Bourque on waivers!

A player with that size and playoff performance will get a look, I think. It's not inconceivable that some dolt takes the bait.

I'm guessing a non-playoff team will take him and then trade him to a playoff team with as much of his cap hit held back as possible. I think that's what Montreal was originally going to do but they just couldn't have him sitting around wasting space for any longer.

Could be.

This also explains why they were dressing him over Sekac. Trying to drum up interest on the trade market.

Once again, MB shows himself a ruthless, cold-eye operator happy to throw anyone overpaid or under-performing on the scrap pile. I love it.

Well I would also think that there is absolutely no market for Dork out there. Couldn't get a 5th or 6th round pick?

I think most NHL teams see a trade for Rene Bourque for a draft pick as doing Montreal a favour (getting $3.3M off their cap) and giving them a draft pick (which even at fifth could turn into Brendan Gallagher under Timmin's hands). The only way you win is if Bourque suddenly scores a bunch of goals for you, but even back in Calgary he was often targeted for being an inconsistent player.

He has no trade value at all now (teams no Montreal would risk gettin nothing by putting him on waivers). But this must also mean bergevin looked at his trade options already and got no interest. Would anyone here be willing to absorb some of his contract to ship him out? Say 1.33 mill

That's a lot of money being retained for a non-playoff team for what would amount to a low draft pick (Bourque at 50% retained doesn't carry massive value).

I think this is the order that Bergevin is following:

1) Try to trade him with no salary retention (that didn't happen)

2) Waive him in the hopes of him getting claimed - if not, send him to Hamilton and save a pro-rated $925,000 on the cap (I suspect he clears)

3) Try to trade him with salary retention at or below the $925,000 threshold

4) Try to trade him with salary retention at or below the buyout cost for next season

Imagine how much Bourque is going to dog it in Hamilton?

He started his tenure with the Habs serving a suspension and ended it on waivers. What a loser.

The mystery of why Drayson Bowman was up is solved.

I can't wait to see Habs29retired's post.

The start and end of Bourque's career as a hab, really shows what an idiot PG was!

Great move. by MB. Open's up a roster spot and gets rid of probably the most laziest piece of crap in the league. Don't want to EVER see him in a habs uniform again. The habs still need to pick up another scorer, i wish we could have tried to make a move where we could package Bouruqe with a prospect to get the whole cap hit of dork of the books..

The targets go in order:

- Desharnais

- Moen

- Eller

I'd put Moen as #2. Too much money for a slow 4th liner.
