Merry Christmas ...

God Jul och Gott Nytt År!

You know, in Sweden we start celebrating Christmas on the 24th, on Christmas Eve. You get the presents on the 24th. At 3 PM, you watch Donald Duck on television. Santa Claus (called Jultomten in Swedish) usually comes after Donald. LAter in the evening you eat the traditional Christmas dinner, and we usually don't have turkey but ham.

Also, in my family, we always eat a special Christmas breakfast, which aside from traditional Christmas food includes listening to Irish Christmas music by The Chieftains and the Pogues.

I think Swedish is one of the few countries in Western civilization that does not have a word for Christmas that relates to Jesus Christ. I don't know why we have a different word for it (jul).

well i just read on Wikipedia that its called Jul cuz of you celebrate something different. It's a German thing (not germany but from all the German folks, from thousands year back), celebrate that the dark/angry goes and the light comes! "Winter-sun change" its called? Well thats how it is translate to dutch.

I wish you guys also all the best. And also the Habs, may our Habs Year be good!!

Minuit !

That´s what I thought, I figured it had somethong to do with our distant past. You know, in our hearts, despite our country being Christened about a 1000 years ago, we are still Vikings and worship our heathen gods. ;)
