The qualifying offers are in. Nattinen stays in the organization despite having already signed in Sweden while Ryan White has been let go. Will they try to sign him for below his QO? I doubt it.

Poor White. Love the guy

I hate to see White go. I'm sure he will be get a chance with at lest 75% of the teams in the league. I hate the thought of him going to the Bruins or Leafs. He's a blood and guts guy and my preference would have been to move/waive Moen, over letting White go.

Oh thank gawd. No more White. Another player some fans seem to love but who adds very, very little to the team. That he's no longer here indicates we're another step up the ladder. One run further from Lind and Witehall.

If 22 teams all want White as you suggest, don't you think they'd have traded him? There are a lot of Ryan White-type players in free agency, he's not some sort of unique player that everyone's going to want.

That's what people were saying about Higgins. Whit doesn't have his talent, but at under $1m, you can be the is going to pretty much choose his next team. Like I've said, I'll take him over Moen any day and considering Prusts salary, I'd choose white. At the same stage of development and age, Prust wasn't too far ahead of where White us now.

We'll have to disagree there. A player with 5 career goals in 141 career games that isn't that good at any particular element (decent at best on faceoffs, hits a bit, can't log big PK minutes which are important fourth line attributes) shouldn't, in my opinion, have too many suitors. I expect he'll be a free agent for a while before getting signed.

Ryan white has always been one of my favorite players for the habs since he came up. However, a change in scenery will do him good. If it was 5 vs 5 all the time I would take White over Moen in a second, but white is not nearly the penalty killer that Moen is and that tips the scales. Moen is also a better fighter, imo. White has a place in the NHL, just no room for him on the habs.

I was never comfortable when Ryan White was on the ice. To be worth his spot on the roster, a player either needs to have some offensive upside, or be extremely dependable defensively. (Both at once is better, of course.) White contributed nothing to the offense, and wasn't the guy I wanted on the ice to shut down the other team, either. All he ever seemed to do is take penalties. Moen might actually have more offensive upside than White (if not in total numbers, at least in the relevance of the goals he occasionally scores, most of which seem to be game winners), in addition to his top-notch penalty killing.

Why does everyone hate Moen this much?! Is he doomed for a tearful exit like Gorges? "Sniffle...I told Gally I wasn't going to do this."

Seriously. As a 4th liner with size and experience who also kills penalties, what more do people want?

Looking forward to:

Moen - Weise - Prust

.. next year as our 4th line.

There are several people here that undervalue defensive play. Guys like Gorges and Moen are essential to a team's success. Every Stanley Cup winner ever has had guys just like that. Ideally, you also get guys like Plekanec -- a poor man's Guy Carboneau, getting points AND shutting them down. But those are very few and far between. Treasure your defensive specialists. A penalty-kill specialist who gets 10 points a year tops is far more important to your success than a second line power play guy who gets 40. A guy like Moen can prevent more goals from being scored against you than a guy like Pacioretty is going to score for you. In the end, you need both types of guys to win.

Yeah I like Ryan's guts and enthusiasm but dlbair is right again. (dammit)

A couple of years ago, Moen had 9 goals early in the season, he was flying! Then came his first injury with the Habs, a shoulder or a concussion, I forget which. He never got on track again really, but when he is in the lineup, he contributes, especially in keeping the puck out of our end. Hopefully he has had time to get healthy, and has a good season health wise, if Gionta is not resigned, then Moen is going to play a huge role as a bottom 6 guy for the Habs.

I think there are some that terribly over estimate how difficult it will be to replace Gorges, he's always been a #5 or 6 guy, heart and soul, but not that hard to replace IMO. In that 5 or 6 spot, he would be hard to replace, but we are trying to improve our top 4, and he was never adequate for that spot. His character and work ethic will no doubt be hard to replace, but the new regime in management doesn't see him as essential, and I'm with them. Good luck to Josh wherever he ends up!

I liked White's personality, his hustle, but there just seems to be something about him and his consistency, that he would never be an every game player with us. When Weise was first brought in, White scored a goal in consecutive games, and I thought maybe MT was going to use him more, but alas, back to the dog house.... I hope he does well wherever he goes.....and I hope he finally wins a fight!

Always liked White, saw lots of Hitman games when he played junior and thought he might be a fine NHLer.

But always seemed to shoot himself in foot with dumb penalties and just never gained trust of any coaches.

Well low % of 3rd round picks make it and guess he is in majority who don't.

I imagine someone will offer 2 way deal to him.

I agree that Gorges will be hard to replace, and I'll admit I'm a little surprised to see Bergevin dealing so cavalierly with him. Treating your heart and soul, and defensive-zone stabilizer, as a salary dump perhaps speaks to the same nickel-and-diming mentality that caused him to remorselessly squeeze Subban on his last contract. But without knowing, first, what he had or has coming back for Gorges, and second, what his plan is to replace Gorges - it better not be Tinordi or Beaulieu - it's hard to assess this whole issue.

On White, I'd feel better about dumping him if I thought Therrien had ever given him a chance. Or rather, Therrien did give him chances last year and White made a fool of himself; but it would be interesting to see of White could have learned from that. He never got the chance to make amends. In any case, he probably won't amount to a whole lot as an NHLer, but it would not surprise me to see him come out and injure a Hab or two somewhere down the line in the one game of the year in which he makes an impact. That's just how these things seem to go... :bonk:

i just hope White doesn't end up with Toronto, Boston or Philly!!!

i also liked White, but I think Prust, Weise and moen are ahead of him for spots on the 4th line!

Sucks to see him go, but I think this is the right thing to do!

It's a minor point, but I'd note that both Moen and Prust are broken-down, back-9-of-their-career players. We may end up missing White sooner than we think.

Right around the time you get to missing White is when Connor Crisp will be up with the team making you forget all about White all over again.

White was a good energy player, but its exactly like you say, his role is easily filled

It's going to be really annoying playing Ryan White in a Flyers jersey.

Nice guess.

It took White the better part of 38 days but he finally has found a new home with the Flyers. It's a two-way deal so he may find himself in Lehigh Valley at some point. Suffice it to say, there were not many suitors for his services if this is the best contract he could get.

Guess? It was written in the stars. Philly has desired cheap depth and they love signing assholes.

Honestly, the number of assholes on Montreal is a little low. Prust and Weise (kinda) are about it. Tinordi and Moen are tough, but not assholey enough.

I'm gonna miss that asshole, Ryan White.
