Anyone aware of the new no smoking laws in Nova Scotia. You can't smoke in public. Basically in your house or car. No designated areas, not outside!

So if you live in the 'burbs, bus to work, and smoke: when do you smoke? 1 before you leave work and 1 when you get home?

Guess everyone quits, but why not just ban the sale of tobbaco? Why let us continue to have a pack at home? Doesn't make quitting easy!

So now the fines for smoking in the street will tie up the courts, while a joint will still get you a stern talking to by the cop. Hmm..

Vancouver, seems veryone out there quit smoking and took up bud. Play the Commodore there, stringent nonsmoking, but a spliff is fine.

Just rambling now, playing poker 1 pack into a week of quitting.

Pierre you sound like a very angry & bitter person, you need to chill out and take a breather

So?? Thats a factor in any country, the bottom line is that America's employment numbers are better than anywhere else and the economy is growing faster than all the other 1st world countries, so they are doing something right.

I am a very bitter person. Thats a fact. Society has made me bitter but thats a really long story don't want to get into.

The Economy is in bad shape. Don't believe what the numbers are telling you. People are getting jobs yes but they are cheap jobs, jobs that don't pay as well. My cousin got laid off as a dietitian and she went 8 months without a job, then found 3 jobs but they still do not pay as well as her first job. She now couldn't afford the rent and had to move in with my family. She has a masters degree and was working on her PHD and boom she now spends most of her day baby sitting a little kid and working for 10 dollars an hour.

Jobs are being created but they are not career jobs they are minimal jobs that are part time and don't pay well.

What is a dietitian anyways? Just cuz you are well trained at something doesnt mean there is a big demand for it and you will get a job. If her only priority was a good job she shoulda researched something that was in big demand.

Anyways, I never said unemployment was a single fail safe economic indicator, I was just making a point related to the mexican immigration issue that the USA has low unemployment and there's plenty of jobs for illegals (compared to say France, where unemployment rate for moslom immigrants is like 40%). I work in the securities/finance industry and am fully aware of the utilities of various economic statistics and indicators as a guide to ecnomic strength.

We should watch a game or something. I live in Fairview :P

Yes, I know. Not related to this thread but I didn't want to comment. It's getting heated here.

Conservatives cracking down on toxic chemicals-CBC

I'm not surprised. Many columnists have speculated that the C's would launch mini environmental programs to compensate for the Clean Air Act shortcoming. Look for more in the future.

...And still possibly more...

Will Harper and Layton make a green deal? - CHANTAL HÉBERT - THESTAR

I highly doubt Harper and Layton will make a deal. Harper is dead set against everything Layton asked for in his bill. This is like Bush and the Baker-Hamilton commission they are not going to agree on anything here.

For those who know... CoRvInA here was feeling happy for Pinochet's death and how fine and right it is that his fate coincides with the same day (December 10th) of another anniversary of the signing of the International Human rights act, also the same day pinochet was accused by Judge Garcon in Spain almost a decade ago and the cherry on the icing is that this SOB dies on the same day that his wife celebrates her Bday!

Too bad he escaped trial... yet here is to You ...You Facist Pig may u burn in Hell with all the other Assassins and World Criminals!

Oh and may your family suffer as much as possible!

Funny thing about the Greens is they're eroding the NDP vote.

Um, this obviously illustrates how silly some New Dem voters are. The Greens are economically right of center in many ways.

PS. Don't mention this to NDPer's who are going green. It's too enjoyable watching it happen. Don't tip them off.

PTG, didnt you say we had a problem in holland, with getting a majority. Your right, formation is getting hard. They cant get a proper majority. Maybe we have to vote again in Januar, hahha!

I know its so silly that the NDP is going to lose votes to the right of centre Green Party. LOL

I think thats why Harper and before that Martin won't let the Greens on in the debates because then the Greens will be seen as a centre to right of centre party, but since they aren't in the debates people equate Green Party = left wing politics.

And the Liberals have always been afraid of the NDP so by not letting the Greens on in debates people will assume there a left of centre party so then the NDP voters get taken away.

Granted this will scheme will only work for a little while until the Green Platform is widely known by people and then it will be the conservatives doing the running and hiding.

If the Greens ever could get there message out I think a lot of old PCers who have gotten tired of the Reform/Alliance politics of the Conservatives but don't like the Liberals and can't vote for a socialist party will and could go Green.

Green strongholds as I see it would be BC, Quebec, Cape Breton and parts of Ontario.

Ms. May is going to win her seat in Cape Breton I bet.

A couple places on Vancouver Island last time the Greens finished close third or second can't remember but now I wouldn't be shocked if they picked up a few there.

In all I wouldn't be suprised if the NDP loses 10 seats to the Greens

The way I'd like Canada to become is the Conservative Party imploding again. (its going to happen)

The Albertan politicians start up the old reform and the PC'ers join the Greens.

I'd like to see the NDP and Green party have seats in Quebec.

So my dream scenario of the 2007 Federal Election would be this:

Liberals: 118

Conservatives: 100

NDP: 40

Bloc: 40

Green: 10

Told yeah so.

So which party is winning the street fight so far? Thats how these things end up which ever party comes out looking not beaten up usually does the best in these situations.

Coalition government could be possible but the parties don't get along very well with each other. lol quite fun.

well they talked with the Socialistic party/Party of labour and the Christen Democrats(CDA). But SP and CDA are to far apart on to many things. So they dont have a good base to rule on. NOw they are going to find a 3rd party (or maybe 4th) with Labour and CDA. We have to wait, but i dont think it will work out.

Yeah the Socialist Party doesn't get along with the Labour party from what I've read.

From what I've read about those two parties I could really see Labour in the UK and SPD in Germany having the same problems.

Labour has gone too much third way and is losing its core values. Same with the SPD.

What happens? Party fractures.

For example where did all those Labour people in Britain go after the Third way people in the 80's kick them out?

The problem with the third way movement is that its too centrist, when people get tired of it the either move to the left or right. Works both ways really, look at Thatcher Tories in Britain. NOBODY in the conservative party over there is ever going to go that far right.

Europe everyone wants to move into the centre. Thats fine and dandy but that comes at a price eventually. Then you can't tell the parties apart anymore no new ideas because they don't want to step there foot out to the right or left.

And this is coming from a socialist. I love to see all points of view represented. If you are a socialist party act like one please don't go centrist on me.

If you are a neo liberal party act like it.

conservative act like it.

I hate it when parties start putting on different hats.

The republican party for example the party of economic responsibility and small government. LOL

instead they're big government, not economically responsible. hypocrites.

As a socialist I see all that money wasted for a stupid war when it could have gone to social programs that help the people in this country but oh well.

Then the democrats have been labeled the 'big government' people. I remember the Clinton years. Hmmm, debt started by Reagan and Bush? Disappeared. hmmm

Granted Clinton was a centrist. Or really evolved into one after '94. But what happened after Clinton? The country went hard right. Centristism cannot sustain itself.

Politics is a swing, it goes from one direction to the other. The swing doesn't go anywhere when its in the centre.

Granted there are things that can bind parties together, this is when the parliamentary system works the best.

A common one is Environment.

nah its more like CDA is to right, and SP is to much left. So mixed idea's. SP and Labour are both Left, but SP is a bit more extreem. Labour is more towards CDA. But yeah SP and Labour had some dissagreements, but could get along. Its more like SP didnt want to rule with CDA. So they fell out.

And now nobody has a clue :D

Whats the big deal about the environment??

Maybe in crappy countries like china and turkey the rivers are all black with sludge and there's acid rain all over, but thats their problem not mine.

Our house is in order, why is this stupid bs always shoved down my throat?? Why should I feel guilty about some 3rd world losers ruining their countries??

So sick of this crap and all the scams

Yeah, the environment. The lost cause. It makes me think of "Rush" and their song "The Manhattan Project". There's a line in the song which says, "The hopeful depend on a world without end. Whatever the hopeless may say."

The song is about the bomb but that line says alot.

Another song that makes me think of the environment is Bruce Cochburn's "If A Tree Falls" and Neil Young's "Rockin' In The Free World".

"We got department stores

and toilet paper

Got styrofoam boxes

for the ozone layer

Got a man of the people,

says keep hope alive

Got fuel to burn,

got roads to drive."

Funny how all 3 are from Canada. I guess I'm biased :P

We all want our beer, toilet paper, beef, produce, computers, Nintendo Wii and more. How do these items make it to market? Usually via a truck, a train or other mode of polluting transport. Everyone and their dog seems to want to save the environment and to claim to be "green".

Take away those very peoples beer, toilet paper, beef, produce, computers, Nintendo Wii and more and there would probably be a revolt. These environmentalists (many) would likely lose their jobs. Thus, the issue would become the last priority on their list. The alternative of not doing anything for the environment will lead to a similar event.

By the time our species gets serious about this it'll probably be too late. A good example is of course Canada. The Feds can pass any environmental legislation they choose to but it probably will fail. Here's an example;

"The Federal government has announced plans to make Canada "Green". One of the highlights is that one of the provinces, namely Nova Scotia will halt all burning of coal".

But wait, Nova Scotia (out of economic interests) has sold their coal to a 3rd world country and now they are burning it. The environmentalists are all happy in Canada because we are "Green" but the coal is still being burned into the freakin atmosphere. The Federal government doesn't seem to be able to prevent the sale of the coal.

Nova Scotia is but one province. How often will similar events take place with the remaining provinces? By the time we get our butts in gear it'll probably be too late regardless of how "Green" ANY (Liberal, Conservative or NDP) environmental bill is.

Multiply this scenario world wide and we do indeed have a HOPELESS CAUSE. I hope I'm wrong but the wheel just keeps on turning.

Whats the big deal about the environment??

Cause even if its half way around the planet it will affect you or your kids some day ( rather sooner than later ) Do you know that nearly half of the green house gases that are affecting where you live now were produced in China?

I like making the House analogy:

Imagine your one of many roomates sharing a house... Your up in the top floor fine and dandy you got your own kitchen bathroom TV and even entrance...etc.. but I live in the second floor and I'm chipping off the beams that support your floor to burn in my fireplace to heat up some food... know you dont even worry about it you Dont even know I'm doing that!....but sooner or later your gonna fall through on your butt and everything you have with it

As of what happens here and doesnt happen here (as in shipped out) Its called Nimbysm from N.I.M.B.Y.

Not In My Back Yard

Hope is the last thing we can give up on... We really have no right to say Hopeless... Some things are done for, doomed yes but not everything... Just today I read we just lost one species of Dolphin (again China) Extinct! more extinctions are inevitable the maximum number of those extinctions are what we can help to minimize!

if your ok with living your life to the fullist without grief or worry about what repercussions will this make for your sons or grandchildren or your relatives children...Then You shouldnt care... but you dont deserve to be called a member of society...

Please reply to me guys about your thoughts on these matters... I actually study and work on this... specifically on one realm but I am interested in feedback on your thoughts from your perspectives and your views on the matter of life and things

Ok first off, how are CHina's gasses affecting me? I dont care if the ice melts somewhere cuz I live in montreal, a city way above sea level that cant be flooded. Also, oh no, greenhouse gases might make the world warmer, Im really gonna miss those -30 degree winter days.

Second, theyre gonna kill themselves a china way before it affects me, I was reading the other day how Beijing relies on underground aquafiers as its supply, and theyre almost all used up/polluted, sounds like a problem haha.

third, why should I constantly be harasses to recycle (which is a scam anyways and doesnt help the environment) and do stupid 1 tonne challenges when some chinese factory is making craploads of steel 10 times less efficiently than anyone in north america. Why arent our environmental do-gooders harassing chinese people with all this advertising and schemes, wouldnt that be more cost-effective?? Seems to me theyre more interested in acting like little fascists to me than getting 3rd world countries who are pollutting the most to stop (they dont even have to sign that idiotic kyoto treaty!!).
