NHL.com announcing it as well.

I knew the whole "take the weekend to think about it" was a tactic to make PK accept money (2.5 per) or term (2yrs). Logical choice was to choose term, like PK did.

He accepted both. I'm guessing he sat with his agent and they talked about the reality of the situation. Montreal will have a lot of money free in two seasons. Subban can play to take advantage of it. It isn't the security he wanted but hopefully he had a good talk with Bergevin on his value and worth.

Now of course, if we lose one game after this due to a bad team effort, you just know people will blame Subban. Hopefully the shine stays and we prove we're a playoff team.

I didn't know the dollar amount when I posted that. This deal is for the best for the team and PK in the long run. He gets a raise and only has 2 years to get another if he can prove he is worth it. I agree with you that if it doesn't hurt the future, MB will have gotten a huge boost.

On a side note, if MB & crew establish a short contract out of entry level as a pattern and players expect and accept it, it'll put us in a good situation every year.

SUCH A GREAT NIGHT!

Now when does he play?

Tuesday or Wedsnesday?

In all honesty, I wouldn't expect him until Saturday unless we get injuries or get blown out tomorrow night.

My worry this entire time was two things. 1. Subban not signing and 2. This setting a bad precedent. Subban has signed which is great. It's now about whether or not this sets a bad precedent for the team.

Fantastic news! Everyone will come out a winner in the long run.

Quick question. I remember Commandant or Brian stating that the difference between the years of a contract can't exceed a certain percentage. Is the yr1/2mil and yr2/3.75 mil that's being reported feasible in that case?

so ... who sits now? Diaz has been playing so well, it can't be him IMO.

Fantastic news! Can finally get my girl that women's Subban tee now.

Defense pairings will be:

Markov Emelin

Gorges Subban

Bouillon Diaz

Looks like Kaberle and Weber will be watching from above. I highly doubt both of them will even be with the Canadiens next season.

It's legal, the 35% rule actually doesn't apply here. That was my mistake from earlier, it only applies to long-term pacts. The only rule that has to come into play here is the '100% rule,' rather than me try to explain it, here it is: http://www.capgeek.com/faq/what-s-the-100-percent-rule

Very good news for Habs. Also happy that it's a 2 year deal so now we get a year and half more to look at Subban before going long term on him. Have to figure he takes Kaberle/Webers spot and one of them will be traded eventually. Though I figure Subban probably won't be in the lineup till Saturday so Bergevin has time to make a move.

Is that from somewhere or is it a guess?

I ask because I haven't noticed Kaberle in the first 3 games, which means he wasn't doing anything good or anything bad. I didn't look at the starting lineups before the NJD game and noticed the first period we looked weak defensively. I'm saying it looked as if Kaberle was playing competent defense and not comiting any blaring mistakes.

They don't actually have to make a roster move, with Pacioretty out the active roster now sits at 23.

Yea, I just figured in general they might want to move a defenseman rather then carry 8. Also I thought they will be at 23 with Blunden call up and Subban though I'm probably wrong. And I was they will be at 23.

I think they'll carry 8 for a while, especially since Subban, as you noted, won't be in the lineup for a bit. Pacioretty went on IR, Blunden took his spot on the roster so there was no affect. He and Kaberle were the only scratches yesterday so they had a spot open. When Pacioretty or Nokelainen get healthy though, then something will have to be done...unless there's another injury by then.

Great News. I also heard it was a 2 year 5.75 million deal. I must admit, I was sure that the Habs were going to have to pay a little more to get him to accept a 2 year deal. I was sure the Habs would have to pay 7 or 8 million over 2 years to get Subban to accept a short term deal. Looks like Bergevin did a great job! Also looks like Subban REALLY does like to play in Montreal. IN either case this is great news!!!!
