The 2016 All Star debacle extravaganza will take place this weekend with the Skills Competition on Saturday night and the inter divisional mini games beginning late Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, history will be made as the Habs' AHL team will be proudly represented by John Scott, who will take place in the hardest shot competition plus the shootout. As for the Habs, P.K. Subban will also participate in those two competitions while he's also be in the Breakaway Challenge (more accurately described as the Hot Dog shootout). Bragging rights will surely be on the line...assuming Scott were to ever be recalled.

On Sunday, Montreal fans will be in the unique position of having a rooting interest in both semi-finals as Scott's Pacific Division takes on the Central Division while Subban's Atlantic Division will battle everyone's favourite-named Metropolit(an) Division in a 20 minute 3-on-3 game that surely will be played at a faster pace than recent All Star Games. (Or so the league thinks; little do they know that 3-on-3 can also be played at half speed when there's nothing really on the line...) The winners will then face off in another 3-on-3 mini game for the chance to split a $1 million prize. (And maybe someone still gets a truck, who knows?)

Key Questions for the Weekend:

- Will John Scott actually score a goal?

- Will P.K. Subban infect the rest of his divisional teammates with that virus that had him at well under 100% earlier in the week?

- Will the league misinterpret the increased viewership to see how Scott fares as a sign that all of these changes mean that the All Star Game is on the way up towards actual relevancy? (Sadly, I could see them thinking this...)

The Skills get underway at 7 PM EST on Saturday on CBC. Sportsnet and TVA Sports. The mini-games kick off at 5 PM EST on Sunday on CBC and TVA Sports. NBCSN has coverage in the US.

Hey you've got a good plan there Brian, PK infects all the stars from the other teams and increases our odds of making the playoffs. He better give every body a big kiss and a hug.

I think I will watch the top prospects game again, instead.

13gms till deadline day after this annual gongshow.

Just too bad Scott will miss 2 real games to attend, bailing on his new teammates...

Go IceCaps Go!

"A rooting interest in John Scott's Pacific Division team"

"Will PK infect the rest of his divisional teammates?"

Brian deserves some kind of award for writing such an entertaining intro to the most asinine game of the hockey year. Nice work!!

Subban wasn't bad in the hardest shot competition, both shots over 100 which was good. Scott had a nice spin move in the shootout contest; Subban's second attempt was decent as well but neither scored in two attempts.

And if you enjoyed the skills and want more of it, the AHL has their competition tomorrow. McCarron and Ellis will be Montreal's reps.

I personally think John Scott should play games in the Canadiens uniform. Maybe he could help the PP by being a big body presence in front as a screen to allow Subbans shots to go unseen? His goal production dictates that. C'est la vie

Scott has taken a lot of criticism for being selected by fans, not his fault.

The days of players like him are nearing an end, he knows that.

He handled himself very well in the media over this, and seems to be a nice, grounded, family man, who is just enjoying the ride...

Kudos to him, and hell yeah, why not play him a bit on 4th line in the face of this season's disaster?

I would like to see him punch Chara in the face...just once... after all, that is why he made the NHL, because nobody else could do that job ;)

It's actually pretty fun to watch. Scott gets two, one was a beaut

He's actually shown better hands and finish tonight than anyone on the habs over the past couple of months.

Man, I'm tired of these Country Pop bottle washers.

Country has the same problem the Blues have, nowadays Blues Rock rocks harder than Rock ever did. The music is still quality, but Willie Nelson would be happy for this gig. I think Waylon Jennings is still alive. Zero telewhacking, just pretty people singing pop songs. Sad.

With two goals and one hit, sadly, he has outperformed many Habs over that timeframe. He has earned a call-up as far as I am concerned.

Subban is making the same crap play that he does all the time in Montreal. His teammate (bergeron) has the puck at the blue line and Subban is circling around by him. Get in the friggin open!!!

I'm seriously going to be pissed of MB leaves Scott buried in the AHL after this. Give us SOMETHING to cheer for and feel good about you useless, stand-pat, dumpster-diving ****ing clown of a GM.

If they had any thoughts of calling him up after this, they would have only called one guy up this afternoon instead of two. He's not getting the call.

That was a fun final game, low scoring with some actual backchecking at times. Not bad.

Changing leagues (I'm not doing another GDT), the AHL's Skills Competition is tonight.

McCarron had a good outing in Rapid Fire, scoring 4/5 on Michael Leighton. (All shots are taken from the slot, two players have 20 seconds total to take 5 shots each, alternating along the way.)

Ellis shot 100 and 97 MPH in the Hardest Shot, not too shabby.

Is the shinny over? Bettman's new money making idea. 3 on 3 NHL league, only have to pay half as many players! Way more profit! Higher goal scoring! WIN WIN WIN situation for NHL. Right?

Forget MT and MB, fire Bettman before hockey is no longer the same game.

JOHN SCOTT MVP!!!!!!

What? we're evaluating performance in this side show as a means of determining callups

Do you think the other players weren't desperately trying to get scott goals? Do you think people were playing actual defence against John Scott? Come on man.... its pretty clear what was going on out there. The players have heard the stories, they read the players tribune shit, they felt bad for scott and were gonna make sure he not only didn't get embarrassed, they were gonna make sure he was the star of the show.

None of this changes what type of hockey player John Scott is, and what he can and can't provide.

Asking for a callup based on this is just being ridiculous.
