MAK
I wish he could say the same about samsonov who looked(against philly) more like a figure skater with a stick than a hockey player... hey sammy: your dekes are nice but it won't help you score if you don't shoot the black thingy!! RobRock
I wish he could say the same about samsonov who looked(against philly) more like a figure skater with a stick than a hockey player... hey sammy: your dekes are nice but it won't help you score if you don't shoot the black thingy!! I think he did earlier the season. I'm not sure if Ryder has someone in his head telling him to diversify his game more in order to get a long-term deal this summer. The knock against him as a rookie was that he couldn't skate. He's worked on his skating on the way to consecutive 25+ goal season, but all he could get was consecutive one-year deals. Since Higgins was hurt, Ryder's been getting some work with Koivu killing penalties. Maybe he's trying to demonstrate that's not just a trigger man, he can set up his teammates as well as they set him up. Someone's got to remind him that there's plenty of rebounds that can be turned into goals by his teammates, and he doesn't have to pass up high quality shots just to impress the brass upstairs. Michael Ryder, who led the Canadiens with 30 goals last season, has only five, and at his current rate, he won't reach 20 for the season. "I'm supposed to be a goal-scorer and I'm not scoring," said Ryder, who has one goal in his last 13 games. "One of the problems is that I'm not shooting enough. There are times when I'm trying too hard. I'll crash the net and I'll be too aggressive and take myself out of the play." Last season, Ryder averaged more than three shots a game. This year, he's averaging only two. He still has eight shots more than Samsonov, who has gone 12 games without a goal
Easy Ryder
The fact that Latendresse is still on the first line is the main reason for Ryder goal shortage. That line actualy misses Higgins speed. Why not give the chance to fill the Higgins void with Samsonov or Kovy. Latendresse is simply not ready for 5-5 first line duties. I think that a line of Koivu-Ryder Samsonov could benefit Ryder creating movement in the zone and dumping garbage goals.

huzer
Also, Higgins practically gift wraps pucks for Ryder often He's only assisted on 1 of Ryder's goals this year, so that's not the case. 3 of his goals have come on the PP which hasn't been playing well lately. 18 of his 30 last year were on the PP. Get the PP going, and Ryder will probably start producing more as well. The Habs need to diversify the PP rather than working themselves silly simply feeding Souray at the point. Redlight6O
your breaking in a rookie, be patient, although latendresse is playing much better of late. he's streaky and he''ll get hot again.
