I guess Brian Burke (Nonis=Burke jr.) and his drooling over the Tyler Biggs or Fred Gauthier types because of size or truculence hasn't done Leafs much good neither.

But Leafs sucking is just plain fun for rest of Canada.

Succumed is an odd word?

Obviously no one questioned those picks. They were top of their class.

Its all the other rounds where you get players to build around your core that the oil have completely sucked at.

The first picks over all are is gimme. Forgone conclusion by draft day. All season long the hockey world discusses, writes about, and decides who is the best player available. Anyone a hockey news magazine can walk up to the mike and pick first over all. A formality by draft day. Its the other picks that require sharp hockey minds ( and a little luck) Two things the oilers have had none of for quite some time.

Absolutely. I remember hearing someplace that the Oilers have about hardly any players on their roster drafted from rounds other than round one. So basically, their drafting has been horrendous apart from the no-brainer top picks. Contrast that with the Habs, who have players, including elite players like Subban, that were chosen in various draft rounds. That would be a big part of Edmonton's problem right there.

The Oilers' situation is a hockey tragedy. Can you imagine being an Edmonton fan? This is what, their fourth consecutive failed rebuild? It's like living through the Houle Habs over and over and over, decade after decade. They must have made a Faustian bargain in return for those 1980s dynasties.

We should create a new reality show.

It's the Oilers Rebuild Show, done the Ground Hog Way, step right up, pay your money and go home sad.

Hell that could work for the laffs as well.

When you have to overpay for free agents and nobody wants to be traded to you, you should be putting all of your money into the draft, as well as favouring local players who love the area.

Maybe I'm wrong on Darnell Nurse but he doesn't seem like the type to want to stay in Edmonton after 25.

Not sure many WHL kids would hate the thought of playing on Oilers. And good prospects would have much better chance of seeing more icetime as a rookie than on a 1/2 decent team.

But for the old mercenary UFAs like a Hossa/Jagr I agree not likely to want to got to Oil or any bottom dwelling/rebuilding team (or a Yemelin likely wouldn't agree to a deal to go there)
