Recommended Posts

http://www.nhl.com/ice/schedulebyseason.htm?season=20142015&gameType=2&team=MTL&network=&venue=

Some interesting details I can glean from it:

Longest Home stand: December 9-20 (Vancouver/Los Angeles/Carolina/Anaheim/Ottawa)

Longest Road stand: December 23-January 3 (Long Island/Carolina/Florida/New Jersey/Pittsburgh) Yes the longest home and road stretches are back to back.

Month dominated by Home games: February (9 home games to 5. From Jan 31 to Feb 14 it's all home games with one game against Boston to break it up)

Month dominated by Road games: March (9 road games to 6. Coupled with April which includes 4 road games and 2 home games)

Hardest stretch based on last years best teams: October 16-25 (Boston/Colorado/Detroit/NYR)

Easiest stretch based on last years worst teams: October 27-Nov 2 (Edmonton/Calgary/Vancouver/Calgary)

Most relaxing period: Three day break between December 6 and December 9, followed by two day break between Dec 9 and Dec 12, followed by four day break between December 12 and Dec 16.

Busiest period: November 11 and November 23. 15-16 and 22-23 are back to back games. No more than a one day break during the stretch. The team will also do a weird home game against Philly, go on the road the next day against Detroit then go right back home to face Pittsburgh.

Back to back sets: 18 (17 road games to 1 home game)

Sunday afternoon games: 2

Sportsnet Games: 8 (Toronto, Colorado, Buffalo, Boston, Minnesota, Columbus, Boston, Ottawa)

City TV Games: 5 (Philly, NYR, Calgary, Detroit, NYR, Phoenix

CBC: Hockey Night In Canada Games: 18 (Minnesota, Philly, Boston, Buffalo, Dallas, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, NYI, NJ, Toronto, Columbus, Toronto, Phoenix, NYI, San Jose, Florida, Toronto)

Western Conference Games Pre All-Star Break: 17

Western Conference Games Post All-Star Break: 11

Latest Team we finish with in division: Tampa Bay (Jan 6, Mar 10, Mar 16, Mar 30, Apr 7)

Earliest Team we finish with in division: Buffalo (Nov 5, Nov 28, Nov 29, Feb 3) and Boston (Oct 16, Nov 13, Nov 22, Feb 8)

Teams we play five times: Tampa and Florida

No surprise that the long road trip is around Christmas. Montreal is hosting the World Juniors so they're going to be booted out of the arena for a while around the holidays. It'll be an even longer one in two years when Montreal hosts the medal round.

I miss all the games we use to play with the bruins. 8 times a year , plus the playoffs were almost a given that we would meet.

They are once again. You have to play out of your division to make it to the Conference finals now. Only way we don't meet the Bruins is if they get bounced or one of our teams are the wildcard.

Ughh. Forgot about rds. How am I gonna get my Hab on next year. I need every game.

RDS should have about 60 regular season games next year. TVA sports will have week-end games as well as the playoffs.

I am really gonna miss being able to get an English feed from Canada for every game. This may have been mentioned elsewhere, but is the league going to continue regarding RDS as a national feed, blacking out every game on Center Ice and GameCube Live? That would be nuts if we in the States could watch more games than many Canadians.

So are these all national telecasts for Montreal games??? Are the Sportsnet games national??? In alberta, with Shaw, I only get Sportsnet West and one other sports net channel and I'm not sure about citytv.

Will the RDS games still be available outside of Quebec?? Is shelling out NHL centre ice the only option to get all habs games now??

Sportsnet/City/CBC games are national in English. TVA games (Saturdays) are national in French. Everything else is Quebec viewing region only, English or French.

Apparently there is no English regional package as both TSN and Sportsnet passed on it for financial reasons. That hurts.

So, Center Ice package will give a fan all the Habs games? I've had RDS for years, don't mind watching in French at all, but it's gonna suck not to be assured of the ability of watching all 82....

Get TVA Sports... ;)

So to be assured all games one needs to shell out for CentreIce, RDS & TVA? Is that how it will be?

CentreIce had many Hab games, but none when CBC had em on Saturdays.

Just RDS and TVA Sports (as opposed to just TVA) will get you 82 games in French.

That covers Saturday nights only.

For English games, you'll need Sportsnet (+ City/CBC which are in a basic package on I'd imagine all carriers) plus Centre Ice (where you'll get the opposition feed as there is no more TSN Habs). For French ones (in the Quebec viewing region), TVA Sports/RDS will suffice.

But that's only if you are in Quebec right?

Correct. The only people country-wide that will be able to view all 82 games in French are those in the Quebec viewing region. All others can only get the Saturday TVA games en français.

not to be a sticky wicket but there are a couple of other options that we can't discuss on here. It involves watching on your computer. ;)

Gotcha, habsrule. But as for TV feeds...

I hate to beat a dead horse, but being a thick sort, I'm still a touch confusticated about what to do as a guy living in Vancouver vis-à-vis the Habs. Sportsnet will carry 32 regular-season games. OK. RDS will have its games blacked out, so I cancel my subscription to that; got it. TVA is pointless because they'll only have the Saturday games, which, if I understand correctly, Sportsnet will also have. Right-o.

So. If I get NHL Centre Ice, am I at least more or less assured of seeing MOST Habs' games on TV, as an out-of-region Habs fan? I don't need to see all 82, but access to, say, 70 would be nice. And what does Centre Ice cost?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Most games, yes, you should get them (unless the game isn't televised by the opposing team...and that still happens the odd time). They will, however, be the opposition feed as the Habs don't have a regional broadcaster this year. As for cost, you're probably looking at around $200.

If you get centre ice from your cable provider, do you also get access to to centre ice on on internet?

I've had Centre Ice for years. The music during intermissions and after the game drives my gf crazy. I've been known to turn the TV on Centre Ice before I leave the house when she's upstairs taking a nap.

They do need to upgrade the HD options, along with doing something different during commercials than the same music ad nauseum.

For the record, there are no 'musical interludes' on the Canadian Centre Ice. (I've watched the free preview the last couple of years so I have a little bit of experience with the Canadian feed.) Up here, we get the intermission reports and sometimes even a pregame show from the local feed. When there's no game, there's no music, just a black screen.

dlbalr, you just radiate knowledge of all things Habs. Thanks for that.

$200...hoo boy, that's pretty steep. As usual, the consumer is screwed while the big boys write themselves fat bonuses.

You're really missing out.

I imagine this is the music Bettman cues up when he screws his wife.
