nhfarber
Unless Bob Mackenzie just got hacked on twitter it looks like we`ve just send Erik Cole to the Stars for Michael Ryder. shocked.... here's the link: https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/status/306541777597382658 Having a hard time understanding this... I guess Therrien liked Ryder last time he was here...
TurdBurglar
I just saw it on TSN. Wow.
HabsTrick450
Don't know what to think of this!
dlbalr
6 goals and 8 assists for Ryder this season, hopefully he can be more of a consistent threat than Cole. Also, it clears a fairly big contract off the books as Ryder is a UFA this summer.
TurdBurglar
This is a cap move. Cole has 2 more years @ $4.5m Ryder is on the final year @ 3.5m I'm thinking this is a precursor to something bigger. Freeing up cap space this year and eliminating $4.5m from next year. nhfarber
The cap savings is obviously a big factor here, as is Therrien familiarity with Ryder. Will be interesting to see how the lines may change after this deal.

sim.on
Totally shocked when I saw this.Hopefully it leads to corey perry down the line.Getzlaf is good too, but we re looking pretty set at center for the future with DD, pleck, eller and galchenyuck
dlbalr
Apparently we're getting a 3rd rounder as well...not confirmed yet though.

IN THE HEARTS OF MEN
cant wait to watch the next 24ch weekly..... interesting to see how this childhood hab fan from new foundland(i think) takes to his 2nd stint with les glourieux! ryder back after a memorable stint with our most beloved enemy.... Boston. he even swept us in the playoffs as he was probably there best forward in that series.
nhfarber
I thought Ryder played under Therrien last time he was here, apparently not. Either way, the more I think about this deal, the more I like it, especially getting a draft pick thrown in as well. Well done MB !

dlbalr
I jumped the gun earlier, this isn't official just yet, the trade call has yet to be made. That's why there's no press release from either team yet.
dlbalr
Now it's official, as well as the pick which is in 2013: http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=657613
TurdBurglar
With the Gomez buyout, probable Kaberle buyout and expiration of Ryder's contract will set us up for $16m drop from the beginning of the season to the beginning of next season. We'll have about $16m in cap space at the end of the season, with only like 4-5 player to really resign. I think this is seriously setting up for Getzlaf/Perry or even the out of the picture O'Reilly. If none of those names, I expect something big. brobin
Wow... I do suspect we got the best year out of Cole.
brobin
I must say, Bergevin is an impressive GM. I cant believe Dallas made that deal.

Machine of Loving Grace
I'm suddenly convinced Corey Perry is coming to Montreal.
TheDriveFor25
I don't like it.. I think Cole has more playoff potential... Meaning, if the Habs were going to go far we would need Cole at his best.. Not sure Ryder is the guy. Unless this is a precursor to something else, it hurts the short term but helps the long term. Machine of Loving Grace
Gut reaction: Montreal wanted Eller in the top nine and to open up theidea of Corey "I loved the Habs as a kid" Perry in the summer.Brain reaction: Erik Cole was unsure if he wanted to keep his kids inthe Montreal school system and raise them bilingual. There was alsothat retirement talk. If he was doing better than six points thiswouldn't have happened. It's easy to forget that Cole and Ryder scoredthe same amount of goals last season. Ryder is right now tied for our scoring lead.Nerve reaction: Michael Ryder coming back is so weird but he's playingpretty well. If Bourque's concussion is serious there's withoutquestion room for him. The best part about Ryder is he's a powerplayspecialist and holy do we need that PP going.Right now I like the trade. Talk to me in an hour.

BlueKross
I like Cole, but don't sell Ryder short. Ryder is a closer which should give our power play some options. What is impressive is the options MB will have next year. One of those options would be to reup Ryder if he makes good. There is also a third round pick coming our way, which of Dallas's three thirds the pick is,I don't know.
