rate to pre-Obama care levels.

The polarized nature of politics does drive me crazy these days. To many in my real life world, a vote for trump is a vote for racism OR a vote for Biden is a vote for socialism.

I tend to be a small government, free market capitalist who I hope isn’t a racist.

as an immigrant myself, it really bugs me that Obama and now Biden/Harris would give citizenship to illegal aliens. I like Trump on immigration.

in my world, the middle class did better under Trump (unemployment being low I feel helps the middle class the most). maybe your world is different. Gas prices alone helped me GREATLY and helped stop inflation (I remember under Obama when gas was at $4 a gallon and they were raising the cost of groceries to keep up with the fuel/delivery costs)

Obamacare personally hurt me. I was fighting off bankruptcy at the time and couldn’t afford ANY health insurance and come tax time I got fined per month for not buying healthcare. All that is struck down so far is the fines - as long as Trump keeps his promise to not hurt those with preexisting conditions, all will be fine. Will Trump keep his promise - I suppose that’s the thing to wonder/debate.

but here - at least this is a discussion on ISSUES - not simply, he’s a jerk.

I agree with you 100% that there needs either to be a C option or at least a willingness to work together in spite of differences instead of what I see - that republicans instantly disagree with anything a Democrat says and Democrats instantly disagree with anything a republican says. Neither side is ALWAYS wrong and neither are they ALWAYS right.

Just to put it here - unless I’m blinded by Ohio - I think Trump is winning this election. Wouldn’t be surprised if the house and senate go republican too.

Ohio tends to vote with the winner and it just looks to me like Ohio is going red.

USA look like fools worldwide with Trump in  charge.

Cheap gas is nice, sure ... but the reality is that the POTUS cannot set oil prices, as much as he might want to.
