Habs invite 44 players to rookie camp

Considering the reported attitude problems Beaulieu has had his entire career, I don't see it as all that surprising that they want him under constant watch and training on how to be a professional hockey player.

Sekac is on the list, too.

Edit: As is Dylan Corson. Which is just great for that kid. He's 20 and, while a big part of the Barrie Colts, went undrafted. Out of respect for his dad (I always loved Shayne), I hope this gets Dylan's hockey career moving again.

Beaulieu with the problems? "Considering the reported attitude problems Beaulieu has had his entire career

It happened at a bar with his Dad, unless someone was there to hear the other person comments, I didn't see him with any problems playing in the playoffs.

He's got an edge and will be tons better playing against better talent. He'll be playing with the HABS come the fall.

There have been a few incidents, two of which involved him and his old man.

Interesting to see that Beaulieu was invited to the development camp next week but Tinordi wasn't..?

I guess you can pencil Jarred into the lineup for 2014-15.

Two prospects last year were left off the invite list in Kristo and Lefebvre. Both were dealt shortly thereafter. I'm not suggesting this is the case here but it's worth keeping in mind.

He was a big part of the Colts? He never played in the top six and was dealt for a guy who was about to be waived (Pastorious) and a 15th rounder. He was a spare part at best that they wasted a fairly high pick to acquire. If his last name isn't Corson, he wouldn't be at this camp, that's for sure.

Some invites that are interesting:

Phillipe Gadoury (he was discussed a bit in the prospects subforum already, good scorer late in the year in the Q)

Pavlo Padakin (strong second season in the WHL...and he's Ukrainian)

Evan Wardley (physical stay-at-home blueliner)

These three are all 20 and could possibly step in and play minor pro (Hamilton/Wheeling) right away.

Also his lackadaisical attitude toward playing in Hamilton during the Olympics and other behavioral issues that would have run rampant if this was still the Gainey Era...

There was also the under-reported stuff at his first training camp that saw Gionta have a long sit-down with Beaulieu. It eventually led to him removing 'N8theGr8' from his social media accounts...and his sticks. It was alleged at the time that Beaulieu was, let's say, a tad too cocky and needed his ego knocked down several pegs.

Beaulieu is talented, no doubt about it. His skating is fluid and his passes are always on the mark. If he's cocky, good for him as long as he delivers.

Funny why Tinner was omitted from the list, is there a way to find out if there was a typo.

There's no reason for him not to be there unless he's sidelined with an injury..

Tinordi not there because he is a man with his head screwed on right and needs no hand-holding or extra coaching in summer school.

Just train hard big-man!, getting quicker & stronger is all he needs to work on.

(Pateryn also not there)

Am curious how 6'3" 218lb Didier will stack up at camp?

guys I'll keep an eye on:

- Justin Agosta (good size, right handed D, going to Quinnipac next year)

- Dan Federico (good size, left handed D, probably going to be Agosta's pairing partner as captain of Quinnipac)

- Philippe Gadoury (excellent speed and skill, played with Drouin and they each made each other better. Took an injury and came back fine)

- Bokondji Imama (very good scrapper, favourited my tweet saying I hope he made it to the Habs just for his name)

- Matt Schmalz (huge ginger kid, 6'5", actually a very good skater for his size, has no hands or at least hasn't shown hands yet after being a 12th overall OHL pick)

- Nick Sorkin (signed to a PTO with Bulldogs then Montreal gave him a two year contract. I've heard some people really like him in the organization)

I really hope the Habs sign one of these kids. I live 5 min from Quinnipiac and would love to be able to watch some of our prospects play.

He's not signed by Montreal. Otherwise, he'd be on their reserve list and on the invite list as a free agent signing. It appears he may be signed to Hamilton again this season (though the press release when he signed never said so) but he's not officially a Montreal prospect.

Hmmm, Skipjacks were saying he signed a two year deal with Montreal not just a PTO. They must have been mixed up.

They're the only ones who said it was two years that I know of. Everything else was a one year PTO with Hamilton. The Habs never have posted anything about Sorkin's status short of him attending this camp.

Add Stefano Momesso to the invite list.

The Habs issued a revised list of players heights/weights. While that list hasn't been made public yet, some reporters have tweeted a few of the notables:

Sekac: 6'2, 182 lbs

Scherbak: 6'1, 189 lbs

de la Rose: 6'3, 203 lbs

Great to see that de la Rose has bulked up. He's my sleeper for the coming year. I think he's got a good chance to break camp with the big club.

I think there's a chance but he was primarily a LW last year and that's the spot where the Habs have an awful lot of depth already. For him to make the opening night lineup, he'd have to supplant probably a couple of veterans. I see him starting in the minors and getting a brief look later in the year.

Brian Wylde from CTV news was on TSN 690 tonight, and he said that Sherbak was closer to 6'2" and weighed in at about 195pds. Nice to see a guy actually being bigger than his listed height! Plus the kid skated like the wind!

Not that all important, but Beaulieu is still quite slight, whereas Dietz/Thrower must of been eating well during rehab of injuries.

And Bennett said he was 200, but as long as he can still skate as quick as ever, he will never be asked to be a physical defensive specialist.

McCarron certainly isn't shrinking neither, 241lb is a load.

McCarron is really impressive. I am quite sure that he is the kind of athlete who will profit enormously (!) from playing with the bests in his sport. Let's be patient and he should blossom. He is already a good skater for his size and he certainly won't shy away from the physical part of the game. Playing in the minors will help him develop his hockey sense and abilities. He could be become quite a presence on the ice.
