  1. It is NOT all about what protects the players. With or without fighting, hockey is a game where large strong men fly into each other wearing sharp blades on their feet and weilding sharpened sticks. The sport itself has inherent dangers, some of which are far worse than those brought on by fighting (see Clint Malarchuk, Richard Zednik, Trent McLeary, and many others). We must acknowledge that these dangers are risks that, while we hate to see their effects, we accept in order maintain the quality of the sport; in other words, to maintain the quality of its entertainment value. Otherwise, it could be said that the best way to protect the players is to ban hockey. They wouldn't get their throats slashed by errant skates if they had careers as plumbers or electricians. Hockey is a rough game, involving punishing (legal) bodychecks, intimidation, frustration, antagonizing, and anger. Putting everything you have into winning at all costs. Men employed as career athletes, placed in this type of environment, must be expected to get into fights on occasion. It's a part hockey, and if it were somehow "eliminated" it would have a ripple effect, diminishing the quality of the sport in many ways, and not just by the probable increase in stickwork. Fighting's got to stay. Might as well enjoy it.
  2. I say Bournival. White fits Parros' profile better, but I think Moen and Prust should be able to move enough bodies out of the way for Bournival to get some decent shots off. let's see the kid play in some games that count.
  3. Not a horrible loss, especially considering the the first-game curse vs the Leafs. Good team effort, and I thought Price was pretty solid. With a little tighter defence we could have taken that one. And of course without Markov's flub. Is it just me or does it seem like Markov's skates are glued to the ice? I hope the years and injuries haven't finally caught up to him. How about Wolverine? I could have sworn that was a popped shoulder. 25 minutes later he's back on the ice. EXTREMELY frustrated about what happened to Parros. I'm glad if there's no broken bones, but a concussion for him is still bad news, considering a big part of his job involves getting punched in the noggin. Half a game is not enough, I want to see more of that glorious 'stache! Can we please just dispense with DD? Try as he might he just can't seem to make himself useful out there.
  4. For the past few seasons, the Leafs have seemed to have a knack for looking fantastic in these first-game matchups. I predict we will be brutalized by their truculence.
  5. Oh lord the Broons. This ought to be a great game. I just hope we can make it through unscathed.
  6. I remember wincing nervously every time O'Byrne touched the puck. Anyway, Palushaj was never going to be an impact player in the NHL. Guys like him are a dime a dozen.
