Fire Bergevin

Recommended Posts

The Habs got 110 points, their best regular season in 20+ years.

They got Norris, Hart, Vezina and imo a Selke performance from Pacioretty.

They've outplayed their adversary for two of three games and only scored four goals. Once the joke of the Hamburglar was out of the net, the Habs couldn't score against Ottawa either.

There is nobody to blame but Marc Bergevin.

What a pathetic lot of assholes he brought in this year to augment a core that he's done NOTHING to construct.

Get this turkey out of here. Montreal deserves a GM that seizes their opportunities, not someone who is married to an imaginary plan.

I was a big fan of Bergevin's going into this season but this season left a bad taste in my mouth. I still have faith in him but I dislike the fact he abandoned his plan to appease his head coach who i believe is the wrong head coach. Going into the season this was all about giving the young guys increased roles and chances. Yet not a single young player has broken out this year like say Tampa bay has had with their young players. Guys like Andrighetto came up had some early success to see them demoted to 4th line or benched for no reason.

I said when he was hired hopefully this was the end of the stop gap players or players other teams were dying to get rid of and used Kaberle and gomez as examples. Yet in back to back years he got Briere who Philly bought out and was clearly done and Parenteau who Colorado was dying to get rid of.

To me this is a very important offseason and the top 6 has to be his primary focus. I will not be very happy if the major addition to the top 6 is the hope of Galchenyuk breaking out. Time to purge some of these soft playoff no shows and I wouldn't mind seeing one of the takes a lot of dumb penalty players gone as well.

Why? MB has stated numerous times he is NOT going to trade assets for rental players. He is following his plan.

MB said this was a transition year, they probably would have been fighting for an 8 seed if Price didn't have a monster year.

He has made some good moves, I don't think he is the problem. The guy behind the bench is another problem. MB has to trade guys away to get Le Genius

to stop playing them.

Bite your tongue!!! Our 110 points was not because of Price. It was the brilliant coaching Le Genius provided to Price!

C'mon. The "Fire Therrien" thread a day after he was hired was way worse.

Finish these two sentences:

And

I feel good about his vision for the team when I look at the players he acquires because--------

Who's talking about a rental? MB thought Jiri Sekac and Parenteau were the answer last summer. The summer before he thought Parros, Briere and Dougie Murray were the answer. What makes you think he has any answer this summer besides "we took a step back this year, next year our leadership core will be a year older, I kicked the tires on scorers but the price was too high..."

I think a lot of Habs fans take a look at his sharp suits and fancy glasses and get googley-eyed.

In the US this is what happens with Obama.

Finish these two sentences:

MB is a good GM because HE has a plan and is sticking to it.

And

I feel good about his vision for the team when I look at the players he acquires because he has a plan, is developing an impressive stable of prospects and he took over one of the worst teams in the league 3 yrs ago and has made us respectable again. I would say a contender but the only thing I am more tired of than Ben Bishop is the debate about "true" contenders

If I was Bergevin, I would offer Babcock a monster salary and free intensive French lessons. On July 1st I would be announcing that Babcock is taking intensive French lessons and will be joining the Habs in September

And yes, I know its not going to happen....and yes, I have been a staunch defender of Therrien, but 4 goals in 3 games--2 of which were by defensemen? C'mon.

MT has not adjusted to the fact that TB's forwards and D are too mobile for the chip and chase and counter attack to work.....not to mention that *(!*@@@@!!!!!!!!!!! diving C****S***ker Bishop also is very good at handling the puck. Add to that the absolute absence of any kind of puck luck and bad karma from the refs and the result is the stinking pile of dung and ashes of what we thought would be a long run towards the cup.

Who knows?Les Boys might make it interesting yet, but I would be surprised right now if they win a game let alone four

I think MB's best moves are still ahead of him. Lots of teams with cap issues coming up. They're primed for poaching by teams with aggressive cap management.

you're talking as if we have a lot of cap room

Firing Bergevin would be an act of complete and total idiocy worthy of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Maybe not even they would be that dumb. What are you going to do then, fire the next guy when he doesn't win the Cup within three years? Forever? Good luck with that.

This core is still quite young. The challenge is to add to it, not to sell the future for rentals in a desperate attempt to win NOW. I see no reason whatsoever to doubt that Bergevin will make good decisions in this regard. Heck, five or six games ago everyone was praising his deadline moves to the skies. This is ridiculous.

(As for young players 'breaking out,' well, Therrien gave significant minutes to Beaulieu, Pateryn, DeLaRose, Sekac, and Smith-Pelly. Here is a radical thought for you: not every player 'breaks out' like a supernova. And their failure to do so is not a priori the coach's fault. Again - this is ridiculous).

Marc Bergevin sucks ass. His best acquisition on the roster is a ten goal scorer. Think about that. Name me a GM who after year 3 points to a player like Dale Weise as his crowning achievement.

He's been a shrewd capologist, but the cap space wasn't able to grind out the victory last night.

The people on here downgrading rentals are being cavalier. I can't remember the last team who was second in the league and didn't add scoring. Probably never happened. There are no guarantees to have a season this good in the future. The Habs blew a major opportunity this year and you will all be lamenting it as early as the end of next playoffs.

If the Hamburglar stumbles in game 77, the Habs would have been out in five.

Maybe over kill at this point. ha!

But i have said several times this season that its time MB put his mark on this club. The core of this team was assembled by Bob Gainey.

"Fire Bergevin" is a bit much. But...is Bergevin on the clock?

Time to rethink his choice for coach.

Hire a new powerplay coach. Is it sliiiiightly possible that these last few games are the result of a small sample size? I say if we had scored on any of the 6-10 posts we've hit, the guys would be playing differently and having more success. This series really has been heart breaking. We deserve better than to be down 0-3, but it's life. Bergevin's only true two blunders (IMO) are not signing pk to about 10 years at 5.75 when he could have, and two having a crush on MT about as big as MT has on DD.

To fill in why he's a good gm? Pacioretty at 4.5 for 6 years. Cole and a third for Ryder, shrewdest cap moves, Diaz for Weise (yes) Gallagher at 3.75 for 6, Vanek for a second and justin beiber (not MB's fault vanek busted in the playoffs), petry for a second and another pick, when other teams were paying firsts for those defenseman, I could think of more if I wanted too.

Well. What can I say? You must have smoked some very bad stuff. My advice: take a time out and, like Carey Price would say, chill out.

Bergevin is good. He sure made a few mistakes, but nothing destructive. The guy is intelligent and sensitive. He will learn from the experience and become better. On the other hand, I am quite sure that changes have to be made. I am very skeptical of Therrien's ability to bring the team to the Stanley Cup Final. We also need better players on the wings and at center. It's easier said than done however. Let's see what will happen.

Something that wasn't picked up in the GDT, what the hell was Therrien doing putting the fourth line out there for two defensive zone faceoffs with under four minutes? That move pinned them in the defensive zone for the rest of the game.

Let me ask you this? Those were all cheap deals. All the Bergevin deals are bargains. Will he make a trade/signing that's not?

Sweeeeeep for Babcock!

Bergevin has been brilliant. Can't understand this thread in the least. Its a process, and Montreal is built to grow continually for years and years to come as a result. I highly doubt he ever expected to challenge for the Cup this year as the team is being built for the future. Patience in Montreal is a four letter word.

The people on here downgrading rentals are being cavalier. I can't remember the last team who was second in the league and didn't add scoring. Probably never happened.

It happened last year. Anaheim was second in the league, here were their deadline deals:

- Traded Dustin Penner (who had 13 goals in 49 games) to Washington for a 4th rounder.

- Acquired a then-injured Stephane Robidas from Dallas for what worked out to be a 4th rounder.

- Traded Viktor Fasth to Edmonton for 3rd and 5th rounders.

- Dealt Alex Grant to Ottawa for Andre Petterson (a prospect swap).

They certainly didn't add any scoring. In fact, they effectively traded away scoring for defence depth.

In 2011-12, the Rangers finished 2nd overall. They made one trade on deadline day - they acquired John Scott. Not exactly a big scorer. :) Their only deal in the month leading up to that was dealing away Wojtek Wolski for a pick and minor leaguer.

That's what I said, but in way fewer words :-) Sorry for being so blunt LM, but you were not the only one steaming after last night's game. A perfect example of why I hate analytics.... it might be part of the explaination but it is not the end all and be all that its proponents suggest. In fact, hockey is extremely hard to quantify except for the score which is the only analytic I really care about.

Well maybe I'll just stop buying Canadiens merchandise until the indeterminable "future" that had better be filled with nothing but ponies and lollipops after Bergevin p*ssed away 2013 and 2015 with his spendthrift ways. If they're not going to take the present seriously, why should I keep filling their coffers?

The 2013 deadline that saw the Drewiske blockbuster was a missed PR opportunity if nothing else. MB should have made a splash to let everyone know that hockey is back in MTL.

I wonder what it will take to decide "the future" is here? A 58-6-4 record before the deadline?

Logically, who are they waiting on? The emergence of Nikita Scherbak and Magnus Nygren?

That's what I said, but in way fewer words :-) Sorry for being so blunt LM, but you were not the only one steaming after last night's game. Haha. Loss number 8 to Tampa Bay this year. Between the Habs and the Panthers, I'm really starting to hate this team. Especially since there's no one to really hate. I tried hard last night to build up some animosity during Johnson's post game interview, but I said "whatever, he seems like a nice kid." Tampa is like the guy in high school who kicks your ass in one on one and genuinely says "good game" afterwards. I bet after their win, Coach Coop loaded them into the van for ice cream.

And to be fair, the brand of hockey the Habs played this year sucks. No casual fan should be subjected to a final with this year's MTL in it.
