Jan. 27/29, St. John's vs Portland, 7 PM

Week two of this road trip kicks off with the IceCaps (19-14-6-3) travelling to Portland to take on the Pirates (24-15-1-0), affiliate of Florida, for a pair of games. Portland crushed St. John's in a pair of games earlier this month.

Jacob de la Rose should be available after being sent down after Tuesday's game. He'll likely take Jeremy Gregoire's spot in the lineup (though taking Scott's spot would be nicer...).

Lessio - McCarron - Holloway

How's Matheson look? The Cats are really high on him.

I'm only listening to the game (and admittedly only in the background as I'm in the middle of writing the next set of STJ grades - should be up tomorrow) and it's a very IceCaps-centric broadcast so it's hard to tell for this game specifically. In general, he's having a nice rookie season. I'd be curious to see how he handles the second half as his highest workload in terms of GP was back in 2011-12 in the USHL with only 53. Can he avoid the slump that often hits college players?

Hopefully Holloway will be back next game and that forces Scott to the bench. (Although my guess would be that MacMillan comes out; Lefebvre seems to want Eisenschmid in every ngiht.) Scott had a tough night tonight.

Yes, is too bad both 2009 & 2010 1st rounders busted and add that to;

2010 & 2011 no 2nd or 3rd

2009 & 2010 no 2nd

2008 no 1st (gave away for Tanguay)

And cant remember the last time that the Habs have actually traded away a good quality vet for blue chip youngster?

Gregoire was a healthy scratch or is he injured?

Healthy scratch. 3rd time in the last two weeks, all thanks to Scott. If Holloway can't go tomorrow (he skated with a non-contact jersey this week in practice so he should be somewhat close), Gregoire should get back in as Scott should be leaving the team today to head for Nashville.

That's kind of ridiculous. John Scott isn't an every day player in any league.

It'll be interesting to see how Matheson affects Brian Campbell being resigned. Brian McCabe thinks Matheson looks like Duncan Keith (lol) and Ekblad is ready to take over the #1 duties. I would retain him on a Markov type deal, but a lot of fans hate the guy.

At the very least, I think they had to play Scott until the All-Star break. The optics are bad enough as they are, if they were to bench him in the days leading up to the game (and the pending birth of his twins), it could have gotten really ugly really fast. Once this is done, I suspect they'll move him in and out of the lineup more frequently. The two pending recalls after the break will also get Gregoire back into the regular lineup starting next week at least.

Campbell is the victim of his contract. He's making over $7 million so expectations are that should be a high end #1. If they were to retain him on a Markov-type deal, I don't think there would be that much hatred. I also wouldn't pencil Matheson in for a regular roster spot next year - at least not in an ideal scenario. It's his first pro season, most d-men need more than that to be NHL ready.

Didier out-Bennett in?

Pasquale in.

Hudon -Scherbak-Andrighetto shown as line 1 (in the pre-game lineup twitter image anyways), I would think Hudon is playing centre? Scherbak dosent play centre does he?

Gregoire still out.

Holloway is back.
