habs rule
I don't know if this should be in it's own topic but I figure it might generate some talk. If the admin want to put it someplace, go ahead. I for one think Yak should come to the Habs depending on what we have to give up, he and Chucky had great chemistry before. I think MB has got to be looking at this. Maybe Edmonton goes for it if we retain 1M and add a significant prospect. Teams hate to give up on a first overall pick

Then you have to fire Le Genius cause he would have a nervous breakdown.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Emelin for Yakupov is a no-brainer for us, and just for that reason I doubt it'd fly from the Oilers' point of view. But yeah, I agree, we need forward talent. Can't afford to be too choosy. The kid is young and has sky-high pedigree, worth a shot.
Lovett's Magnatones
Not in the least bit. Actually? No. No. No. No no no. He has no idea how to play without the puck. His career high is seventeen goals, and that was the year after he was drafted. Character/attitude/entitlement issues. I would rather pay more for Drouin given the choice. When I saw him play a couple times down here, he was invisible at best, and he spent most of his time cherry picking at the defensive blueline waiting for outlet passes. The only noteworthy thing Yak has a chance of is being the biggest bust in NHL history.

hab29RETIRED
Wasn't his career high in the lockout year? Since than how many coaches has he had? If we don't fire MT, no to Yak - in which case we have bigger issues to deal with. Otherwise, hell yeah. The guy should already have chemistry with Galchenyuk. Not in the least bit. Actually? sbhatt
If interest in him around the league is poorer than Edmonton thinks, I'd roll the dice on him for a lowball offer. He just might have great chemistry with Galchenyuk that translates to the NHL level. Worth a shot since we need TWO scoring wingers for our top 6, and the only way to realistically make that happen would be to find one diamond in the rough and sign one as a big-ticket item. Lovett's Magnatones
Maybe if the offer is a third and a prospect, but I don't give up a roster player for Yak. How is he any different from Semin and Kassian. What is he when you take away his draft position?

Lovett's Magnatones
I'm the first to admit that I'm biased. I really hate this kid. He calls playing outside of the top-6 "having his hands tied." He even said in a interview a few years ago he doesn't like to play defense or back check.

But the oilers might owe us after the kassian deal. I dont think emelin plus b-level prospect or third rounder is outrageous
habs rule
Younger, better pedigree, no drug issues, chemistry with Galchenyuk, etc. and Edmonton has really screwed him over. He needs a fresh start in Montreal under a new coach not Le Genius who will want to turn him into a 4th liner.
Habs owned the 70's
His numbers are pretty bad. Points per game not much better than Eller and a whopping -88 in 4 seasons. I wouldn't give much for him but I don't think Emelin would do it because some GM would be willing to give more based on potential. If the guy can get 30 goals he might be worth it but he would always be seen as a defensive liability and that doesn't cut it anymore. I think there was talk of trading Eller for him at the deadline but it fell through.

Connor Mcdavid is +1 with 45 points for crying out loud. The top guy is a +8. Sounds like a team epidemic to me.

Would Chiarelli maybe have interest in Emelin from seeing him handle the big Bruins for a few years? If for Emelin and a prospect, or something like that, why not? When Martin wasn't playing him, he said he preferred to play in the minors in an offensive role. Since he's been up has been one of the top 5 scorers if you don't count this year. His numbers are pretty bad. Points per game not much better than Eller and a whopping -88 in 4 seasons. I think the oilers are going to be targeting Dmen much better than Emelin and even they won't be dumb enough to waste $4.1M on Emelin. DON
Emelin wont have a 'no trade' clause come free agency day. So could easily end up in Edmonton.

Guest Stogey24
Why would the chances of Emelin having Edmonton on his trade list be good. I'd say it's pretty unlikely he wants to go to the worst team in the game. Especially in a contract year.
