Palushaj waived, claimed by Colorado

It's a slow news day with no practice so I suppose this is semi-thread worthy. As Palushaj has now fully recovered from his shoulder injury, he had to be waived to return to Hamilton having signed a special AHL-only deal just after the lockout began. He'll also come off the cap tomorrow which also is nice (he has been counting at a partial rate based on his NHL service time from last year).

Before the year, I'd have said there was a good chance he'd be claimed but now I'm not so sure as he has really struggled with the Bulldogs this season.

He's in the final year of his contract, so some team really hurting with injuries may take a chance on him.

Perhaps but better players have passed through unclaimed. I'm hoping he clears, Hamilton needs all the help they can get.

I hope someone picks him up. Palushaj is a bum! Maybe we can trade him for Matt D'Agostini?

Funny you mention D'Agostini who has been a healthy scratch 6 times already this season and wouldn't have a place in the Habs' lineup either (I know they were dealt for each other a few years ago). We'll find out in the next half hour if he clears or not.

Yeah, at least Dagostini was big, and got twelve goals for us one year. We trade him for this "great" prospect...and wait for it! He gets 5 points in 38 games. Go go Gainey!

I don't remember the context of this trade. Why did we do that ?

D'Agostini was a healthy scratch with the Habs and had to go through waivers (and wouldn't have cleared). Palushaj was younger and waiver exempt with seemingly some upside (he was picked right after Subban in 2007) so the Habs got what they could for an player clearly on the outside looking in. It made perfect sense, too bad it didn't work out too well for Montreal.

The trade made perfect sense then, and still makes perfect sense today even if Palushaj is gone.

Not all prospects reach their upside. Any time you turn a player who can't make your roster, and you are likely to lose for free on waivers, into a decent prospect who was a PPG AHL player, and a 2nd round pick, thats a good move. You rolled the dice on Palushaj, and unfortunately it didn't work out... but the risk/reward here says it was a smart move cause Dagostini couldn't crack our lineup anyway.

Its like say your pockets are full, and you can't fit one more coin in there... you trade a loonie for a lottery ticket with a 50/50 chance, payout $2. Its a smart move, cause that Loonie was just gonna get lost in the cushions on the subway anyway.

as a Dogs fan, I thought there was a little light at the end of the tunnel this weekend. It just turned out to be a train. Is that correct then that if the Avalanche try and send him down to Lake Erie, he'd have to go the waiver route again? Could Colorado sign him to a two way? You mention Dags-he was popular in Hamilton as he had a lot of fans from his OHL days in nearby Guelph

ps-I'll miss seeing Aaron's folks at the Copp's-Good People who drove from Michigan for a majority of the home games

For him to be sent to the Monsters, he would have to be re-waived and go unclaimed. As for signing him a two-way contract, two-way deals don't affect waiver eligibility, just salary in the AHL. Palushaj is, in fact, on a two-way contract.

I think Eller can stick in the tip 6 if he got the oppertunity to play with quality players.

I think he can succeed if he gets a chance with real linemates.

I agree. I just don't see who you remove from the top 9 right now. He'll wait patiently for an opportunity (see injury)

I'm not that upset at losing Palushaj as there was no room for him, but just felt last year was the time to see if he had talent and we didnt.

Is it just me, or do Colorado, Vancouver, and New Jersey seem to vacuum up more former Habs than anyone else? It seems to be a pattern over the years and I'd be curious to see if this impression stands up to close analysis.

I was just listening to Dogs broadcaster Derek Wills on Scott Radley's nightly show on CHML. He made it sound like if Colorado try and send Aaron to the AHL within 30 days, the Habs would get him back automatically.

It is true that miklin was listening to Derek Willis on Scott Radley's nightly show on CHML.

On another note, I think Eller on the bottom-3 makes for a potent addition which other teams have to be wary of. With White in there, it's a bang-bang line. Good against the Bruins and other big boys. Vs most other teams, I'd rather have Eller there who can add a little skill and support the top-9 when necessary. Eller is far, far more likely to produce.
