ICEWATER77
It appears that our top line will rival any other. I'll go out on a limb here and predict that there could be career seasons in store for all 3..but will they stay intact? Gallagher has been effective in the #1 rw spot and everyone has Galchenyuk penned in as the next #1 c; it's a tough call. Whether or not first line stays together remains to be seen. MT does shuffle the deck more often than Casino de Montreal! Several players may factor into the equation as well. The trio has looked great though. Anyhow, WELCOME TO MTL, PARENTEAU! Meller93
Hilarious how we got him for Briere. Bergevin is starting to pile up a few trades like that. Cole for Ryder also comes to mind (we got a third pick in that too) I'm stupidly excited for this season, and it's not even because I think we're necessarily going to improve our record. I think the team actually is better than starting day last year though, whether the record shows it at the end or not. I think what has me most excited is the real feeling of the young core finally stepping up more. I will be rotted if one of bealieu Tinordi or Pateryn isn't a fixture on the blueline. As for P.A saving dd, yes I think were about to see a 60-65 point season from him, and patches will challenge 40 goals again
ICEWATER77
Right?! and if that wasn't ridiculous enough, we got a draft pick too!
Jeff Price (no relation)
I don't think DD's spot on the "top line" is in danger. It could be that our designation of "top line" could be in danger, but ultimately, MT will play whoever has the best chemistry with Patches on a line with Patches. Nobody on the Habs is any threat to that chemistry at the moment. Now, if Eller (ha!) or Galchenyuk step up as legitimate #1 centers, we could start perceiving them as our #1 line (considering we appear to give comparable ice time to three lines and significant ice time to a fourth), but DD will still get just as much ice time and still center Pacioretty. Machine of Loving Grace
Right?! and if that wasn't ridiculous enough, we got a draft pick too! I don't know the frig Bergevin convinces these teams to just toss in picks. "Cole has been terrible for us so far and doesn't really want to stay. What do you have, Dallas?" "Oh, we got a potential 30 goal winger who is going to be an unrestricted free agent and our fanbase thinks we can get a low first rounder for him." "Sounds good. Except we won't make the deal without a third round pick added." "Oh, uh, okay." It's crazy how little Colorado valued Parenteau. Parenteau ranks 55th in offensive production since 2010. That's better than Paul Stastny in the same amount of games. Better than Plekanec in less games. Better than Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Marian Gaborik, Ryan Kesler, I could keep going. The Avalanche were an awful puck possession team and got rid of one of the only guys that was at least average in that department. Yet Roy didn't like him for whatever reason, pushed him down to the third line and the team was desperate to get out of his two year deal. Enough to trade for Danny Briere at the same price but just one year. And then toss in a fifth round pick because reasons! What Trevor Timmins does with fifth round draft picks: - Daniel Audette (2014) - Charlie Hudon (2012) - Darren Dietz (2011) - Brendan Gallagher (2010) - Gabe Dumont (2009) I have a good feeling this could be his best trade so far. Commandant
There is no rule that says your best centre has to play with your best wingers. Lets imagine this scenario.... Patch - DD - Parenteau have a great season AND Galchenyuk develops into a legit #1 centre. Why not keep the PDP line together and find another winger for Galchenyuk to create a second scoring line. With PDP only costing 12.5 million against the cap, they are paid like a second line. If they give us first line production, great for us....Gallagher has some chemistry with Galchenyuk, so those two can play together and then you just have to find them a left wing... perhaps another trade deadline move. Plekanec then anchors a two-way line that plays against the other team's best. With the fact we were such a low scoring team last year, that would be ideal. Of course the problem is still that we have four centres, but I've been saying eller should move to LW for a while now.Eller - Galchenyuk - Gallagher could be tried until that deadline move is made.Bourque - Plekanec - Sekac would be the two way line (and hey remember Plekanec had a good defensive line with Cammalleri and AKost). If necessary you can probably move eller to this line if it needs help defensively at some point. The thing is that Bourque probably needs to go at some point to make contract room for Galchenyuk's new winger before the 2015-16 season
Machine of Loving Grace
I'm in the same mindset. When people threw fits about the EGG line being broken up and Patches-DD being re-united, they ignored that Gallagher was the only guy moved off. If PDP ends up the top line, that allows for EGG to reunite and attempt to be a top line. That said, I don't think Galchenyuk is ready for top six center obligations and they will likely go with Galchenyuk - Plekanec - Gallagher instead. Jeff Price (no relation)
Bourque ... needs to go. Barring some miraculous continuation of his playoff performance into the regular season of this year, I think this is all that really needs to be said. KoRP
I wouldn't even put Galchenyuk at centre until he puts up solid numbers on the wing. Me neither, we are deep at center so why hurry it? I just want him to play the optimum minutes and have ample opportunity to put up some points, whatever position he plays. Also, until we find out how deep we are at wing, we may just need him there the most.

He was one of the most productive players in the league in the last 2/3 of the season. He also has one of the best along the boards results statistically of any Hab. I am not sure many realize just how many battles he wins along the boards. he does it his way and comes away with the puck more often than not. And he is not weak defensively like many think. He needs zero help, nor does he need saving.

The thing is that Bourque probably needs to go at some point to make contract room for Galchenyuk's new winger before the 2015-16 season Good post. I could live with all that. But I do expect some sort of trade deadline deals of risk and significance this year. Like last year. And Moen and Bourque could figure into that equation. perhaps Bourque gives us his worth this year. That would be fantastic. Pleks can help him play consistent hockey, as he shows up every shift. That would be good. Sekac along side would be nice. But so would Prust, quite possibly the best two way winger on the team. If we want them to be a shut down type line, I'd like Lars and Prust on the wing with Pleks at Centre. Chucky with Galls and Bourque could look nice with sheltered minutes. I think this line will need sheltered mintues this year. I don't think the line of Patches-DD-Parenteau needs sheltered minutes. All are now undervalued defensively imo. Patches gets penalty kill minutes now, DD is already a good two player and Parenteau is underestimated imo. In short, its about Sekac versus Bourque imo. Lars to the wing is a must if we keep Chucky at centre, which I suspect is going to happen. And Malholtra is the 4th line Centre now. I don't see that changing. I just can't help but see Lars as a winger. He can bang very nicely now and he is strong skating along the boards, and his passing and vision are not adequate enuf to be anything else other than 3rd line at best at Centre. If it's about maximizing potential. Lars needs to be a winger and Chucky a Centre. Edited September 29, 2014 by dreegking
