Habs acquire Dustin Tokarski

This looks like an absolute steal for the habs. Desjardins was going nowhere with the Habs. Do Tampa believe their goaltending is that good? I'd like to see the kid brought up for a game or 2 to see how he does. He may be that young goalie I was talking about to back up Price. :):habslogo:

The only position Tampa looks good in is goaltender depth. Yzerman said he wanted a goalie he could trust to play in the NHL if one of his platoon went down. Vasilevskiy is one of the best goalie prospects in the NHL and Janus is younger. I guess Tampa doesn't like Tokarski's goaltending style is a big reason they gave up on him. Julien Brisebois has always been a fan of Desjardins so that's why he's back in Tampa.

Having an AHL veteran also makes sense from the standpoint of simply calling him up to sit on the bench as backup. If one of Garon/Lindback goes down, they'd be more comfortable calling Desjardins up and sitting him over Helenius/Tokarski who would benefit more from the AHL minutes. From the Habs' standpoint, Tokarski is an actual goalie prospect which can't be said for Mayer or Delmas.

While doing the required stuff on the site every time there's a trade, I came across a rather detailed read about Tokarski, one with a quite a positive review. It's a bit lengthy for a goalie with just 7 NHL games under his belt but it's worth a look: http://thegoalieguild.com/wp-content/uploads/releases/tokarski_dustin.pdf

I like this move, if they're looking at him as a soon to be legit backup option for Carey.

If we can't have a vet, who is near the tail end, no delusions of a starting gig, then

I'd rather have a younger guy, knows his place behind an established star, making good on his NHL opportunity.

Nothing against Budaj personally, but he's too much a tweener for me.

Not a starter on a contender, a platoon guy on a mediocre team, or in this case, an inconsistent backup on a question mark team.

I also like that he'd be more towards Carey's age range/peer group.

Dryden had Bunny, Roy had Hayward, let's see if this kid can be something like that with Price.

After I saw this clip, at the 2:50 mark, I immediately liked him.

actually he was 17 wins 5 losses and 1 tie sounds like a good record untill you see the .881 sv % and the 3.39 gaa. The team was a little different then. Budaj wont play 20 more games for the habs. Nor will he win 17. its a different team. :habslogo:

Sick but Budaj will have to get some starts between now and the end of the year even when Price is healthy.

Budaj, should only start in back to back situations, but even then, it should be at around a 1 in 8 game ratio.
