  1. Catton, I have seen him play twice. He reminds me of Joe Sakic. And has speed. He looks up to Jack Hughes style of game. Interesting option , he ' should ' be available when Habs select. Very skilled. Here is a mock draft as of now, having him going to Canadiens at 6. Lindstrom has been my preference depending on final draft order. Of course wishful thinking is a Lottery win 😍
  2. yep, all indications ..ACL tear .. he is out for the season.. even with an Allograft using a cadaver Achilles tendon to replace ( procedure I had done by DR. Reid , at the time the Oilers Orthopedic surgeon) it's minimum 6 to 8 months. Very unfortunate. If there is cartilage issues that complicates it. MCL , depending if 2nd or 3rd degree , doesn't require surgery and it's 6 to 8 weeks. ACL is major. Here is to speedy recovery and back for the 2024/25 season ( if it's a total tear of the ACL )
  3. Unless Hughes goes somewhat outside of the consensus top 5. 3 to 5 would be : Michkov, Carlsson, and Smith depending where Columbus is going with ( Leo Carlsson is the only one of the 3 on the World Championship men's team , so he does well, I think they pick him ) That leaves Smith and Michkov.. keep thinking the Sharks grab him Matvei.. Although Grier son did play with Will Smith.. that's the wildcard. Michkov or Smith ..whomever San Jose picks , Habs grab the other that's how I see it.. unless if Michkov is at 5, and Bobrov has Intel not to take Matvei. Then who do Habs take at 5? Hmmm that will be interesting ( 6 to 10 are interchangeable, trade down and grab another draft pick plus one in 6 to 10 pick )?
  4. plus Nick Bobrov, was a scout for SKA St. Petersburg, and his father is a consultant for the team. surely they have intel on the whole situation. they should be in a good situation under the limited live scouting to rely on Nick Bobrov dad to get some ' inside details ' good or bad
  5. ONE BALL away.. luck of the draw So close but so far : ".... The winning combination and the Chicago Blackhawks? Here it is: 4-5-9-13 While the Montreal Canadiens had the following combination: 4-5-9-11 So it came down to the fourth ball of the frame, and the Montreal Canadiens were in the race until the very end. Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton had hope until the end, but in the end, the #13 ball came out, not the #11...." https://www.habsfanatics.com/Major-Development-NHL-announces-that-Kent-Hughes-and-the-CH-were-one-ball-away-from-winning-Connor-Bedard-234799
  6. For lack of starting another thread on drafts. Curious : ( Lane Hutson especially ) 2022 redraft from Instagram post cool getting Hutson in later round. And he appears to have grown an inch or 2.
  7. Yep And seperation of top 4 and 5th ( 8 / 9 pts ) Now at 5: Will Smith ? ( Assuming someone will grab Michkov in top 4) Suzuki Smith Dach ( Not bad top 3 C , within same age grp )
  8. The not talked about discussion: https://instagram.com/aleksandrovechkinofficial Ovi with Putin on profile photo. Ovi chasing Gretzky of Ukrainian heritage https://www.essentiallysports.com/us-sports-news-ice-hockey-nhl-news-really-touching-for-me-emotional-wayne-gretzky-explains-the-ukrainian-influence-on-his-family-in-a-resurfaced-video/ Now fast FWD: Ovi beating Gretzky. Russian beating Ukrainian .. Ovi with Putin on his IG And all the Propaganda going with this for Russia on this. Just saying. We have Freedoms. And this has never been brought up. Yet with Freedoms The NHL has their own bylaws of conduct. Sure Ovi has the right to post as he wishes. But there should be sensibility here. Obvious he is using his freedom to his advantage which may assume protecting his family. BUT what if... The above him chasing a Ukrainian heritage player record 🤔🤔 Just saying...
  9. Another deadline and trades. And whom is better off we will know at playoff time and near future. Ottawa was creative. Getting Jakob Chychrun and if they reach the ECF ( played the odds. Small chance ) than they pay premium they don't mind. They get to a place they wouldn't expect. They don't make it. The compensation is less and really a decent deal for them. A more ranked team would have to dish out more. Kudos to Ottawa on this trade and sort of what I was getting at. To go beyond and think outside and look at a good future deal for them. MTL with the injuries was the expected outcome.
  10. Thus the strength of your scouts and management team. And Obvious if a risk taker and be creative or sit on comfort and ' hope ' for safe picking. All drafts is an element of uncertainty , but driven by optics, objective raw facts, scouting strength. That's what we call that " intangible " From teaching at University , I would tell my students : 1. Market differentiation 2. First to Market differentiation really no different. want to be " cookie cutter " and stick with the basics or be " outstanding " be different and drive to become a champion. even at best of times with scouting it's randomness and luck. But as the cliche says . Well you know. that's the point. Let's build a lasting legacy, as Gorton and Hughes preaches. SO DO IT! Right 👍
  11. The zest of this post. Was simply to present an alternative and be creative. Just like Ben Chiarot Florida first pick in 2023 last year instead of a 2022 first pick of year of trade. As more GM's are hesitant to give up this year's first. Perhaps as an example a first say in 2028 ( a reference point, any future year ).. are they more likely to give up that year first than now, the 2023 pick. Example Holland with Oilers on record has said he won't give up this year's first ( I live in Edmonton ). But would a future year first make any difference.. Of course the Pollock era can't be replicated but thinking like there is NO BOX can be applied in any year. By just being a little different. ( Example we see now, Dubas trading his 2025 first pick in the Maple Leafs recent trade as one example...Or Hughes in the Flames trade that could land 2025 or whatever other in the extensive choice trade with Flames )
  12. Now let's learn from the past and apply to present and future. Molson, Gorton, Hughes Now we all hear about trading for 2023 picks.. let's get creative like Sam Pollock , he traded to potentially get Gretzky year pick 1980...Wickenheiser ( if wasn't for WHA, and Skalbania/Pocklington off private deal via Houston and Winnipeg... Gretzky would have been a Habs ..possibly....,🤔) So now I hear 2025 is a deep year also.. And one example of many , but let's project goalie need and a Quebec potential ( still early and of all positions goalie )..using it as example moreso to project out , Habs are in position to set themselves up for next decade by trading for not now..but Future years picks Like this example: 2025 https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-prospects-gabriel-daigle-elite-goalie-2025-draft/ So Gorton, Hughes can be the 21st century Pollock.. so don't just look at 2023 picks but beyond....
  13. I have been pondering all summer on the DACH move. and keep asking myself, why? ( on mulitple fronts...WHY ? Do Hughes and Gorton know something? Or is it wishful thinking, A Big C, young, to justify not picking a C ( WRIGHT) at the draft and getting Slafkovsky.. Dach, hasnt shown any JR, or early offensive potential pre or post his draft year? and Chicago too eager to pawn him off.. NOW, this is curious to me, either Hughes is a genius, or its a gample and wishful thinking. Now , suppose, fine Romanov still is trade.. BUT KEEP THE 13th pick.. get JS and are the habs better off with ; 1. JS and a center prospect taken 13th like one of the ones available like NAZAR? OR 2. HABS TAKE WRIGHT, as their C, and then take a winger like KEMELL or even MIROSHNICHENKO? Wright and Kemell instead of SLAFKOVSKY and DACH yes depends on DACH, and if was better to go with Wright.. soon we will find out over next 2 to 3 years. But the trade for DACH, is curious WIshful thinking gamble, ( as there doesnt appear to be any history showing Dach's potential ..) or Hughes knows more than most...hmmmm?
  14. I too live in Edmonton. Go talk to the staff at the JW Marriott, and what was happening during the bubble? Kids will be kids, and we all mature. Even the slightest of error in judgment. ( Nothing illegal or anything serious..) but perhaps nothing more than immaturity from his home town and close to family with good intentions. I am talking about Maturity level and whether that player has matured and evolved .. Talking character here. Discipline and focus where off ice maturity translates to on ice leadership and respect.
  15. Hope Hughes did his due diligence on Dach.. Living In Edmonton , and Kirby from Sherwood Park.. We have to ask why did Chicago so readily trade Dach? Or simply the trade worked to their advantage and rebuild. But why trade a 21 year old.. Character? Off ice incident.. maybe a certain time when a player is willing to circumvent the rules during a certain Bubble year during playoffs in Edmonton, ? Perhaps was an 18 year old error in judgement and the team officials sat down with him. Maturity, injuries .. talk about potential? The age old term for athletes ... I don't know. Chicago stayed at the JW Marriott in a city where the staff at the hotel talk. Young kids mature. Afterall people make mistakes. Nothing major at all here. Just saying a reflection of one's character .. Hope Habs did their due diligence and the kid excels . But Montreal is not a city to continue to make bad decisions off the ice. He is seen as a 2 way player, 200 ft game, sounds similar to Wright. It appears Hughes had a plan. What if? Could have? Should have? Time will tell.. good night all.
