Detroit Fire of 2015: Habs @ Joe Louis Arena, 7:30 PM EST

Recommended Posts

In 1805, a great fire consumed the city of Detroit, burning it to ashes. The city rebuilt but it took decades.

A new fire burns 210 years later in 2015. It comes from Montreal and plans to swallow the city hole.

Or I'm being overdramatic because I'll be at this game and very, very drunk.

Each and every year someone predicts that yes, this will be the year that Detroit doesn't make the playoffs. Sometimes it feels like a worthy prediction. Every year we still see the Red Wings right in the playoffs. They haven't made noise since they last Won the Cup and lost in the finals to Pittsburgh but it doesn't change the remarkable depth on the team. Today, the Red Wings sit with 72 points in 52 games compared to the Habs division leading 76 points in 55 games. A win could put the Habs into a deeper lead for the division and push the Red Wings to be the challenge for anyone who misses out on the division win. A loss could mean the Red Wings inch closer to the division title.

Montreal Canadiens

Max Pacioretty - David Desharnais - Brendan Gallagher

Alex Galchenyuk - Tomas Plekanec - Lars Eller

Michael Bournival - Jacob De La Soul - Christian Thomas

Brandon Prust - Manny Malhotra - Dale Weise

Andrei Markov - P.K. Subban

Nathan Beaulieu - Tom Gilbert

Alexei Emelin - Mike Weaver

Carey Price

Dustin Tokarski

DEEEEEETROIT BAAAAAASKETBALLLLLL

Gustav Nyquist - Henrik Zetterberg - Justin Abdelkader

Tomas Tatar - Pavel Datsyuk - Darren Helm

Luke Glendening - Riley Sheahan - Stephen Weiss

Drew Miller - Joakim Anderson - Tomas Jurco

Niklas Kronwall - Jonathan Ericsson

Kyle Quincey - Danny DeKeyser

Brendan Smith - Alexey Marchenko

Jimmy Howard

Petr Mrazek

Habs hold the series lead 2-0. Red Wings have one of the most dangerous power plays in the league. Sportsnet and RDS should show the game in Canada, Fox Sports Detroit for America.

Gilbert and Weaver. ouch

Busy night for Carey?

Habs need to start scoring.

Back to having two smurfs on the first line. Are there enough games left for MT to go round the horn though every possible line combo one more time, and have them back to where they are now for round one?

Lars should at least be given a look up there

I feel better now that our boys will be facing an actual team with talent. We should do better than against the weak teams!

Let's hope this team can finally start to score some goals and make Carey's job a little easier!

not s chance....... Don from this site has played with Pacs almost as much as Eller.

Well if Eller is trade bait I'd be trying to increase his productivity as much as possible.

There are 81 periods left in the regular season so there's plenty of time for that to happen. I imagine after the trade deadline when the roster is more set that we'll see more stable units though.

One would think. I'll say this, if he finally gets time on the first line or powerplay.....we'll know somethings up.

Eller has seen some powerplay time the last few games for the most part. His recent PP TOI:

TOR: 2:26

EDM: 0:00 (Sekac was on the 2nd unit this game)

PHI: 0:55

BOS: 2:49

NJ: 0:59

It's not major ice time but it was with Plekanec and Galchenyuk and may have had a part in that line getting tried 5-on-5.

is the line up set? i was thinking that pateryn as a U of Michigan alumni as well as a hometown boy would get a shot on the right in Detroit... familiar territory, in front of family, why not? we have points in the bank! he actually might be a breath of fresh air... not to mention a good opportunity for some scouts to get a look.

it seems hometown hockey players burn us in MTL every other game, it would be nice to reverse the role for once

No lineup changes for the Habs today which means Sekac and Pateryn are scratched.

I don't get why Sekac is in Therrien's dog house. Basically none of the bottom 6 are producing. Its actually pissing me off.

He'll probably sit another game or so and then go back and another underachiever will sit. That way, everyone stays somewhat fresh.

Question for the board. Do the habs have a good system with the hamiton call ups or is it simply just nobody can score. I have come to expect nothing (but brief scouting reports from media and fans on call ups in Montreal). Don't even expect them to score. Might be why I felt slightly shocked when Thomas actually scored goal the other night. Checking the stats at a Dogs game one night, i see that the habs have called up 12 forwards from bulldogs over the last 3 seasons. They have played a combined 98 games (or so) for the Canadiens and scored a grand total of 5 goals between them. 12 forwrds 100 games 5 goals. That seem awfully low?? What ever happen to sprinkling new guy(s) through out the line up. Not just nailing them all on the 4th line and/or bench?

That is actually a kind of scary stat. It makes it look like there is nobody in Hamilton ready to come up, or are we simply putting square pegs in round holes and expecting good results. I think Le Genius expects you to prove to him you can play defence before he is going to put in an offensive position. It may work long term I don't know.

Habs top picks which have been few in recent years, Tinordi, Beaulieu, Leblanc, AG, couple others.

Galchenyuk is a Hab, Beaulieu is a Hab, but Scherbak and McCarron are also long ways from NHL ready. Tinordi may not pan out (and I didn't like trading up to get to begin with)

And all the rest were low % to make NHL anyways.

So shouldn't be big shock or surprise. When trading away a 1st for Tanguay or a 2nd for Dominic Moore crap, comes back to bite you several years later.

Not only Montreal demands some defensive effort by rookies and are the Oilers at other end of spectrum (dumb end)

There will always be Matt D'Agostini to counter that stat. ;)

I would rather have sat Gilbert and given Pateryn a chance. If MT wants to send a message, should send it to that bum Gilbert. I'd also rather play Sekac over Malhotra.
